The car isn't uncomfortable, the roads are just not up to the quality a ZT demands of them😊

Frankly, I don't think the roads are up to the quality any car demands. Absolutely appealing for the majority of the UK.

If you look at the history of the MG marque most of their cars weren't made for out and out speed, particularly the badge engineered BMC ones like the MG 1300 version of the Austin/Morris 1300 and the MG Magnette version of the Farina Oxford/Canbridge saloons. They were just a slightly sportier version of the standard saloon and the ZT follows this tradition being a badge engineered slightly sportier 75 saloon. The kind of car Leslie Phillips would drive to impress the ladies, come to think of it i reckon Boaty is Leslie Phillips or even Terry Thomas' love child 😊

I'm torn. I loved my 75 (pre-project Drive) because it was everything a Rover should be. I also thought the ZT's looked really sporty. MG Rover really did know how to dress a car up, they made old designs look really relevant back in the day.

Boaty has a way with words. The philosopher of the tittybiscuit lifestyle . Boaty for Prime Minister.

I like them both, but they deliver a very different experience. I actually find the ZT more comfortable than the 75 and of course it’s a sharper drive. My main gripe with the ZT is its lack of pace - something that doesn’t bother me in the 75 which is made for wafting, but handles surprisingly well. My manual tourer is a nice comprise between the two.

Great vid! My mother has 75 2.0 KV6 and I have ZT190 so I'm driving both cars from time to time and... I can agree with everything - 75 is so classy... but not because leather seats etc. but because it goes classy. Fantastic and growly sound, soft suspension, runs very well even on 5th gear and 30mph ;) You just don't want to go fast with this car - it's calm, peaceful, runs very smooth and growls beautiful. ZT190 is so hard and stiff that you've got to have perfect roads for it. I'm from Poland, a country with often very bad roads and driving ZT here, can be a real nightmare... When the road is in great condtion however, the car just flies, that's the truth, but unfortunately we have more bad than good roads... The other thing is the power. 190 sounds pretty good but you can feel immediately, that KV6 is not a sporting engine at all. The engine lacks torque, needs to be pushed hard and is soooo thirsty, like... DAMN! IT IS THIRSTY. The bad thing is - the amount, the delivery and the feeling of its power, doesn't justify that thirstiness. It drinks almost as much as the V8 engines but doesn't give you that fun and power as the V8 engine. It's a strange car. Looks sporty but has only "ok" performance. Drinks like a sports car but gives you little excitement. Yes, it can go fast if you will push it like crazy causing lots of roar on the street but still - it's only "fast". Don't get me wrong, I love my ZT and I'm proud of it but I also have E46 320d 150bhp and to tell you the truth, it drinks only half of what ZT drinks, has a lot more torque (330 vs 245), has a softer suspension and creates a big "wow" when driving with my friends and I put the foot flat to the floor. Yes, I know it's a turbo and not NA engine but still... ZT is a good car but.. strange and it's really hard to recommend it for anybody. First car? Nope - too big, too thirsty and too costly to repair. Sports car? Nope - the performance is laughable. Fun car? Maybe, but no when it drinks that much, so overall... The even weirder thing is - I see all of its flaws and I still love it :) Heart tells you - go for it, logic - stay away :) That's the ZT190 ;) Cheers.

I've owned 6 Rover 75 from the Diesel engine to the V6 2.5 they have all been money pits but I just love them. Iam thinking of another but will most probably go back to a Rover 75 1.8 turbo. But do I want the hassle again. I now drive a really nice BMW 5 series e61 3.0 turbo again another car without its problems.

Ive said it before and ill say it again, Boaty could sell sand to the Arabs, looked like he even had Mustard doubting his own conclusion. Ive seen more rear legroom in a fiat uno.

I recently sold my mg zr. Because I didn’t enjoy driving it the ride was so hard . I’ve gone down to a1997 rover 114SLI. And believe it or not all it had for rust was two small surface scabs on the rear wheel arch, allways on a spot weld as well other than that it looks like a 3 month old car inside and underneath are all still silver with no surface rust. I love the little car. It’s so much fun to drive

If the 75 had looked like the mg, they might have shifted a few more units. The problem with the 75 was that it appealed mostly to pensioners.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the ZT/ZS. But I’ll never understand how they managed to get less than 200hp out of a 2.5 V6. My 2L Saab makes over 200hp (with a turbo). I do think the KV6 sounds amazing though.

Boaty is like the Primark version of Clarkson.
Jezza would turn up in a similar aged BMW M3, mean moody and ready for business. Boaty would still try to convince him a ZT 190 with a cracked screen is a better all-round car.
I cannot easily afford an M3 , and I'm more likely to meet Boaty , so using his titty biscuits theorem, then an MG ZT-190 driven by him is a great combination.
    I've confused myself now 🤣🤣

Like comparing a R8 200 against a 400. Feel distinctly different on the road although basically the same. Never liked V6 engines. Always seem to be lacking in torque despite drinking all of the petrol.

75/ZT sums up Rover for me, gorgeous, absolutely vowed to myself I'd get one when I was older & able to afford one. Finally had the opportunity & it's all a bit of a let down.

I'm sure the MG is nice to drive although a bit firm. I think of the two I'd prefer the soft leather comfort of the Rover model as well! Rover 75 or MG saloon is roomy enough if you are in the front. In the back it appears to be a bit like a 'Tardis' in reverse, seeming bigger on the outside than on the inside. Quite an achievement of sorts. I always think the (proper) classic VW Beetle did that well too!
Do you think Boaty might be a couple of titty-biscuits shy of a full packet? 😁
