    I'm kinda sad that I didn't find this sooner :(
    I used to have a 5 year old cat named Tiger. One day my older brother came home with a Egyptian Mau named 'Sensei'. Very hyper and stealthy cat. When he and Tiger first met they were 'eh' with each other. But as weeks went by that grew into hate. One night me and my Mom were watching a movie when we heard Sensei and Tiger fighting downstairs. My brother separated them but when Tiger was let outside (he was an outdoor cat) he never came back in. He was too scared of Sensei. The ol' timer was too slow for fighting.
    We rarely saw him after that. About 2 years later we had to move because of foreclosure. I kinda wanted to bring Tiger with us since Sensei was going with my brother but he was no where to be seen.
    I don't know if he's dead or if somone else took him in. We can only hope for the best. He was so patient with younger me that it's something to look up to. May your soul rest in piece (if you are dead), Tiger.

    I brought a 9 week old kitten home this past Friday. I was afraid my 8 month old kitten would be mean, because she don’t like my mom’s pets.
    I was surprised when these two were sleeping next to each other on day 2. Today is day 5, and they follow each other everywhere! They eat together, sleep together, play together, look out the sliding door together, take turns taking a shit in the box.
    I’m glad they have each other. NGL I feel left out now lol.

    I adopted two cats who were from the same litter. I was planning on only getting one at the time but when I saw that the one I preferred had a brother I just felt it wasn't right to separate them. So I took both of them in and I'm so glad that I did. They've grown up together, play together and sleep together. Even when they're jockeying for my attention, no one gets angry because they know they'll get their turn soon enough.

      chickapey Ye i did. Its better now but they still fight each other but not for fun. We have 2 more cats but they get along pretty well its just this one cat with the other one. She is pretty wild and the other one is more sleepy and comfy. These tips were pretty helpful especially the unite playtime tip.

      @chickapey 8 лет назад +8

      ***** oh good to hear there was some improvement. I had three cats (one has since passed) and when he third cat was introduced, he and the oldest one would get into fights the odd time. Always if they had seen another cat too close to the window etc. It would take weeks to get them back to normal and they never were great friends. Likely because it was like your situation... one was wild and the other was sleepy. LOL They both wanted to be boss in their own way

    Thank you! Great video! I too have had some of the same experiences with my 3 boys, (all blacks) of various ages (16, 8, and just over 1 years old) where they get along(so long as one is dominant, usually the older) but then, when the younger gets stronger issues arise. In fact, I actually adopted my youngest so that the middle on would have someone to "rough house" with, as it had become clear, that my senior just could keep up with his partner, so he'd just withdraw when the other tried to initiate play. I wasn't sure if a new, younger, cat would help or hurt the situation. (But you know how all the rescue organization are: "oh, one more will be fine" "the more the merrier", oh, and "we have a two for one deal going on right now". So, I adopted my youngest. As a small kitten he was not threatening to either, and initially everything worked out to my plan. In fact, the eldest seem to get a new spring in his step with the youngest who they could both play with (and dominate) I have just recently been experiencing new issues now that the youngest is a full year old and much bigger and stronger (and I know he will get a little bigger and stronger yet) Some of the techniques you describe I have uses (separating play) through trial and error. Now, your video has given me a whole new arsenal of tools to use as we navigate life's journey. Thank you again.

    I think that we have been fortunate. We have two male kitties, and they get along great. The only issue we have had was at feeding time the younger kitty decided he would eat first and no matter how the older kitty tried to get to the food, the younger would push in front. So I gave them separate bowls and manually placed the pushy kitty in front of his bowl and the older in front of his bowl and we have not had any more problems. You can believe that I was quite relieved that this minor adjustment resolved the problem. They are the greatest!

    We have two siamese kittens in a large one bedroom apartment. They have trees, perches, toys.. in the living room and the bedroom we have kitty corners with similar trees tunnels and toys. At night (to give them a break from each other and so we get our cuddle time in) and when they get too crazy, we each take a kitten and go to our "area." Most of the time they have free run of the house and we both interact with both kitties but of course Siamese are notorious for having that one person they can't live without and gladly they each chose one of us... this seems to work pretty well and they seem to appreciate each other more... but the screaming wrestlemania does still happen occasionally. Thanks to your video we will keep at it and still hold some hope that since they are young they may still become lifelong friends!! Great video! Thanks for the info!

