How To Make Traditional Caribbean Pepper Sauce: Grandma Louisa's Hot Sauce Recipe
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 окт 2024
- Grandma Louisa’s hot sauce is pure fire. And I like to say, if you need protective gear to cook, then count me in. This Trinidadian pepper sauce contains 135 (!!!) Scotch bonnets, 4 types of peppers, exotic fruits like pickled mangos and gooseberries and some other weird little ingredients that I never saw coming. And to bring this special hot sauce from the Caribbean over to Brooklyn, New York, Grandma Louisa had to undergo a whole lot of hardships dealing with domestic violence and immigration. Watch this episode and get cultured.

God bless you Louisa for sharing your life story and your recipe.
Caribbean women guesstimate very well indeed we don't measure, my grandmother did it my mother did it and I am good at it. 🤔😆🇬🇾 Thanks for sharing.
I enjoyed the video and learning a bit about a different culture. I have a tip for the other viewers. Do the processing on the stove with the vent on to draw the fumes from the peppers away or do it outside. Another little tip is using your vinegar in the processor to get all the left over bits of pepper. I have a lot of peepers growing and would love to share a video when I harvest.
I like gra nny she is extremely sweet n fabulous
7:37 When she choked and grandma jumped and clapped😂
2:36 When she talked to the little kid, he turned and walked away. 😂
That was the best bit, I laughed so much.
and danced
Something so special about west indian women.
Definitely! And Grandma Louisa is so awesome, hilarious, inspirational.
Yes!
Neisha Nine-Starz agreed the most beautiful and intelligent woman, as a Hispanic I love you all equally, but something about those Caribbean ladies
right
True babe
I love my west indian women, granny your the best, brings back memories of my aunt.
No body get hurt in grandma’s kitchen except the guest😂...tasting the pepper 🌶
All kids should have a grandma as authentic as her.
Grandma why don't you bottle it and sell it. I'd be your number 1 customer. Love hot sauce.
I was just thinking the same thing!
@President Funny Valentine D4C Nope! The amount of vinegar and cooking will kill the bacteria, if not the scotch bonnets.
You could probably find it on Etsy!
Y family is Trini and we live in brooklyn so this felt like home. She reminds me of my mom so much she even has a similar look. I miss my mom. This was so wonderful to watch reminds me of cooking with her.
Thank you for sharing that -- it was so heartwarming to hear. The memories of our moms and grandmas live on in their foods, and I'm glad this episode connected with you in such a special way, too. Stay warm and dry in Brooklyn today!

Grandma is so beautiful ❤💛💚
Grandma Louisa you are adorable. Thank you for sharing your recipe.
Grandma Louisa is hilarious, adorable and so strong.
OMG us Caribbean women dont measure stuff but it taste so good anyway. We guesstimate so well. Aewsome sauce.
Black people don't measure stuff. Period.
@@brendakabanda2181 many*
We don’t measure we just pour until our ancestors “say that’s enough child”
I think its a black people thing lol
The best cooking is by taste ; )
I love you tips
Thanks grannie, your hot sauce is about to go commercial
A beautiful lady with a wonderful personality. I’m going to try her recipe.
Love 💕 from Sydney
I was triggered when she said "Tobago"
Lol
Lollll same!!! Its
To BAY go
not To BAH go
Me too
Hahaha! It did get under my skin but some people just don't know I let it go
I'm not even from Caribbean, but the way she said is like....wow 🤔
That’s a good pepper sauce!!
It’s the bomb🔥
Oh, crap. I've watch less than a minute of your show and I'm already sold. This is quality content!
Chuchu! It's very common in Brazil, but I never could imagine it would be used in hot sauce. I will try it, now I'm very curious about.
It’s interesting how people eat different kinds of food in different parts of the world
That looks delicious! She is so sweet, I'm gonna have to call my Grandma
I’ve tried to make it. Thanks for making the video.
135 Scotch Bonnets 😳😱🧨🧨🥵🥵 😀 Wow, that looks awesome 👏 👏. Loved you video.
Grandma Louisa was wonderful to watch.
