(2023) Lifelong fan of Paul - just now seeing this for the very first time tonight. When I was 13 (1981) I bought this album, One Trick Pony, and I swear to you, I am sure I listened to it 500 times all the way through (probably more). While all of my friends were listening to whatever they were listening to back then, I was right here, this was my center. I'm a professional illustrator today, have been for 25 years now, before that, I was a Graphic Designer and Art Director... when I was a kid back then, all I did was draw... all the time... all through the night... creativity and talent ran in my family but no one had ever pursued it... so I was going to. I was a latch-key kid... my Mom worked from 3 to midnight and would sometimes not get home until 1am or later. Making art wasn't just a thing I did - it was my lifeline and I was going to use it to get out of my dead end little town one day. I listened to albums and drew all night long, my art supplies spread out all over a covered pool table that we had in a side room off our living room. Being alone and on my own all the time was so extremely hard to take, I felt like I was in solitary confinement for crimes I never committed and no one could name. But it was in no way as hard as the beatings and mental abuse I took from my brother (7 years my senior) that I'd endured for 11 years without anyone ever knowing about it. Yet another cruel and devastating punishment that I had been sentenced to without cause. Once my brother moved out, I was on my own - safer, but not free. I can't tell you how many nights I would just sit in the dark emptiness of my house and just cry. What was going to happen to me? Where would I end up? I was so lonely, I was so alone... like someone had left me on the moon to die. But ultimately, it only made me more determined, that no matter what, I was going to get out, I was going to make it... and one day, when I was 16 I did. I moved out. When I was 18 I landed my first design job... all those hours had paid off. In 2 more years I would meet and fall in love with the most precious girl I'd ever met, we would move away together to a much better place, we had 3 amazing and wonderful kids together, I found work again as a creative and then eventually, in time, I went solo. Today, my kids are grown and they are the most wonderful, kind, smart, beautiful people I could have ever hoped to ever know. I am not alone, not in the slightest. My wife and I are still happily married and work together from home every day. But you know what... I still draw through the night and into the morning, making artwork for art directors and clients and myself... and I still listen to these songs. They kept me alive when I was a kid... they filled my time while I worked away at completing my sentence. Life can be hard. Life can feel empty. I hope that is not your story. The only advice I have for you if you do find yourself in a place that feels hopeless is to use all of that pain that that hopelessness makes you feel and use it as fuel to do ALL of the hard things you need to do to get you to a better place. Don't give in... there were so many times that I wanted to... but I didn't... and that matters... it matters to my wife who I would have never met, my kids that I would never have gotten to share my life with, my grandchild that lights up and calls me Pop! whenever we visit! I did it... because I was NOT GOING TO LOSE. I was NOT GOING TO BE BEATEN. I did it when I didn't want to... and I made it. You can make it. Don't let ANYTHING beat you. You have something to give... choose something GOOD that you can give back to the world... and make it happen. And listen to great music that you'll remember your whole life when you're making things happen. All the best to you!
Can still remember playing that cd when I was real young in my bedroom and reading the lyrics in the booklet...every song off that album is amazing in its own way. 10/10👍🏻👍🏻
I used to drive a coffee truck in Cleveburg for about 10 years. I had one route where I stopped at a GE factory right at noon that was across the alley from the side door to the original Cleveland Agora. I remember when Simon was in town for this project. I used to wonder in the door once in awhile and on one occasion Simon was just up on the stage hanging out, doing nothing, just being himself. Caught a glance, and got a smile and a nod and then I had to go on to my next stop. Same place where WMMS would do their live Coffee Break Concerts. I would pull up listening to it on Wednesdays and more than once almost ran over host, Matt The Cat as he was bolting out the door to get back to the station studio. Always in a hurry since it was about 10 blocks away. Good times. Cleveland was a special place back in those days. Even had the factory as a stop that was in the Joan Jett movie Light Of The Day. The one where they made TV dinner trays.
My favorite song: The Sounds of silence I used to play on the radio along with the Beatles when I acted as a DJ and speaker on our student FM radio way back then some 54 years ago. I also played most of their tracks. Great poetry and a full dedication to their art.🌹
Simon makes me Think about, all these extra moves I've made And all this herky-jerky motion And the bag of tricks it takes To get me through my working day I'm a one-trick pony
It’s September in 2024. Just two weeks ago, Rick Beato released an almost hour and a half interview with bassist Tony Levin. So imagine my surprise when I clicked on this video today, and just a few seconds in, I’m like, “Wow! There’s Tony Levin on bass!” One of the things I’ve noticed about the Peter Gabriel concert videos that have been posted on RUclips over the years, is that while Peter Gabriel has managed to transform himself from being unrecognizable in his early Genesis makeup, through to his pretty good-looking young man, solo career era in the 80s and the 90s, to what he has looked liked from the early 2000s and through to today, Tony Levin just doesn’t seem to have aged one bit! In that recent Rick Beato interview, he’s got a few more wrinkles, but otherwise, he looks exactly the same as in this video.
The band sounding a little road weary but still excellent. When I found out Paul simon had been in a movie I had to see it. Of course, his immense talents don't extend into the acting world but I was still impressed by the one trick pony project over all. The jazzy nature of the music really hooked me. It was quite funny also, but he had a high bar for what was a success and it's a shame that one trick pony is rarely mentioned these days; it did produce his last big billboard hit with Late in the evening.
'Stuff' with guest Paul Simon for the soundtrack although strangely he commands this as though they're the backing band..and considering who and where he is at this time in his career, respect.
Christ Mon, give it a a break you been makin me laugh and cry think deep and sigh for so long For so many moons Can't even remember when you entered the room Is this gonna be over soon? Cuz every time you open your mouth My brain goes south Lord my goodness You do know how to feed this poor soul to the lions.
Back in the days of his absolute greatness when his songs had depth, richness, and also a structure, a direction. Although I'm a great fan and he's the one who made a songwriter out of me, I'm sad to say that he's gone downhill since "Surprise". Now his music is a just a bunch of unstructured pieces glued together. Still, that removes nothing from the HUGE body of work and legacy of this genius.
Back when people had enough attention span to enjoy intelligent songs played subtly. Today most of the crowd would be bored after 8 bars and staring at their phones.
Was this shot at the Agora, in Cleveland, as part of a rehearsal for what we see in the movie? The song is played at a slightly slower pace than the version that appears in the movie and on the album.
Eric Gale on lead, Tony Levin on bass. Getting all the greatest studio musicians of the time to back him up blows my mind. Steve Gadd on drums and Richard Tee on keys. Wiki them. Incredible resumes.

