CHORDS & LYRICS
INTRO
C# F# G# C# (Capo Fret 6 - G C D G)
C# (G)
I danced in the morning
When the world was begun,
G# (D)
And I danced in the moon
And the stars and the sun,
C# (G)
And I came down from heaven
And I danced on the earth,
G# (D)
At Bethlehem
F# (C) C# (G)
I had my birth.
C# (G)
Dance, then, wherever you may be,
G# (D)
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
F# (C)
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,
G# (D) F# (C) C# (G)
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he
I danced for the scribe
And the pharisee,
But they would not dance
And they wouldn't follow me.
I danced for the fishermen,
For James and John
They came with me
And the Dance went on.
Dance, then, wherever you may be,
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he
I danced on the Sabbath
And I cured the lame;
The holy people
Said it was a shame.
They whipped and they stripped
And they hung me on high,
And they left me there
On a Cross to die.
Dance, then, wherever you may be,
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he
I danced on a Friday
When the sky turned black
It's hard to dance
With the devil on your back.
They buried my body
And they thought I'd gone,
But I am the Dance,
And I still go on.
Dance, then, wherever you may be,
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he
They cut me down
And I leapt up high;
I am the life
That'll never, never die;
I'll live in you
If you'll live in me -
I am the Lord
Of the Dance, said he.

Lyrics By Sydney Carter
My brother passed ..this was his favorite hymn...God Bless. 🕺
I’m here because my 5 year old has come home singing this song from school, I remember singing it myself at the same school 30 years ago
My 5 year old son came home swinging it too from school about 4 months ago 🇬🇧🙂✝️❤️
Amen..
😍 It's a great song!
Awesome
Awww! 😍 Enjoy!
I did drugs two years ago..but i've been clean for over two years now..
ITS HARD TO DANCE WITH THE DEVIL ON YOUR BACK..God bless you all.
Beloved, now you have many reasons to dance, he's off your back & you'll give him no more free rides
Thank you Sherry Lynn.😊
But even so, he still danced with the devil on his back. The greatest man in history our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ!

Yes I echo your words ITS HARD TO DANCE WITH THE DEVIL ON YOUR BACK how true, GOD BLESS YOU ALL, AMEN

True Faith becomes lost in music which allows you to think just what you like about the person and character of Jesus. Too many people like Sydney Carter believe things that are not proved.
@@rhodiusscrolls3080 True faith is never lost. 🙏🏼
@@herbertwest3220 It will be lost so much so that the Son of Man will not find it on earth when He returns
If you do not believe this I can see three mistaken ideas about the Lord and one of them is deeply distressing in the hymn In Christ Alone which a lot of people thought could replace the Creed with its present lines it certainly cannot.
I’m an atheist but we used to sing these hymns at my old song and there just so beautiful & nostalgic
You still recognize truth, and crave it: praying for you my dear sibling! Jesus loves you and so do we!

I'm also thinking of a scripture song that sounds like Lord of the Dance, but its is based on the Bible verse about Draw Near to God and He will draw near to you.
Am a Muslim ☪️ and love this song
“But the hour comes,
and now is,
when the true worshippers shall worship the Father

Gospel of John 4:23; Holy Bible) 🙏 😊
It is a great song Ahmed. Can you recommend a good Muslim song for me to listen to?
That's awesome. Jesus loves you and wants you to dance with Him! Following Jesus is an adventure--like a dance--it's good and exhilarating and hard sometimes, but so wonderful

When I was `14 my Mom sent me up to our parish to start a folk mass (guitarist and vocalist) as part of the mass schedule for Sundays. Recruited a couple of musical friends and this was one of the many songs we taught the congregation. We took no money from anyone for church service and never did. - 40 years of church music, it's service and gratitude to our Lord.
What other songs would you sing at this "folk mass"? This one sounds vaguely familiar. I wonder what other songs from that time I have forgotten. I like this song a lot.
God Bless anyone reading this 🙏🏻✝️💖

