    I don’t think people realize how big of a deal this release was and how big of a technical achievement it was. No one thought this game was coming to Sega or if it was even possible on the Genesis. Truly an amazing moment in gaming history.

      Maybe because today's gameplay resembles too much on daily society, you don't want a copy of real life but you want a real game experience that you cant have if everything looks like its recorded from every day life. These games out of the 16-bit era looks like games, and don't have too load and do all kind of stupid updates before you can even play them!! Put in your cartridge and your ready to go ;)

    This was the closest to an arcade-accurate home version of SF2 at the time, since its code is ported directly from the CPS1, as evidenced by both the AI and the existence of CPS1 chains.

    The best 16-bit Street Fighter II. Super smooth, with nice graphics, dual plane scrollings, faithful soundtrack (Ken theme is AWESOME in this version) and most content from the arcade (the original intro, many turbo options, the CPS-1 chains, etc.). Just the voices are quite scratchy but this has nothing to do with the system capabilities, it just Capcom that struggled with their sound driver (there are many Mega Drive games out there with clearer speech than that, Space Harrier 2, Toejam & Earl, Dynamite Headdy or Mega Turrican just to name a few). Also this video is emulation-based and the game would sound much better on real hardware.
    EDIT: Taking a glance at some comments, no offense but, I'm surprised at how superficial some people can be. I mean, the only way to consider the SNES version as being "better" is if one doesn't play the game and only looks at a bunch of screenshots. Otherwise, one would know that:
    - while the SNES version shows more colors, the Mega Drive version has more details (like the moon at Ryu stage) and more background animations.
    - while the SNES version has cleaner sound effects and speech, the overall sound is muffled and less faithful to the arcade than the Mega Drive version.
    - And the most important, gameplay, where the Mega Drive once again has the upper hand since it's smoother and allows to replicate the CPS-1 chains unlike the SNES version.
    Furthermore, the Mega Drive version also has more content, with the arcade intro and even some exclusive game modes.
    It's easily the best console port of its time followed by SNES and in last place the PC Engine version (which is an impressive port considering the hardware but it's not as good as the others).

    • @andyrodgers5355
      @andyrodgers5355 6 лет назад +15

      The Mega Drive/Genesis port isn't the best 16-Bit Street Fighter II. The limited 512 colour palette and the display of only 64 of them on screen makes the graphics much duller than the superb Super Nintendo version. Both the music, voices, and kick/punch sound effects are also of a lower quality. Still a reasonable port.

    • @solarflare9078
      @solarflare9078 5 лет назад +3

      TylerNessss Actually, there is. One of the biggest reasons why is the fact the Mega Drive uses an very identical soundchip to the arcade (YM2612 vs YM2151), which makes it easier for Capcom to port the music there and pretty much forces the SNES to have "rearranged" tunes (and some of them sound bloody awful tbh). The arcade combos also exist in the Mega Drive game as well, plus more background details than the SNES. It controls better too though this may be because of the differences of controller pads. The Mega Drive has a 6-button pad, which is pretty much an arcade fighting game button layout for home consoles. With the SNES controller.... I wouldn't say it was SF 1987 hard to perform special moves, but it was pretty hard to do moves with it. I certainly can't do them with ease.

    • @Bloodreign1
      @Bloodreign1 4 года назад

      I own this version, and both SNES games, of course I don't bother looking for little details like that, because I just like to play the games. Looking for little things wrong seems kind of snobbish personally. Just enjoy the damned games, because we don't get good stuff like this anymore, and the 16 bit era is long gone (but the fallout is mighty nice when it came to game hunting, 354 games between SNES/SFC and Genesis/MD for myself combined). But no lets talk about the little things between both consoles (modern consoles don't have that dignity to them, games seem no different between them) and piss off owners of either console instead by nagging on little things we don't like about one or the other.
      Sure funny, no one I knew shit talked either console, you had one, or the other, you'd go over and play games on the console you didn't own, and they'd do the same on the one you had that they didn't own. Of course of all the people I know, only 1 had a Genesis in the end, the rest got rid of their Genesis for either SNES consoles, or NES consoles. These days, I have 2 SNES systems (one with clipped tabs for imports), and a model 1 and model 2 (now retired due to having a model 1) Genesis. And you know what, I don't give a damn if a game is better on one console or the other, I just enjoy my games I have for both. I'm guilty of owning the same game for multiple consoles, because I love the little differences they had, like extra modes.

