    Not many guys could get away with a shirtless video (i know i couldnt), but you do it well. Does hammock have much calf ridge? Thanks!

      Nathanael Kolb Thank you very much! There probably is some calf ridge but nothing too serious - it has never bothered me.

    That's quite good! If you play around with the design in sure you could even do a bridge hammock, but no need.
    Next do an underquilt, they're quite easy if you use a premade sleeping bag or blanket.
    A tarp will be rather easy as well, just add grommets, guy lines and ground pegs.

    I have watched a lot of videos on these and this is by far the best!
    No-nonsense (or talking), you show every step clearly and this is by far the best hammock design I have seen! It packs down so small and is so simple.
    Thanks for this video!
    Definitely trying this one.

    Lovethe way you sewed that up-exactly how i do mine,on the deck.
    My last one is 4m long and 2.9m wide.
    I split the second length and frenc seamed it to the main body.(a bit like the eno g/e hammocks.
    Its a real monster size and weight wise but boy is it comfortable.
    Im guessing yous is a real comfy lay too.
    Nothing more satisfying than a job well done and at a fraction of the cost of a store bought setup
    Well done

    Just a hint---you dont need to sew the side edges.
    Running your suspension loops through the loop in the ends is placing your life at risk-purely at the mercy of the stitching.
    Instead. Use string and buch up the ends tight.connect a dyneema continious loop around the knot and gaurenteed 100% no fail.
    Also for bedt comfort length should be twice your height.
    Good effort for budget start.
    For more ideas go to hammock forums.

      You really do not need to sew the edges? Wount the fabric tear? Thanks for the suspension hint, I will try it on my next hammock ;)

      @@CraftAndu i have a nylon tafeta 200grams m squared and it is unsewn-2 1/2 years already.used every day in summer..
      Synthetics come with a selvage edge from the mill so it wont tear or unravel.
      A cut edge will but not a side.
      Same as rip stop.
      There are a few really great US hammock suppliers for the diy types.
      Dutchware is one of the best.
      They have high tech fabrics you would have trouble getting anywhere else and you only need to buy what you need for the job.

    Great looking hammock, please can you tell me what weight nylon fabric did you use? Thank you

    • @CraftAndu

      Hi! For this hammock I actually used polyester taffeta and I think it was around 90g/sqm. On my new hammock I am using 66g/sqm Ripstop-Nylon. You can find it here : www.extremtextil.de/en/ripstop-nylon-hammock-nylon-70den-66g-sqm-impregnated.html?number=71629.SW

    Do you think a tarp could possibly work

    • @CraftAndu
      @CraftAndu  5 лет назад

      No, not really. I think it is to weak and will break just after few uses :/

    • @pedroclaro7822
      @pedroclaro7822 2 года назад

      I disagree. Heard of a scout who made his own hammock from a tarp, and slept fine in it wit just a wool blanket. Just gotta be aware that tarp is waterproof, and it will not wick away moisture or condensation, but it is windproof too.

    Hey man
    I was wondering 3.38 m is quite a lot cuz I want to make one of these for myself and I'm only 1.7m.....

    • @CraftAndu
      @CraftAndu  7 лет назад +2

      meTRYHARD Hey! Yes you need to make it that long if you want to use it for sleeping. Shorter hammocks are usually used just for just chilling.

    There is no need to go to all this trouble. It takes less than 10 minutes to make a good hammock. Take 4 meters of material and tie a 2 metre length of rope to each end using a sheet bend. Job done.