This song sums up all the Bible Teachings. Sing, love Jesus, dance in your heart, and Hear Him!
I went to a military academy when I was in high school. All the cadets would sing this song at the top of our lungs when they would play this at our VESPERS service on Sundays. I still remember how happy our old Chaplain got when he knew he finally found a song we all loved
I remember being five and singing this at primary school. Sat on the cold wooden floor crossed legged in the assembly hall. Singing hymns from the projector screen. I can still smell the school. The smell of disinfectant and lead from pencils. The classroom always smelled clean. I went back to that same school years later and it still smelled and looked the same. They still sang the same hymns. Thank you so much for this and the lovely memories. ♥️♥️👏👏
Best days... the memories and the vibe is still so vivid isn't it. :)
I remember sitting at school at five years old, and reading it off the old style projector, it was one of the songs that everybody put a lot of effort into singing!! Memories!! 😀😀
We did the same thg thing! ST Hughes primary 😁
My memory exactly. At Nchanga Trust school in Chingola.
I'm 6 and 2 days ago I remember singing this in assembly

In 1982 I didn't understand what these lyrics meant at infant school. In my mid '40s this takes on a whole new meaning and I am humbled.

Before I was saved I didn't realize the song was portrayed as if Jesus is singing it.
Such a joyful song. Let's dance America. Hallelujah to our Lord.

This song makes me cry with sadness for what we did to Jesus , it makes me cry with awe and happiness that he loves us all so and wants us to dance with him.
it makes me cry that one day I will get to meet him and carry on dancing Forever.

That's Jesus speaking to your heart. It's never too late to come back to the faith of your childhood.
This Irish song with these lyrics is spectacularly appealing ! It is the work of genius ! On the one hand the text / lyrics are very succinct. They explain the Life of Christ meaningfully, in a few compact verses; then, there is the folk music, which appeals to everyone and is rhythmic and modest. The melody lends itself to dancing or a serious march and even the "salsa"/ Samba rhythms of Latin America or Africa with overtones of Indian music making it very international sounding. It is personal, but not vulgar; and very consoling because it is defiant enough to encourage us in defiance of evil mockery and scorn ! The sound is generally musical , not "stiff" or "formal" but all-good and All - God .
I think you're confusing this with the Dubliners song. This is an American Shaker melody (Simple Gifts) with lyrics written by an Englishman (Sydney Carter) based on the English hymn Tomorrow Shall be My Dancing Day.
😢😢 in loving memory of my uncle he passed away in 2021he requested this at his funeral 😢😢
He's dancing with Jesus now & waiting for you to join them someday
If Jesus was alive right now and was dancing I think that alot of people would say he was a very bad dancer but at the same I also think that he would be the type of person who would simply dance because he enjoys doing it and he would not really care that much about what people thought of his dancing.
Yeah mw ro
Yeah me to
Jesus would be a good dancer. I bet he was good at everything.
Amen
He IS the Dance.
I first heard this song when I was a first-year high school student in 1967. It was sung by our Latin teacher, Fr. Jan Vanbrussels CICM at seminary programs.
I can picture that is one of The Times the apostle's were trying to keep children from bothering Jesus and instead he jumped up and lead them in the dance.
Yeah yeah
Amen
Today is the very 1st i heard this fabulous song!! Actually heard it being sung on a TV program. Brought tears to me as YES THIS IS JESUS' WILL THAT WE DANCE!!! Why more Believers are not dancing in church or as the song says "wherever you may be" is beyond me!! It is SO scriptural, if we are blessed w legs & feet= DANCE
Praise him in the Dance. The Bible and Footloose.
Use to sing this at primary school back in Jamaica. Oracabessa Primary school. Our principal Mr. Gordon would sing this at every general devotion 🔥💯🐐

@@wildfire160 I was a believer, just because my scientific analytical mind couldn't accept that our universe was random chance. At that time I accepted God by faith. Later I had an experience where I likely was going to die and either God or a representative of his came to save me. As of that time I had proof. If interested contact me and I will tell you the whole story.