    • @Muzzer27
      @Muzzer27 9 лет назад +1

      Exactly, the sound was such a crap on the Mega Drive, so inferior to the one of SNES. I had the Mega Drive, my cousin had SNES, and I have to admit he made the right choice. Sonic was great, but any multiplatform 16 bit game that came out back then looked far more superior on the SNES. Generally, Nintendo seemed half a generation ahead of Sega in therms of their respective 16-bit machines. That being said, I still stuck to Sega to the point that I bought Mega Drive II after my MD I died of overuse:)

    • @gentarofourze
      @gentarofourze 9 лет назад +3

      Muzzer27 Totally disagree as for one, SF2 games were bad as they were ports by devs not knowing the hardware and multiplatform games looked mostly equal, (Earthworm Jim far superior on Sega, Mickey Mania far better as Snes had loading times and missing level)
      The snes had a higher colour palette and clearer sound(though Sega beat them at arcade style oomph as Snes was more dull sounding)

    • @Muzzer27
      @Muzzer27 9 лет назад

      gentarofourze I would call it exceptions that prove the rule (no matter how little sense this expression makes;). I want to make things clear: I loved the Mega Drive, otherwise I wouldn't ask my dad for two Mega Drives in a row. Still, the SNES was a 16-bit monster, games like Donkey Kong Country and Starwing defined a new standard in video gaming back in the day. Sure, the Mega Drive was older, so it came as no surprise that the SNES would surpass its technical capabilities. But let's be honest - loading times in games didn't matter whatsoever when one was 10 years old. You're right about the multiplatform games, though. I would go even as far as to say that they were slightly better on the MD (Earthworm Jim), but if we talk about exclusives - SNES dominated indivisibly.

    • @gentarofourze
      @gentarofourze 9 лет назад +1

      Muzzer27 Well the Snes had extra chips that made up for things it was weak at, so that made it more powerful in some ways but crazy priced in others, I always thought Starwing was ugly, DK was great but Sega outclassed it on arcade and sports games, apart from Mario and Donkey Kong most big names werent released in Europe such as the rpgs its hailed for and even in the countries they were, they were expensive and not mainstream(as fan translations show))
      I just played what version of a game I had, I never noticed too much difference back in the day or it was minor differences like noticing Toy Story had better colours on Snes but not enough to choose it over, only multiplatform game I can remember ugly on Sega was Zombies and that was a bad port rather than hardware problems.
      Researching online people say SF2 on Sega was a port of Snes version since the beta was done by a different team and has far superior clear sounds, and hardware wise theres hacks of MK2 that give it all the arcade sounds apart from Shao Kahns death scream and they are clear so it shows the MD was capable of it.

    I personally prefer the sound of the Genesis to the SNES. When I first got this game on SNES for Christmas 93. I couldn't wait to hear the arcade voices in my house. Wrong the SNES speeds up to the " ken" in hadoken and shoryuken there by ruining it and the voice for the hurricane kick too. Sega nailed it imo. It may sound choppy at first but your mind smooths it out very quick.

    The only good things about this port conversion was the music renditions and how fast paced this game was compared to the SNES version, even though I've played the heck out of that version. Aside from the bad audio samples and inferior graphics, this was a decent port for its time.

    The Genesis/MD makes an attempt at the arcade. The SNES sort of has its own 'emulated' version lacking all the trimmings, and, sure I loved the original Street Fighter 2 the World Warrior on SNES, but, as the games went on, the hardware limitations of the SNES really showed, not only in the gameplay, but the lacking intro and sounds too. Omission is no excuse. By the time of Super Street Fighter, the SNES version completely misses the commentator: Round 1 Fight, not even on SNES... Capcom really put the time in for SNES, a pity they didn't give the Mega Drive the same development budget.

    As usual everyone dissing the md for poor sound and graphics what they seem to forget is the md was an older console than the snes. The fact that it could still keep up is amazing I think. Also the md runs rgb natively so just plug in a scart and graphics and colours are amazing. And as for sound its known that the md mk1 has a better audio chip than the md mk2. So get yourself a md mk1 and a scart lead and stop bitching!

    I had the SNES version, and was always lead to believe that the Mega Drive port was inferior. I have never played it on real hardware, but I've played it on emulation and it's actually pretty solid. Yes, the audio sampling is very rough. But I don't think it's a deal-breaker. However, there's no way I could ever have accepted playing it with a three-button controller. The workaround of toggling between punches and kicks by pressing start would make it near unplayable, for me. But with a six-button controller, I'd say that this was easily on-par with the SNES version once you factor-in the pluses and minuses of each system's offerings. I could be persuaded to think that the Mega Drive version is actually the slightly superior one.

    Sorry this version is ok but graphically, sonically and in terms of smoothness this is inferior to the SNES version . I've played both and also owned both Sega and SNES consoles too, it's an unbiased opinion. The coders did well to get it this good on the mega drive I know there were quite a few hurdles they had to negotiate too
