  • Stephennie Mulder, associate professor of art history at the University of Texas at Austin, presented her research during the Rice University School of Humanities’ fifth annual Kazimi Lecture in Shi’i Studies on Feb. 15, 2024. The lecture, titled “The Architecture of Coexistence,” highlighted insights from medieval Syrian shrines and their relevance to modern sectarianism.
    The lecture was moderated by Rice's Jeffrey J. Kripal, the J. Newton Rayzor Professor of Philosophy and Religious Thought in the Department of Religion.
    The Kazimi Lecture in Shi’i Studies is made possible through a generous gift to the Rice University School of Humanities from the children of Syed Safdar and Samina Kazimi.
