@@STP43FAN1 no its not the nfl sold out to get more viewers, ie women and short attention span males to get higher ratings , they give the offense way too much leverage against the defenses in order to make the game more "exciting" so peopel will watch it, sorry but the nfl sucks now a days, take away about 10 teams and the quality would be a little better

@@STP43FAN1 the athletes are certainly better, ill concede that, but the rules concerning the physicality of the game have strangled the 'better' out of it, man. How about this,
      1. He let the players kneel for the Nation Anthem. Now to avert public hostility, the networks don't even show it, disgusting!
      2. He let's the players celebrate like a bunch of low class douchbags after every play/tackle/ & TD with the exception of 1 team. The Patriots. Old school Belichick would never allow it. Years ago players took care of business with quiet dignity & went back to the huddle.
      3. From footballs inception, there have been an avg. of 5 penelties per game.
Since this clown took over, there is over 20 penelties, slowing down the game.
      4. Speaking of, he has hired a slew of incompetent refs based on certain factors, that have nothing to do with football, instead of being the best they can be.
      5. In inclement weather, he postpones games. This never ever happened before in the NFL.
      6. He took away the football announcers freedom of speech regulating what they say & what they can't say. Also in the post game.
      6. He is the most GREEDY of any commissionner. Since he took over, TV commercials have more than doubled slowing down the game even more.
His net worth is 200 million.
The most by far of any commissionner.
      7. He dictates which of the the NFL commercials can be shown, which are left wing propaganda garbage lies. Some truly disgusting.
      8. The "end racism" & all the rest of the idiotic banners shown not only in the end zone but on the back of the players helmets. What the fuck does that have to do with football. Why doesn't he permit "support the police" or patriotic banners? Not this piece of shit.
      8. He let free agency get out of control
because he wants parody. No more dynasties. Why? Because parody brings in more millions for himself.
I can go on & on & on & on.
The guy gets booed wherever he goes. He ruined football. The ratings proove this point.

It is a shame that the late Jim Brown retired when he did. He retired in 1965 at the age of 29, just one season before the Super Bowl era. If he hadn't, it is quite possible that the Browns and not the Packers would have been the dominant team in the NFL in the late 60s and would have won at least one Super Bowl (their last championship was in 1964). I have always wondered if Jim Brown ever regretted leaving football when he did. When he watched Super Bowl games, I wonder if he ever thought, "Damn, I could have been playing in that game."

The Chargers were 2-6 at the midpoint of the season and went 7-1 the second half and finished 9-7, 1 game short of the playoffs. They were just torching teams during that 7-1 run and if they'd have gotten in, even as a wild card, they could have done some serious damage in the playoffs and possibly won the Super Bowl. They showed that sometimes bad teams are really just good teams under the surface waiting to get out. They were in the embryonic stage of Air Coryell that year and by the end of the season they were flying high and what many might not realize is that they had a really good defense that year too. It's true they underachieved over the next two seasons but the league hadn't adjusted to them yet in '78, which made them extra dangerous.
Conceivably, the Holy Roller play might have cost Air Coryell a Super Bowl championship.

We can only dream. Still my favorite regular season. I think we attended 14 games that season. Was lucky enough to see the Chargers 3 times during JJ's rookie campaign. The one they lost without Fouts in KC was the hardest loss to take as a teen. We witnessed Earl 6 times over the course of his rookie season as an Oiler, including the greatest run I have ever witnessed against my beloved Bolts.

    • @madcapper6
      @madcapper6 11 месяцев назад

@@mediadugout2684 The Steelers were as tough as ever that year and it would have been very tough to beat them, especially at Three Rivers. We're talking about a hypothetical here, since they unfortunately missed the playoffs but in the case of that '78 team, it's kinda hard sometimes not to. Yeah, we can only dream.
The loss in KC, was that the one loss they had during that 7-1 run? That's awesome you got to see so many games that year including a few of JJ as a rookie. I don't recall the Earl run you're referring to but I'll have to try and hunt it down if it's available somewhere on the net.
I'll have to say it was a bit of a rough ride being on board the Air Coryell train back in those days. Such high expectations and a fun ride for the most part with a lot of painful disappointment too. I'd like to get your take on it but for me I think '79 and '80 were the biggest disappointments because they had a top five defense those two years along with the top #1 or #2 (can't remember which) offense. Can't be any more set up than that.
Best moment's gotta be the Epic in Miami for me.
Cheers to ya and thanks for the upload and the response.

