I'm related to this man! My grandma's family had a mystery for decades after a brother of her grandfather disappeared from Canada. As my aunt was doing some genealogy research, she started reaching out to people with my grandmother's maiden name, and got into contact with a woman in Australia. Turns out, their family had the exact opposite problem! they didn't know where their ancestor had come from before he was in Australia. After confirming some details, they finally put that branch back on our family tree.
