  • When you’ve reached an age where everyone else seems to be getting married or having babies, being the only single friend can be rather unsettling. You may have friends and pesky (but well-meaning) relatives who will try to coax you to settle down or set you up on blind dates, but what if you are okay with being single?
In this episode of Hush Podcast, Hazelle & Germaine will discuss the highs and lows of being single and if (romantic) relationships are for everyone.

Attached most of my 20s and single all of my 30s. Now 41 n still single. I enjoy being single. I get to do things i like without a care what people's perceptions of me. I see friends and classmates my age who are married yet miserable, because they never got to discover who they are inside, which was something i only learnt from being single

I have been single until I was 27 when I matched with someone on a dating app. We got into a relationship and now, I am happily married to her. Currently, we are getting used to our new flat and lifestyles and on the whole, it has been fulfilling so far and the 2 of us split the household chores equally. My wife likes vacuuming and I do the laundry.
One can be happy being single as well because you have more time and money to discover yourself. My sister is 37 this year and she's happily single, moved out and has her own place and freedom. She is able to make the effort to spend time with her friends.
Single or in a relationship, you do you as long as you're happy.

the only thing bad about being single is feeling lonely occasionally. but thats it, after a while ur living life like normal

Yea, while being single/having multiple partners in your 20s and 30s is more fun, it means you may pay for it when you're older. You might be too fussy to make it work with anyone at that point.

@@dextercjr well you could marry someone who will never fulfill certain needs you realise you desire from a life partner. Like you might never have a deep connection and they may be quite distant. But you should in that case be looking for fulfillment in other ways - friends/hobbies. If you have codependency issues though you tend not to.
But, I must say just having someone near you and having your physical needs met makes things easier.. for myself, it's much better than being single I'm sure.

What I like about being singlehood is that I take it as a self-discovery journey, so I have a better bargaining power before going into my next relationship

These singles sure are better and having more fun.. but if they do start a family late, it will be a different experience. They will never experience forging a life together.

I've never even experience what it's like to date but i do want to date. BUT i'm afraid of the idea of getting married and i have a phobia of weddings/big gatherings it's just not a position i want to put myself in. So basically unless i can somehow find a partner that shares the same vibe that wants to date and have someone/a partner to spend time with and share storys and problems with each other without really any progress or intention to get married and have kids then that would be a miracle if not i'm perfectly fine remaining single it is what it is it's just not for everyone.

Not too sure there's negative annotations to singlehood. I have number of people around me who are single and we are mindful not to overstep our boundaries because it might just be a lifestyle that one adopts by choice or not.
But one thing for sure, it's better to be single than to be in a toxic/ abusive relationship. Treat singlehood as a phase to rediscover and improve self.
And by the way, I believe quite a number of local men of my generation are already doing a lot of housework and child caring in the household.

Ngl there are times I feel damn single when I see those who are attached but I can say 90% of SG/MY couples don't give me that vibe. It's mostly the overseas ones like tw,it,eu,jp that really hits you hardaf. Then again a RS is also 90% chore 10% happiness, maybe I don't like anyone enough yet but the trade isn't exactly worthwhile for now..

I don't understand this lack of 'freedom' when you are in a relationship. I understand that when you have kids, you lose freedom, but with relationships aren't you FREE to CHOOSE to spend time with your partner? 'Answering' to your partner is not an obligation, you communicate with them openly because you want to share your life with them.

Have you ever heard the expression, the road to hell is paved with good intentions? I accidentally stumbled upon this podcast and blimey, I was simply not prepared for what came my way for the next 32 minutes. No, I'm not talking about the heavy toll that the language inflicted on me both phonetically and grammatically, which it most certainly did, but the sheer banalities these two seemingly successful adult women were trying to pass off as informed and good intentioned advice. It is extremely unfortunate that by pedalling this stuff they are not only causing irreparable damage to their audience/viewers whom they think they're helping but also unmindfully perpetuating the very notions and beliefs that need to be demolished and junked. As long as we are subjected to the tyranny of this school of thought, perfectly normal singles in Singapore will continue to suffer its pernicious consequences of isolation and extreme loneliness which are completely avoidable.