Thank you! She's a tough cookie with wisdom and some serious cooking chops! Love Grandma Louisa!
something ill be making for sure
Wow I really enjoyed your video. Not that I would be making that pepper sauce because not only am I the only one in my house that eats spicy but I’m wayyy not at that level yet. I need a few years!! 😂
Gonna make this ,thanks granny
Looks very jummy!
This was so much fun to watch!
Thanks! So happy to hear that! You should try making it -- gives you a whole, new, multi-sensory understanding of fun :)
I love this personality.. So humbling
It's great recipe but can you plz share the full measurements of this how much do I need to use each things plz
Just wing it, then do your own thing, you will surprise yourself. Go for it, make your own recipe.
This is beautiful.
....? It was a good and interesting video but how come we don't actually get the recipe.
True
Make your own, or write down everything granny uses and go with the amounts you desire, you will surprise yourself, black women in all countries do not use recipes as a rule. Never needed to. I know this for sure I’m one 72 years old and know many may people. Nobody uses measurements.
I’m a Fanti and my mum makes this sauce it’s literally the same recipe
I'm an Ashanti and mine is almost the same ingredients
what is the recipe?
Nai Love it’s scotch bonnet, tomatoes, onion, ginger, oil, garlic, and season to taste with salt , that’s our recipe
can you guys give a rough idea of quantities / ratio of ingredients? id be super grateful :)
Charlie Pitts just use your imagination and taste it, if you feel it needs more of one thing than another, like salt or sugar or vinegar garlic, go for it, you will surprise yourself. We don’t use measurements.
OMG I lived in this neighborhood and would shop from this store. Loved the vibe of this place. ❤️
Thanks for the recipe!
So in description add the recipe and share ?????
Thanks
She needs some trindad morgra scorpions for a true pepper sause
she is so sweet!
Came back to this recipe to make another batch. This method preserves so well and tastes great. I left most of the seeds in this time to retain the 'heat'. Such a fun video to watch especially the tasting thank you!
That looks like some tasty rocket fuel, reaper or scorpion peppers would make that like a machete fight in a dark room for your tastebuds, I like weird things
Pepper sauce on steroids! I love it!!!!
tuh-bay-go
Right! lol
I came here to say the same thing 😂😂
Lolll I hate the way she pronounced Tobago
Me also ..lol
Give her a break mahn! We all mis pronounce words.
Not all young west Indian women know how to cook
Thank you so much granny. In Jamaica 🇯🇲 Trelawny Albert Town we call our gran man GRANNY
Where can I find the recipe?
Totally making this
I love this Granny! I live in Brooklyn as well & have access to all the ingredients. Please post the recipe with measurements. I know it's mostly by taste but it doesn't need to be completely accurate.
Just use your imagination, and cook what looks and feels right, we black women just do that no need to measure, make your own recipe, I do many people want it from me, I give as presents to family and best mates, never weighed a thing, same as curry goat or stew chicken, just go for it. All th best, you will surprise yourself.
Can I get the recipe....pleeease! Didnt get what fruit you put in. Thnks Greetings from Switzerland
The thing is here in America, i notice they dont really know the difference between "hot and spicy" and it really isnt the same thing...hell they dont even know the difference between hot and hot depending how you use it lmao...love me some homemade hot sauce! much love
+A Cleric name Femboi I think I love both "hot" and "spicy" foods! But how do you define them? Temperature vs. flavor? Or....
+Cooking with Granny being part Indian, peppers in my food is a must, so whenever I say hot, I mean hot as in flavor. Hot scorches the tongue while spicy is mostly felt in the throat, making it a little harder to breathe. Not sure if I'm explaining it right cuz my English is little rusty when I have to put it in words lol
+A Cleric name Femboi So you would put wasabi in the spicy category, right?
Cooking with Granny Ive never had Wasabi before but i have heard about it. Perhaps Cayenne power? evern Parika power and black pepper i would toss in the SPICY category.
I gotta say i really want to try this recipe you made but where I live its hard to come by even HALF those ingredients.
+A Cleric name Femboi If you like spicy, you should definitely try wasabi! Where are you, by the way? India? Are there any sushi places by you? Can you get your hands on horseradish? That's the main ingredient in wasabi. As for Grandma Louisa's hot sauce, yes, it's hard to find all the ingredients here in New York City, too! We don't have the Scotch bonnets year-round and you have to know the right ethnic grocery stores that will carry things like pickled mango.
