    Chris, thanks alot for explaining this task. My 15 year old son and I just dropped our 60 bug body back on to our restored pan. Everything worked out fine. We did this in our garage and used everything you said we needed. Took us about three hours but that was just because we went very slow. Thanks again!!!!

    Chris, thanks for taking the time to explain in detail this process. Working on a 69 right now and with the pans being replaced, wasn't sure about the gaskets. Great "how to" video.

    See what I'm talking about with the detail Chris goes too? Who uses the original factory nails when putting down the body seals!? Chris is da' man!!! He details stuff you don't even SEE! Somebody stop 'em!! He's perfectionist numero uno!

    I use a straight edge razor blade to do any trimming or cutting. The hole punch you can also get them at Harbor freight.

    This is awesome! Thanks for the tip! I just bought a 66' today and ned to redo the right pan, so I figured since I'm doing one side, I may as well do both. I haven't built a bug since high school (12 years ago) and even then I just did mostly cosmetic stuff. Most of what I have leaned as far as heavy work was from youtube videos including this one!

    When punching the holes use the end grain of the timber to punch against.

    Not really, depends where you get the floors from. Wolfsburgwest or Gerson or Jcwhitney.

    Chris, I've got a project I'm working on myself and the next step is securing the body to the pan(after cleaning the dust off of everything.) I'm seeing that I need these body shock pads/body mount pads, and I'm not sure how many I need.. I'm seeing 10mm/17mm, some people are saying to use 2x 10mm.. So this is resulting in conflicting information. Any help would be of great assistance. How many would you recommend for each the front and back and what width? Oh! And if it makes a difference on anything, it's a 72' Standard.
    Great video! Thanks helps a lot for a first time builder!

      you need the real thick ones for the front beam, the rest of the car is standard. you can get them from wolfsburgwest.com or cip1.com. 8 total.

    Hey Chis - I want to put my body back on the chassis temporarily. Don't really want to put metal on metal, but need to move the body and chassis together to another work space and they have to be mated in order to do so. I thought if I put the gasket on it would get smashed and not be useful again when I actually bolt the body back on. Thanks

      zensurfer55 we do that all the time when we transfer the shell to our body shop, we just bolt it down by the rear shock tower and the front by the gas tank, its no biggie, you will not damage anything.

    If the belly pan in rusted through, where do i find new ones? Or at least decent looking ones? Is it possible to remanufacture it with sheet metal?

    What do you do to insider the tunnel to prevent it from rust. Also how do you clear it out and restore it if there is rust? Great tips by the way. Thank you 😆

    • @classicvwbugs
      @classicvwbugs  6 лет назад +1

      Well we try and vacuum the best we can first of all with a long narrow hose, and try to get as much as we can out of there. Then you can try and spray some rust preventative paint in the tunnel, but it will be hard to get every nook and cranny.

    You said you had replaced the floor pans, did you have a problem with the floor pan holes not lining up with the body holes since it was an after market floor? Please respond.

    I have a 59 pan verified the date on samba and a body of unknown year. How do I determine the year of the body if the front section with the stamping and the plate is gone.

    • @classicvwbugs
      @classicvwbugs  2 года назад +2

      Tough to tell at that point.

    • @matthewsteffen6355
      @matthewsteffen6355 2 года назад

      You would think they would stamp the body in more than one place or that there would be some sort of interior or exterior difference between a 59 and a 66 for example.

      nothing Chris,, I bought the car years ago and moved to Colorado to become a snowboard instructor. It sits on a 1968 pan right now., 5 lug. I recently contacted my friend that I bought it from and he mentioned he had an issue bolting it to this 68 pan. I thank you for replying and ANY info would be appreciated. I remember that a 67 has longer axles if I want to lower it it wont affect how it sits. I have obtained many new parts for it over the years.
