Good video Bradley, but here's a shirt list of things I would have found even more helpful...
-- I wished you had mentioned where you were fishing.
-- How you hooked the bread onto your hook and keep it from falling off if you get a hit, but don't hook a fish?
-- How do you manage to cast just a piece of bread without it falling off?
-- How far were you casting in your video?
-- Any reason you don't tie the hook directly to your line? Obviously what you're doing works. I'll look up how to tie a surgeons knot as you showed on your main line.
I'd be very happy to know the answers to these questions since I have a school of very large Tilapia I've gotten to feed from my chum bricks and other chum I put in a large bucket. Did you or anyone reading know that ALL fish GO CRAZY for dry cat food? Works wonders in attracting and holding every type of fish in whatever water you're fishing in that isn't a fast moving river. In the water here I have caught so far Mullet, Tilapia, Blue Catfish, Walking Catfish, and all three varieties of 'Bluegill' type fish. The downside...it also attracts aquatic birds such as Anhingas, snapping turtles, blue claw crabs, herons of every variety, and of course Muschovy ducks. Add to that all the fish activity also attracts gators and Osprey. It's always 'interesting' fishing here since I'll never precisely know what is in the water and hungry. Currently the bluegills are spawning for certain as well as the lizards, the Armored Catfish (aka sucker mouth plated catfish), and who knows what other critters are choosing to mate in the middle of August. Sorry for rambling a bit off exact topic .
Since you mentioned it...Typically Eagle Claw snelled #4 hooks are using 10lb clear mono. I have them myself and I just read the package for that bit of info.
Here's a trick I've found works very well IF you want to use a snap swivel for quick changes, but need to offset the weight without using a bobber that will scare the Tilapia away. I use plain Cheerios (about 6-10 depending on the weight of my line with swivel, plus how many tiny fish are around that attack those Cheerios like piranhas. Using his rig method...just grab some Cheerios and slide the line through the holes, then connect the leader line back to the swivel. Too bad Tilapia don't like Cheerios or anyone could (swivel or not) just use Cheerios all the way down to the hook since Tilapia are non-aggressive herbivore feeders which makes typical fishing methods pointless.
For anyone not familiar with how Tilapia feed. They will either dig algae and other 'stuff' off the bottom, or float up like an elevator underneath anything they think is tasty floating on the surface and gently inhale. If they feel anything rigid (aka the hook) they will not bite, or bite gently, then spit it out immediately. They aren't big fighting fish either which makes using super ultralight gear much better for the fight factor as well as dealing with no weight or the weight of a just a small swivel.
If you are catching good size Tilapia, they make for wonderful eating in a variety of methods. I fillet mine and bake them Italian style. Yummy!!
Another way to fish for Tilapia is to buy Fly Fishing line and a few dry flies which float. It's a big pain in the a** to try and even get it to cast from a spinning reel. But if you can use super ultralight rod and reel gear, you can be certain that the Fly Fishing line and dry flies will definitely float and produce a fair amount of strikes. Nothing beats plain bread as this video shows, but I'm always looking for more than one way to solve a fishing situation.
Last trick I know that works for me here in Central Florida in the brackish water canals I fish behind my house.... NEVER try to top water fish with any of the methods in this video or those I've mentioned when the water is rippling more than very slightly. He was essentially letting the bread and the fish hook itself which is awesome. But if the Tilapia can see you, your shadow, or you just stand close to the water. Tilapia will not bite anything you throw at them. These fish are incredibly wary and apparently have excellent eyesight for any type of perceived predator. I use Cottonseed Oil bricks where I plan to fish. Throw a decent Zoe piece of these bricks into the water without a chum bag unless you plan to move around. They dissolve VERY SLOWLY but release the oils almost immediately which attracts and holds these fish as well as many other varieties within a few feet of where you tossed in the Cottonseed Oil chunk. Nest place to buy them is from Carolina Mealcake. The man who does this does it as a hobby to make extra money to keep his working farm going. Any good chum will work wonders in water not maintained by any third parties. In managed fishing spots, you typically don't need these extra fishing tricks, but my canal is not managed and any fish in there got there by natural means decades ago.
I hope my post gets the answers I've requested. Plus, I hope some of my tricks might prove successful for any who read this. Perhaps one day I'll start my own fishing channel here.

Is this Florida. Most the bluegill comments are from people in the north. I showed some people methods from the great Lakes and Detroit and St. Clair river methods in Cape coral and we were killing it. I really miss those backwater canals. It was like a labyrinth of wild fish and aquarium fish mixed with fresh and salt. Good fishing buddy.

There's a fish called an Umbee. Green rainbow monster. Looks like a small mouth bass with tropical colors and the big hump. Also the African great Lakes have some really pretty and wild cichlids. Great fishing buddy. Keep it up.

Good video, in fact, I REALLY enjoyed watching you... but a few pointers to help us viewers.
    DON'T chew gum while talking.
Remember you have 2-3 feet MAX from the camera microphone if you want us to hear you.
Practice using your camera so you know how to do so without the wind drowning you out. Or get a muffler of some kind.
Additionally, like others have said, SHOW us... DON'T TELL us.
    What kind of bread?
    What size piece?
HOW do you attach it to the hook?
Do you ball it up around the hook, or hook a flat piece like a worm?
Do you make a dough and then let it dry in balls?
    What size balls?
    HOW do we do it?
    Assume we know absolutely nothing.
Lastly, watch your videos and if their is a problem, re-shoot the portion that is crap. Edit it in before you upload.
Looking forward to the rest of your fishing vids!

I tried using bread on the wild tilapia in the small canal in my back yard but nothing seems to work. I used worms, bobbers, bread, and even the hook you reccomended. Everytime those smartasses see me they hide under the plants and they dont eat the bread at all. All they do is look for food on the bottom and they don't even nibble on the bread! I even tried white bread and it still didnt work! Could you please tell me if im doing something wrong? Thanks.

    • @bradleylarson48

Watermantaloupe wild tilapia are tougher to catch. In the wild they eat a lot of insect larvae mosquitos and other bugs on the top of the water. You could try a fly or hotdogs also work very well for me. Just downsize the hook a little. Also try flouro carbon leader probably 12 pound test. It’s more invisible than mono.
