I've used sankaku from the rear/back position for ages. The version I apply, works better if uke is on his belly. Some of these techniques, that are applied when uke is in turtle, will be hard to pull through once he goes flat on his stomach, and this is what most experienced opponents will do as a reflex: The second you start to mess with them from their hind side, they'll drop to their stomach. So be aware, and have a 'fall back' to the 'apply on turtle' -versions 🙂
