The South western railway not existing at that
time it was the headquarters of Southern Maratha Railway company with jurisdiction of entire South India. For some reasons (this is a matter to be yet to be ascertained.) the headquarters of Southern Maratha Railway Company was shifted to Madras and thr building fallen vacant. This was taken over for Karnataka College If the headquarters of then Southern Maratha Railway company was retained the Dharead could have become main hub of Railways.
