I remember this was one of the earliest alt tuning songs I learned from a guitar magazine (pre Internet tabs) in the 90s. It was a messed up tuning I remember but have since lost the magazine. Thank you for resurfacing this wonderful song!

I will say to my recollection that tab did nail both the alt tuning (which matches the one in your video) and it was one of the few when I played along with the CD it was pretty spot on (minus the feedback which I couldn’t really do on my cheap humbucker guitar at the time). There I play Bm, G, D twice and then Em, G, Em, F#m, G. Ryan, I tried learning this by ear many ages ago while playing & pausing the CD and in standard tuning I couldn't figure out some of these chords! You just blew my mind with the correct tuning!!!!! We just got a horse and my kids named it Mayo. Mayo neighs. I also recently switched from using mayonnaise to using butter for making grilled cheese sandwiches. When I make a tuna fish sandwich , I use tuna fish and anti fish (anti-fish being mayonnaise).. your super secret code has been cracked. Also, I think I agree that chord is the best chord I've ever heard. Probably worth the effort of the whacked tuning just to hear it.

I"ve been playing this song incorrectly for years... doing it in standard tuning required a capo for part of the song and the rest never sounded right due to lack of open voicings. Thanks for the tutorial. Fun fact - I read an interview in a magazine a long time ago that billy got the "noisy noise" from a shitty old guitar that he bought in a pawn shop. Every time he'd stop playing any notes it would feedback horribly, and they decided to incorporate that feedback into a recording. Not a surprise that they were unable to recreate it live.

Each guitar has a different tuning on this song which confuses me. Billy’s guitar is tuned only half-step down while James’s is tuned to some weird combination.
