    "that for me is the meat of this mayonaise, the tuning is bananas foster, but the voicings he achieves with this tuning is nothing short of Miracle Whip." - pure genius. I don't know how you delivered that with a straight face. Thank you for putting this out there, such an awesome song. Great breakdown and even better humor to go along with it.

    I remember this was one of the earliest alt tuning songs I learned from a guitar magazine (pre Internet tabs) in the 90s. It was a messed up tuning I remember but have since lost the magazine. Thank you for resurfacing this wonderful song!

    • @RyanLendt
      @RyanLendt  4 года назад +2

      remember when we used to have to buy a whole magazine just for the questionable tab of one song??

    • @carlom.3737
      @carlom.3737 4 года назад +2

      @@RyanLendt the pain was real. I will say to my recollection that tab did nail both the alt tuning (which matches the one in your video) and it was one of the few when I played along with the CD it was pretty spot on (minus the feedback which I couldn’t really do on my cheap humbucker guitar at the time). So props to whoever did that original tab in the 90s!

      @@glennbastarache2310 since this is my favorite Smashing Pumpkins song and I am just a mediocre or average player I found a way to play this song in standard tuning. The majority of the song is Aadd9 or sus9, F#m, D, D. There is only a variation at the beginning when he sings "we'll try to ease the pain, somehow we'll feel the same ... no one knows, where those secrets go." There I play Bm, G, D twice and then Em, G, Em, F#m, G. Check my video: ruclips.net/video/PgbQ39hiDiU/видео.html
      It might not be the exact note by note reproduction of the song, but for a campfire version it will work.

    Fun fact - I read an interview in a magazine a long time ago that billy got the "noisy noise" from a shitty old guitar that he bought in a pawn shop. Every time he'd stop playing any notes it would feedback horribly, and they decided to incorporate that feedback into a recording. Not a surprise that they were unable to recreate it live.

    At 7:02 i am having some really clarity and consistency issues. I know what needs to happen and how to make it happen but the really time result doesn’t sound the same on my end. Do I play more of the D string and give it more bend? Thank you!

    Love the videos ryan! Is there any chance that you still by foo fighters next? I’ve been trying to learn it but there is no good tutorial for it. Thanks a lot! Keep it up

    Each guitar has a different tuning on this song which confuses me. Billy’s guitar is tuned only half-step down while James’s is tuned to some weird combination.

    Campfire version? I play this on my acoustic capo 1 in A. I’d be curious how you pull it off. It’s close but not exact but when you’re strumming it all blends together. “)

      right - the chords are fairly straightforward, but I'm curious to sit down and see if I can get it any closer as well

    So many questions. Did I miss a patreon post for voting? Isn't egg salad also chicken salad? Why aren't you a professional logger? Why no Ernie?

      you gotta dig deep into your pockets and spring for the new $2 level to be in on the vote - you missed the message about that for sure. I believe it's pre-chicken salad. My chainsaw skills are really starting to bloom, but holy crap are my shoulders sore. That's my childhood bert retrieved from my dad's house. I don't know if I ever owned ernie.