That 5 year run was so much fun. What highs and lows. I know everyone talks about 1981 but 1979 they almost got it together. Only went to the Steeler game that year. It was one of the most electric crowds I have ever witnessed. In 1980 we went to the Hall Of Fame Game that was a monsoon (my Grandmother lived close by and I feel like I grew up in the Hall ), The Raider game in week 2 and the game here at Texas Stadium. Someone got my Super Bowl tickets in the 1980 season with my tear drops on them. I so wanted the Superdome to implode. Still have not seen that game to this day. 1981 we went to see the Viking Game and also had Super Bowl Tickets. Watched the 1st Half of the Dolphin Game from Texas Stadium. Sped home to watch the 2nd half and only missed 1 play. Was so mad my Dad did not want to go to Miami again (We went to the 78 Wild Card Game). I was spoiled rotten. He told me we have Super Bowl tickets and would see them then. The Strike Year was my Senior Year of High School and we only went to the game at Candlestick and Pittsburgh. Having spent a lot of time in a lot of stadiums I feel like I wasted a ton of energy trying to find ways to see or find out the Chargers scores during this era. I lugged my portable TV to every day game from 76 on.

Also what strikes me are these are the uniforms I grew up with ....now not playing this day are my Cowboys who to me, BY FAR, have the greatest uniforms in all of sport (closest to me is the uniform of my beloved Red Deer Rebels (WHL HOCKEY) NOW outside of my Cowboys...2 The Raiders 3. Falcons 4. Patriots 5. Tampa Bay (especially white jersey) 6. Chargers blue (I must say the Chargers powder blue are nice but WAY WAY overrated. ) My most hated and I live in Philthy are the eagles and Washington ...Steelers and SF. HOWEVER .....these eagles uniforms were their best ..they are really nice, especially the white jersey and Buffalo really nice. I do not understand why any of these teams changed their uniforms....If I could add 5 players to my 1978 Cowboys (honestly my top 2 Cowboys team of all time) 1. #37 Lester Hayes CB Oakland 2. #10 Brad Van Pelt LB NYG 3. #82 Ozzie Newsome TE Browns (we had a 2nd TE Jay Saldi #87 who we did not use nearly enough) 4. #63 Lee Roy Selmon (DE/OLB) Tampa. To me still the greatest Buccaneer to ever play ...so underrated to this day and 5. Cliff Branch #21 WR Oakland...just like Drew Pearson...BEYOND CRIMINAL it took way to Kong to get into the HOF. 6. Alfred Jenkins WR Falcons to me the greatest Falcons WR. Oh and aside from my Cowboys...the greatest offense I saw was the 1980 -82 Atlanta Falcons William Andrews was great oh and I will say this .....the most overrated RB I ever saw was....BARRY SANDERS. 1. HE SUCKED at catching the ball out of the backfield....was never used short yardage and he did NOTHING on the field that Tony Dorsett and Gayle Sayers did not already previously do before him and did it MUCH BETTER. A Truly honest Lions fan will tell you...if not for a knee injury...was Barry better than Lions #20 BILLY SIMMS?. Now before you freak out reader..watch some Billy stuff before you say a word.

Why do we always have someone tell us about the players back then to the players today. I loved football back then. No cry babies like today but he athletes are much better in this era. Saying tight ends then were better than Kelce is just ridiculous. Drop Kelce as is today in 1978 and we’d be talking about the greatest player ever in any sport. He would absolutely dominate catching and running against players 45 years ago. Stop acting like a fool
