Full explanation for the harmonics probably too long for RUclips comments. The short answer is that harmonics are about fractions of your scale length and that they only care about the distance to the nearest "anchor" point, either the nut or the bridge. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th frets are roughly 1/6, 1/5, and 1/4 of your scale length away from the nut. Fractions with larger denominators correspond to higher notes. You can find the exact same harmonics the same distances away from the bridge.
I just love the way you teach, so easy to understand, I would LOVE, if you could do like an acoustic lesson for Only Happy When It Rains By Garbage, I would be forever grateful
This song was the first one I learned back in the nineties where i actually managed to produce harmonics. It was incredibly satisfying. I was so into the pumpkins it hurt. Good times!
I wish when I was young i had youtube and a teacher like you. You're are if not the best one of these best guitar RUclipsrs out. Mad props to you. I remember being 14 and I found a neighbor's tab book and learned to play the cords for Free bird and the white room by Clapton. I would love to see you teach On the Hunt by skynerd!
first time seeing your content, you’re a great teacher and everything is easy to follow and very descriptive! thank u for helping me learn a great song, earned a sub!
Thanks for the cool lessons, you cover some awsome songs i cant find anywhere else. Any chance of some of the heavier stuff from mellon collie like XYU, bodies, and where boys fear to tread? thanks again
How does one become a Harmonics master? Is it just like somewhat muting the string your hitting? like for 3-4-5 part at the beginning after the strum slide strum part
Ryan, any chance of you doing a tutorial for STP - 7 Caged Tigers? 🙏 Real interesting chords and always with STP, a lot more going on in this song than first meets the 'earballs' 😊
Say (I'm sorry this is unrelated to the video but I thought about it earlier), what are the chances of you wanting to figure out a version of 'Spoonman' for the ukuele? I'm not even sure it's possible but if I trust anyone to make it possible, it's you ;)
@@RyanLendt And here I thought I had a chance, since I never thought I'd see a uke tutorial for "Spin the Black Circle" either. Ah well, maybe you'll have an epiphany some day :)
dont need a mathematician or physicist to explain that harmonics are a patter of halves. the first harmonic divides the string exactly in half at the 12th fret, then the next would be the half of the half, and keeps going like that. so the harmonics above and below the 12th fret at the same intervals are the same.
harmonics get lower the higher you go because the vibrating length gets longer, and therefore lower in pitch, when fretting proper the vibrating length gets shorter and therefore higher in pitch. You're welcome.
When fretting the vibrating length is only beyond the fingered fret, with harmonics, it is the whole length of the string but divided at nodes which and where the touched harmonic determines, ie, the whole string but divided in fractions thereof. I wish I could post pictures because I'm sure most of you probably still aren't clear on it. Best example is 12 fret harmonic which actually matches the fretted note, when fretted, only the part of string beyond the fret vibrates which is half the length, but with a harmonic the whole string vibrates, but separately in two halves, hence the same pitch but different quality.
I know this is 4 months old but dude. To grow you gotta step outside your comfort zone. You'd be surprised how many easy songs there are in alternative tunings. I play in drop D, open D, standard, Drop C all of which have specific and unique things you can do with them.
@@mstr_door404 hey !! ykw, after this comment i did actually end up learning how to retune my guitar!! i ended up learning this song (which is my fav song of all time

Hey Ryan........think you could tackle "through the eyes of ruby" my favorite pumpkins song??

Is the actual solo a combo of harmonics and gizmo noises or is it something else, if so how do you play the solo

New to learning guitar do I need that thing to make the chords sound like that or can I do it on my amp
Dear King of Grunge tutorials, please do Isolate by Bender someday 🥺 (preferably on an acoustic)
thanks for the idea Rab :)
Great tutorial! however, Billy technically plays an open E string on the first 'a' and then goes into the harmonics on frets 3,4, and 5.
Pat squad played in the key of A
only cause there's no key of P. You can, however, pee on a key.
@@RyanLendt dude lol… I really appreciate the lessons man. I lived in Philly a long time . I worked at Medley music in Bryn Mawr way back

Thanks Ryan. This one escaped me for years. I thought it was a lot harder than it is. Sign of a good teacher I suppose ❤️

Omg, how to learn to make those harmonics (( oh that right hand(
go slow AA
