  • Only the Sims 3 would make a dragon themed fantasy world, let's see how EA executed this concept... Medieval meets suburban, still more creative than anything Sims 4 ever did.

    After looking at Dragon Valley's builds, I realised that maybe The Sims 3 obsession with ugly green decoration might be based on Victorian Era. There's a booming of green toxic wallpaper back then than ever before. So, in The Sims 3 which supposed setting on 50 years before the event of The Sims 2, were the old money still around with their manor.

    • @Rekowcski
      @Rekowcski  Год назад +17

      I figured 25 years before the sims 1 (2000) would be mid 70s which could explain the combination of greens AND yellows haha... midnight hollow is all Vic style and i was shocked at the lack of green, I usually include one arsenic wallpaper room haha

    • @moch.farisdzulfiqar6123

      @@Rekowcski yup, arsenic is a must, you can't have a picture with dead people if everyone is healthy, am I right? Joke aside, I find it weird that they're leave the green out of Midnight Hollow, I guess they're more into hot topic Gothic and steam punk style than historical Victorian.
      Btw, I noticed something about the lack of windows in Dragon Valley, maybe it's because of medieval window tax policy, then come a new era and people begin to put more window excessively some sides of their home. I guess this is too clever for EA, but it's a fun thought.

    • @CarlDillynson
      @CarlDillynson Год назад +4

      @@Rekowcski this specific world is set around 10 years before Sims 2 (2004) as it contains Jennifer Pleasant and John Burb right before they get married and have Lucy (and subsequently move to Pleasantview). Sunset Valley is set 50 years before Pleasantview from The Sims 2. I think the only store world that doesn’t contain any sims from previous games may be Hidden Springs, so its timeline could be before or after Sims 2 - but I may be mistaken. Twinbrook is set around 75 years before Sims 2 and Barnacle Bay is set around five years after Sims 2.

      Sometimes I honestly think they make the houses look bad on purpose so we have to modify it to our taste instead of being too worried about ruinging or changing the original house.
      Almost like how we don't want to modify cool cars but it's okay to mod non-exotics.

    Haven't played this world in a good long while, but I think I remember the community lots were more interesting than the homes, particularly the RenFaire lot, if you got the deluxe or gold or whatever edition. I remember wishing that cars and cell phones were optional - it would have been fun to have a medieval type world. Sims Medieval was cute but it wasn't what I wanted. lol

      @@Rekowcski yea, you could do a whole new series just on the community lots. I tend to copy lots from one world and plop them in another, maybe do some minor tweaking. EA builds tend to have either none or very few routing issues (plenty of space around interactive objects), compared to the beautiful but impractical user made lots. Plus no issues with bad cc etc. I still need a better library for Lucky Palms. The LP one is too clunky and time consuming for the townie sims to make their way to where my sim is.

    Dragon Valley is one of my favorite towns. I love its medieval fantasy aesthetic and all the new items that come with it. I play exclusively with Supernatural Sims, although I use "Custom" supernaturals aka download a ton of CC to make demon sims because we need our angel and demons. So they fit right in.
    Also Gay Irish Elves is a phrase I never thought I would see but I'm glad I did.

    I am super into fantasy and this world is right up my alley. That being said, i think this Dragon valley suffers from the fact that The Sims 3 just doesn't have the most powerful building tools not does it have the amount of objects necessary to actually go 100% for the concept. If you take Windenburg from TS4 (or almost any Sims 4 world for that matter), it does a far better job at capturing the aesthetic than The Sims 3 ever did.

    The first thing i wanted to know going into this video were if there was gonna be any references or Easter eggs related to Dragon Age, in this world. Cuz I’m such a big nerd and also because it’s another EA owned franchise.
    And since the sims team (at least the current day team) seem to be big fans of Mass Effect, a si-fi rpg franchise by the same developers behind Dragon Age. I had hope to see some references.
    It’s cute when other studios under the same publisher are fans of each others work and flaunts it. Couldn’t tell if there were any such moments in this world. So a little let down by that. But thank you for another awesome video!

    I feel like many of these houses were too contemporary. Like they tried to make medieval - Scottish - Irish - houses, but in some of them, typical american suburbs element break upon the surface and make it obvious, especially when it comes to floor plan and shape of a building. So it's a little bit of creative, but it still refers to same stuff as in most worlds.

    13:54 My first thought was "why is the kitchen island pointed that way? The cabinets are pointing away from the cooking area and the overhang for sitting is one tile from the stove." I love your reviews, man. You're a little more knowledgeable about why, but we have similar decorating tastes.
    Hey have you ever played a one-Sim family in Sims 3 where you simply do not get a legitimate income? Let's call it, I dunno, the "thief challenge"? I find it's a great change-of-pace way to enjoy the game dynamics.
    So, you do not get a job (even Criminal) or paint or write, etc. You can only hack the computer for money and take stuff. I guess it's ok to find gold and gems to smelt/cut and sell (or hoard) but it's not really necessary except for the character aspect - you can actually get quite rich with just the first two.
    Your Sim has to have Computer Whiz to hack and Klepto to steal. Wise to choose Handy so they can quickly fix the computer to keep hacking. Mooch might be fun too, but lots of fun options. I've found Swimming In Cash or Possession is 9/10 are good LTWs to use. Since the Sim will be a day sleeper, as you can't steal till 7 and you can't hack till 9, I've never had much luck trying to get a partner and make a baby to maybe inherit the business. But maybe others might try that. I'd say no one in the household should get a job (that's how the man gets you), but I'd think some non-thief family members might grow and sell vegetables or something like that.
