Very useful video...just bought a nanoVNA, you got me onto the right track!
Great video, thanks very much!
Thanks so much for this, I've just bought one of these units and wanted to find out how to use it for a basic SWR quickly... and you provided the information I needed! 73s G6XIB
Yes, keep going with this tutorial. I find the instructions I have downloaded are not much help and there are so many options and upgrades on the .io channel that it is getting confusing. I don’t want to spend my life learning about this simple device but want to learn some of the simple uses for it in the average ham shack. ie. SWR, antenna adjustment or tuning and filter testing.
Thank you.

Excellent video, covers exactly what's needed. Thanks - Mike - G4UPD
You're welcome!
Thanks I bought one of these because of price.
Thanks for video was trying to find out how to narrow the frequency test range
wow thanks very easy to understand how to use it for swr keep doing videos focusing in amateur use
Thanks for the kind words Ruben!
Thanks!
Welcome!
How come you have a SWR of 1.92 on an open circuit? time 3:10. I also think you need to do a reset before the cal.
Would be nice to see the antenna under test. Which connector is the "open". Would be nice to see that, but it's off camera. What's the io group? Might you provide a link? Also, wouldn't calibration be the best place to start in this vid? Just wondering... Finally, what about Mac o.s. users? Out of luck?
Can you check the gain of the antenna ?
Is there a way I might contact you directly? N2KTO good on QRZ. Thanks for great content!
Just thought that I would add info you mentioned in the first video for those who did not watch your first video:
Open: is the GOLD connector with NO pin in the center
Short is the GOLD connector WITH pin in the center
50 ohm is the SILVER connector
Thanks SOOOO much for the follow up video!!!
Would love to see a video about the PC Software for the PC or Linux
Right, these are off camera so one has to do some deducing.
Great I was wondering which one was what! Thanks
Do you find the unit goes out of calibration if it is nor properly charged. I believe mine was off frequency when compared to a know good Antenna Analyser.
I do know that it is recommended to calibrate the unit each time you use it. I've had it stay pretty close between uses but it does not seem to be gauranteed to do so.
Is it ok to use the extension cable supplied with the Nano Vna? I cringe when hooking a stiff larger cable into those tiny SMA connectors.
You do always want to be careful and gently when working with SMA connectors. You can always get a more flexible cable to use if desired.
@@LCARAHAMRadio Do you calibrate to measure a little outside of the bands? To see for instance If an antenna is capable of working outside of its designed band?
Calibration RESET button is redundant?
How would you calibrate it if you are using a sma male to so-239 female adapter?
You could always make up some test standards to match whatever connector type you have.
Very useful for me...

How do you do a reboot? To bring the unit back to factory defaults? I notice that on my unit after turning the unit off (not being charged) ca blue LED stays on and eventually drains the battery? Thank you
I just turn off the unit and then apply the same "3-finger" press until it beeps at me when I power it back on. That puts it back to standard operation. Can't speak to the blue light or drawing current while off. Thanks for the comment!
What do you mean about “e finger press?” I don’t understand? Thank you
9:50 "I'm not going to do an isolation" I cam to this video to learn what the ISOLN calibration was and how to do it.
Can anyone explain or direct me (and others) to information on the ISOLN calibration?
I found at this link: hexandflex.com/2019/08/31/getting-started-with-the-nanovna-part-1/
The following: "Isolation - Connect the Load to the S21(CH1) port and press ISOLN."
It is not clear to me if the S11 port is still terminated or open or if it matters.
Is there Mac compatible software? Need to be able to save screenshots to my Mac.
I'm not sure there is, I don't happen to have a Mac so don't tend to track what's available on that platform. Sorry.
I want to test my RG 8. How can I get that tested?
Hey Don, you can use several things to test cable. There are videos showing using the MFJ-259/269 to test for shorts.
Thank You. But I don't have one. I do have a NanoVNA. They only cost about $50. But it should be able to test the RG8
Something wrong with your cal. SWR of an open should be very high..
Isn't an "open" the same as no sma fitting at all since the sma connector has nothing in it? (sorta like calling a jumper a zero ohm resistor)
You said just prior to 7 minutes 50 to 899 nhz. Did you mean 50KHZ to 900MHZ?
Yes, indeed.
