The hate that some death metal "elitists"(aka virgins) had for any band that was currently or formerly (even remotely) related to deathore was some of the most pathetic shit anyways. People acting like it was a war or something and you had to pick a side. They didn't even want to give bands a chance if they had any relation to deathcore. They were so closed minded. And it's ironic because deathcore was basically the closest sounding genre to death metal. They're really not that different. I mean by definition, at it's "core" all deathcore was just death metal with metalcore elements. And there was so many different types of deathcore. Not all deathcore was created equal. Some were good, some were bad, some leaned more towards metalcore, some leaned more towards death metal. But in the minds of the elitists all deathcore bands were identical. Shit there was a lot of deathcore bands that barely even had any core elements at all. I'd say the majority of the deathcore bands I used to listen to leaned more on the death metal side of things. They just had more frequent breakdowns than death metal typically has. But people wouldn't even give those bands a chance. As someone who enjoyed both, I didn't get it. Was a tiny amount of metalcore elements or some chugging breakdowns here and there really that big of a deal to the point where those bands deserved to get hated on or their entire catalogue of music completely written off as being dogshit? Like you said, it was a damn shame especially for bands like JFAC who only started as a deathcore band then switched genres completely. They released 1 deathcore demo and 1 deathcore EP, then got rid of every single band member aside from the vocalist and were a completely different band afterwards playing real (and quite good) death metal. I can't understand for the life of me why they still got hate. Probably because people didn't even give them a chance. Oh well, I bet those elitists missed out on bands that they would have really enjoyed if they actually gave the band a fair chance, but they missed out due to ignorance and feeling the need to pick a side for no reason.
Part of the reason they never got big after this is cause they didn't really announce this album and they really didn't tour for it or promote it, not like most bands would. It was very much a quiet drop. They just dropped this fuckin bomb on us and that was pretty much it. That's why there's practically zero live footage of them playing this stuff. I'v def had people that wouldn't listen to this because they thought it was just more slamcore stuff like their first album and i tried to explain how awesome this is that it's essentially a proggy death metal masterpeice and people just don't wanna hear it.
Standard people don't listen to death metal (or whatever you call this) anymore. I'm 45 years old and when I was young it was very popular. I loved the death metal back then especially Amorphis.
I've loved this band since their first album. I remember it being huge all throughout school, being in Arizona, and me thinking their name was weak but I gave them a listen and enjoyed it. They've changed so much but I still think they are on top. They're in my list of favorites after all these years.
I have to say, on the past few records, this band has been steadily increasing in musicianship and songwriting, and it's cool to see. I love the dynamic beginning that's reminiscent of Intronaut and how the solo has a moody post-apocalyptic feel to it; the bass being higher in the mix is a nice touch as well!
Job For A Cowboy when making this album: *wakes up one morning* "alright, let's actually write some good sounding shit". After hearing the two songs they out up I pre-ordered this with the shirt bundle. This change was for the better, looking forward for the whole album.
What in fuck's name? I thought JFAC was a shitty deathcore band? This song is absolutely amazing, is the rest of the album proper, uncompromised death metal?
They had one - I repeat, ONE - deathcore release. Everything else was death metal with tech death leanings, and this album is more along the lines of progressive death metal.
This is actually a great track! My usual reaction to Job for a Cowboy is "meh. . . it's not bad, but I'd rather go back to my old Morbid Angel or Carcass CD's instead." This track, however, makes me want to hear more of this album.
As expected, tons of people are being pedantic about what genre JFAC is/isn't, arguing about "tech death" this and "prog death" that, rather than just enjoying it for what it is; a great metal song. JFAC has consistently improved with every album, and this song continues that trend. Looking forward to hearing the full album.

Sun Eater is such a masterpiece. Right next to Ruination!!! So disappointed they didn't have a tour cycle for the album..
Job for a Cowboy has a rich and full sound, Their bass is badass!
I love the dynamic beginning that's reminiscent of Intronaut and how the solo has a moody post-apocalyptic feel to it; the bass being higher in the mix is a nice touch as well!
they have become even better and even more technical along with having spot on production and song writing
Job For A Cowboy when making this album: *wakes up one morning* "alright, let's actually write some good sounding shit". After hearing the two songs they out up I pre-ordered this with the shirt bundle. This change was for the better, looking forward for the whole album.
I couldn't agree more.
I don't know about you guys but I am sold on this album. 9/10 will buy
Love it. Cant wait for the new album. Been listening to jfac and going to shows since 2006
I need music sounding more like this. Such great sound.
Very nice indeed.
What in fuck's name? I thought JFAC was a shitty deathcore band? This song is absolutely amazing, is the rest of the album proper, uncompromised death metal?
I have the physical copy of this album and yes, it's pure and awesome Death Metal all the way through! I was really surprised as well.
They haven't been shitty death core since 2005
no they completely changed from deathcore after they realized its shittyness and now they rock
Sam Shaw Really? IMO They were good at being deathcore. They're really mediocre at tech death.
They had one - I repeat, ONE - deathcore release. Everything else was death metal with tech death leanings, and this album is more along the lines of progressive death metal.
why all the dislikes? this is the best song ever....best riff of 2016.
This was released in 2014.
Ok, thanks...still the best riff in 2016! That means they should be due for a new album soon, can't wait to hear whats next from them.
Best death metal album of 2014
Amazing song, amazing vocals and amazing sound
This record is so fucking under rated.
Danny Walker is my favorite drummer of all time. I got to see Intronaut a few years ago, and everything he does is spot on.
Downright crushing.
I heard this song and instantly bought the CD. This is just mmmmmm sploosh
that fucking bass line though
Seriously. It's fucking amazing.
The whole album bass is great
Yeah the tone and twang of it is just killer.
Never really got into this band from previous albums, but this song has me hooked. Looking forward to listening to the rest of it.
I love this, the intro sounds similar to something Scale the Summit would do. Fucking great job.
J4AC I am wondering if Walker will be stepping up and performing live drums with you guys? I can't wait for this live !,,!
0:18 cannot unhear
Anyone know where to find bass tabs for this? The bass sounds so amazing and i would love to learn it
This masterpiece tells story without vocals let alone how much more it gives with vocals
I'm glad they are growing as musicians.
Stoked for this album.
This is actually a great track! My usual reaction to Job for a Cowboy is "meh. . . it's not bad, but I'd rather go back to my old Morbid Angel or Carcass CD's instead." This track, however, makes me want to hear more of this album.
Morbid Angel is classic.
they keep getting better and better
I feel this song In my soul everyTime
As expected, tons of people are being pedantic about what genre JFAC is/isn't, arguing about "tech death" this and "prog death" that, rather than just enjoying it for what it is; a great metal song. JFAC has consistently improved with every album, and this song continues that trend. Looking forward to hearing the full album.
