A primary characteristic of Mozart is a puerile spontaneity that arises as if out of nothing --an electric naiveté than is mesmerizing in its childishness, and is unique to this master of masters. This symphony, especially the first and final movements, is imbued with that quality. By the way, there is a marchlike passage in the final movement that is quite reminiscent of the overtures of Rossini! Mozart, I dare to say, is God's greatest musical gift to mankind.
Strange that only a few of M's symphonies are well known. This one is a magnificent work yet I never heard it till now.