Great video and i enjoyed watching it. Thanks for sharing ..
Aww, thank you! So glad you enjoyed watching Grandma Louisa. And if you have a story about cooking with your own granny, please share!
+Cooking with Granny WOW! SPICY!" 😍
I'm from the Caribbean and LOVED THIS VIDEO. That is such a common story, and Granny Louisa seems lovely! This looks almost like my granny's pepper sauce, except she used green pawpaw instead of chocho and used fresh green mango. she also fermented some of the ingredients a bit first and zested and juiced the limes separately. I remember some bits because I used to help. Unfortunately she has passed away, so I can't get the recipe. Did you happen to have quantities, even approximate anywhere?
I'm actually working on the e-recipe book now! Thanks so much for sharing your memory of your grandma. Did the air around the kitchen get all spicy, too? What was it like cooking with her? If you have a photo of her, would love to feature it on our Instagram. Something like this (bit.ly/2kdIWpy) but from your point of view.
Thanks so much for answering, and yes, there are certain things you could know she was cooking from the time you entered the house. #PEPPAH!!! lol The wet towel trick helped a lot though. FANTASTIC news about the ebook, do you have a mailing list or newsletter so we know when it is done?
do you have a list of the ingredients she used for the sauce?
Love this video...... Great presenters working together.. i felt like i was in the kitchen with them.......! ! will be making my own pepper sauce soon and this video is the inspiration.. thanks guys....
I made the hot pepper sauce, and gal... my family is in love! Thanks Grandma Louisa. Start a channel!
Happy to hear this! It's been a long time, but I started re-posting videos again. Please watch and enjoy! If there are any other dishes you'd like to see, let me know. And if there's grandma recipe in your family, I'd love to cook it!
@@CookingwithGranny is there a recipe (ingredient measurements) for this hot sauce? I'd like to know how much salt and vinegar she used?
First time coming across your channel Grandma I'll definitely try that pepper sauce, much love from Toronto Canada and Guyana ❤🇬🇾🇨🇦
I didn't know about the wet towel trick. I drove my children and I out the house while simmering the batch on the stove. 😂
I am growing two Jamaican Scotch Bonnet plants....... and I cannot wait to get enough peppers to make a hot sauce. I love the flavor of these peppers, then followed by the heat.
Since when Trinidadians call Cristophine -cho cho? Are you a Jamaican now? There is no such thing as Carribean hot sauce, as everyone in Trinidad adds their own unique flavours . In the rest of the Caribbean they do it very different to Trinidadians.
I do not put salt in anything as it is the cause of many health problems. I never put heat to my pepper sauce. I just grind everything.
Thank you for showing us your recipe. It was enjoyable.
Lol just do it 😆 oh my my ears are on fire from watching 🔥 I love her energy 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
It.real ly bother me child abuse I hope she did not go back near her uncle wife can we get the peppers in Jamaica Queen's NYC
My grandmother just brought over some from Trinidad and it is powerful stuff.
Great video. I would love to taste this hot sauce. No idea where to get pickled mangoes or the "cho cho", unfortunately!
That kind of big Red pepper is not hot. My dad used to eat it. I said to him it was not hot!I finished up a jar eating with Black beans.
People have different ways of making this because I would boil first on low heat till tender then blended it
To make your really hot use the Trinidad scorpion peppers instead of dog Scotch bonnet.
Wow its hard to find scotch bonnets and this lady found an entire box full lol
My new favorite channel!
The chilies look scary hot but still will love to try :)
great recipe but can you plz share the full measurements of this how much do I need to use each plz
thanks for sharing the recipe i did it and it was good very good and very hot
Difference between habanero and scotch bonnet? I grow habanero but never had the other
This woman is awesome and i would be honored to spend time in her kitchen, learning from her!
I like how she dances after getting her to try it
Why don't you say that its Trinidad hot sauce? Because not all caribbean islands do it your way
I'm watching this from the United States Virgin Islands....THE WORLD'S PARADISE!!!
I love this video this brought bake so many memories with my mom 💜💜💜
I usually see it just blend never cooked ,,, awesome video