Sound of Silence, Mrs. Robinson, The Boxer, Bridge, Cecilia, 50 ways to leave your lover, Kodachrome, Still crazy after all these years, Me and Julio down by the schoolyard, Late in the evening, Graceland, You can call me Al, The obvious child - all that together and 3 Grammy album of they year awards makes together exactly _one_ hit. This music is unbelievably good! Paul is a sensational entertainer. The best of all the rest! 🎉❤💐
Still consider this to be the best album he has ever made !!!
Loud and proud. Paul Simon was way ahead of his time.
He always surrounded himself with the best musicians
He had too, to make himself sound good
He has an astonishing musical catalogue of music and influences across different genres
One of Paul's best albums! His talent is diverse & unrivaled!
No offense to Paul Simon, but my dog could write and sing a hit song with that band.
@@seurynck doubt it.
The movie may not have been a blockbuster, but the soundtrack album is a wonderful evidence of Mr. Simon's status as N.º 1 Songwriter of our time.
Absolutely still in my top 5 albums of all time. love every track.💕
I would Absolutely put Paul in with the top 5 songwriters of All-Time......
If you’re a Paul Simon fan, it’s a very good movie imo, with his touring band of the era playing themselves
One of the smoothest, coolest tracks ever
I think its the best album, it opened my brains. And made me a drummer...so thanks

Amazing song Mr. Simon! Eric Gale... masterful!! What a collection of incredible talent on one stage!
My first audio-cassette ever I was offered by my best friend when I was 17 in College in 1982. Still got it....
I begged for this album when I was very young. I had no idea then what it was about, but my hormones sure did.
For real
how young???
Paul’s songs are always echoing in my ears over 30 years, of course today!

Ive wanted to see that since saw I saw the clip where his producer played by Lou Reed wanted to put strings over everything. Lol
Paul had a few more hits since. The best post-OTP album he did was Graceland.
I loved this song when I was a little girl I used to visualize the pony dancing.
Finally saw it. Considering half the parts were played by musicians, it was pretty good
Er .. ‘ you can call me Al’ and ‘Boy in the Bubble’ and ‘The Obvious Child’ were years after OTP - 😂😂
Wonderful song. A little funky for Paul Simon. Must have been struggle to keep coming up with singles.