    • @royalmichaels7586
      @royalmichaels7586 5 лет назад

      Just wanted to give a quick update on our siamese kitties.. when Kira got here she was just plain nasty to Loki. She also had alot more confidence getting down off the cat trees where Loki wasn't sure how to get down. We even had a "lion king' moment with Kira literally throwing Loki off the top shelf and clawing his paws as he hung on for dear life. After watching the video We added a cat tree that wasnt so tall and only had room for one cat on top which Loki loves. They are now the best of friends (keeping in mind we had the fact they are kittens to our advantage). Since I wrote they are inseperable now. When they sleep they literally hug each other! Patience and don't give up and one day they may just surprise you! Thanks again for the help!

I just thought that my oldest cat was getting too old to play. He's 16 going on 17 years old......but yet he still has a lot of "spunk" left.

    Definitely need this. Our two cats (female is slightly older, but she's always been mean and bitchy, we rescued her) and the younger boy (super sweet, but loves to play and is gentle) just never get along. They'll chase each other around but as soon as our boy fights back, suddenly he's too rough or she just doesn't like it and hissing, yowls, attacks him for real. I've seen them play and he's barely rough at all.
    They were only ever bathing each other once while in the same cat tree, and basically split up when I walked up the stairs. Kind of like secret lovers lol.

    I’m so glad I found this video! I rescued a six week kitten from my backyard last month, and after I got him his shots I started introducing them. My kitten was so feisty- especially with biting both me and my other cat, but once a spray bottle came in to play it helped. However My other cat is a year older and all they do is play fight.
    I know this is normal but its not like they cuddle or groom each other after-it’s always play fighting. So now that my kitten is 12weeks old I’ll probably start implementing this into their regimen. Hoping it builds a loving bond between the two... Wish me luck!

  • @burnthescool
    @burnthescool 8 лет назад +197

    It's not his strength, female cats are known to be dominant and more Independent more "cat", while male cats are more Playful (and sometimes not as bright) and lean more to the "dog" way being more clingy with both other cats and humans. This has been my experience and i think that's what's happening here.

    • @shortyandkodi
      @shortyandkodi  8 лет назад +55

      +burnthescool Absolutely, though I've seen the exact reverse in other cats, so I didn't want to advise on gender, specifically. But thank you for commenting and letting others know this :)

    • @Rainy333
      @Rainy333 8 лет назад +5

      +burnthescool For me this is almost what happened with my cats, although they're both boys :) No hissing, but all the other signs are there. Retreating, not using cat tree anymore, stopping playtime if the other one comes close, and so on. It's more about individual personality than gender I think, though maybe more females are "soft" and more males are "rough"? I don't know, I never really had female cats so I can't say :)

    • @burnthescool
      @burnthescool 8 лет назад +8

      +Sho Ko Yes of course there are exceptions, however this is the typical from what I've heard, read and experienced. :) Thank you for sharing videos of your beautiful cats!

    • @myslithecat
      @myslithecat 8 лет назад +26

      +burnthescool That's exactly how my cats are. The female spends lot of time by herself and doesn't need that much human contact, the male one follows me around everywhere and comes to look if strange people come here. They both are about as playful, but the female is faster and better at catching things, male is quite clumsy and slow. And even though the female is about three pounds smaller, she's the boss in here.

    great job! i have 3 cats and 2 of mine are like that. they are always fighting. one will go up to the other and act like he's going to wash him on the head and then bites. it's gotten better but i'm going to try this. one of mine will definitely try to dominate play time and i do see the others just stop playing. you're so smart rob! i'm glad kodi and shorty are getting back to equality. i love them sooooo much!

    this was so helpful! thank you. I just adopted two new kittens and my resident cat is not the friendliest. We have them separated in the apartment right now and we are waiting until resident cat is more comfortable just being near the sliding door where they are.

    I swear your cats are my cats' twins, except the older one is a fluffy tuxedo and the younger one is all black! But behaviour wise, they're identical. This video came at the perfect time, as my younger one is a little too rambunctious now that he's bigger than my older girl. Thank you so much for the tips!!

    I found that doing somthing simular with my two dogs has really helped them learn to get along:)
    For a while my younger dog would steal all the toys and push my older dog out of the way, now they both get along really well, and they often cuddle up together in the dog bed. Although for dogs I would also recommend walking them together because it really helps them both feel happy as part of the pack:)

    thanks for this. It been two weeks since weve been doing these steps with my new cat and my resident cat. sometimes i get discouraged when they just want to wrestle/fight as soon as they get distracted by each others presence then we have to seperate them. but its good to know it happens too when they can be reintroduced
