Taking a Second Look at Greninja's Up Throw Combo

- For the longest time, I had no idea whether or not Greninja's Up Throw Up Air combo was guaranteed. Thanks to the training mode mod pack made by Jugeeya, I was finally able to see that it is! But on top of that, I've found a way to push this combo to the extreme. I'm talking taking stocks as early as 30 PERCENT. Here's a video on my progress through labbing!

I found you because Greninja is one of my mains, and this content is killer. I know its a little niche right now, but even if I wasn't a Greninja main I would be watching your stuff (I actually haven't been playing him lately, and this video is still getting me hype). Please keep plugging through man, the effort you put into labbing and these videos really shows, and your presentation is phenomenal. I'm buying tons of Apolotion stonks, I'm hoping this channel blows up soon.

Honestly the best Guides I've ever seen for Greninja and I've grown so much because of these, mentioning and describing tech I've never heard of and much more, seriously can't express how great these are. We need more like these.

The reason for the combo counter not counting certain combos is that the game counts a combo as true unless the combo is done when the opponent is out of hitstun on frame 1. However most characters only have frame 2 or 3 options. So unless you are fighting these characters, the combo is true.

I have just recently switched my main from Incineroar to Greninja. I have all 2.5 hours of your Greninja guides saved. These videos sure help a lot. After a couple days I was able to go from getting 3 stocked to 1 online. Thanks dad
Fun fact: Greninja (and ZSS) can also reach the top platform by airdodging down at the apex of full hop

To clarify about IDJ fair after D-tilt. I agree that at 120% or lower, IDJ Fair misses more often than a regular full hop, so it isn't needed. The problem is that the opponent won't always die to it at 120% and will try to avoid it, which greninja struggles at sometimes at killing past 120%. Plus, the buffer systems combined with short hop shortcut makes full fair after d-tilt incredibly inconsistent even with good execution. That's why at 130%+, IDJ fair is needed after D-Tilt, since they most likely will be too high for full hop Fair to connect and it's extremely consistent. Otherwise, the rest of this is pretty good.
Can you not just do irar bair after d tilt at the higher percentages?

I've been using idj and phantom footstooling since smash 4 and the beginning of Ultimate.

I only saw 1 or 2 true IDJs here. I think people are misunderstanding what an IDJ is. Should watch Snasen's video on it. You can't do the actual "IDJ" tech without an attack, that's what makes it tech. Most of this was just full hops or plain double jumps, you would see the double jump marker under his feet if he was doing it correctly.

Please teach me how to pivot grab and idj. I dont have my own switch so I dont get time to just press buttons and figure stuff out but I can def practice mid match if I know what I'm trying to do exactly

Wait how is it frame perfect if IDJ is jumpsquat into buffered double jump aerial? Is it like trying to IDJ out of shield or something?
What 2 buttons are you using for jump at 3:22 ? I’m use to using my Analog and R Bumper to double jump, but it seems that I need a 3rd jump as my analog needs to input direction to go backwards
So does this make his up air strings true? Like can’t the opponent just air dodge when they’re that high or throw a hitbox to avoid being roofed?

Can you get the training pack with a patched switch?
At the ledge, do you just dash back reverse grab or do you input something else? It looks like you're doing a standing grab but you're almost not moving back at all.
I might need to pratctice frame perfect reverse grab cause I always seem to move more than you do.
Press at least 1 frame of backwards, and then press a combination of shield/grab and c stick the forward direction.
Instant pivot grab.
I still struggle with landing the up throw up air, any help?
Most of your combo clips you have of greninja are not using an IDJ up air. You would see his double jump mark at the ground, and there is no double jump indicator to be found in most of those combos. A true IDJ requires an attack to cancel the first few frames so you can actually jump at the ground, with no attack you're just double jumping very fast. Until at 7:37 you can start to see the signal of a true IDJ but only that first up air on bowser in that combo was an actual IDJ. You may know this already, but just trying to help out.
My indicator is that he starts talking only if you don't get the true idj lol
How do u get instant pivot grab that well? I've watched a bunch of vids on it, and i usually either get a roll or pivot grab with too much backwards momentum
I think he talked about setting one of his taunts to grab
Dash away and then immediately hit grab and cstick towards at the same time. Requires a bit of practice but it's consistent

So just to clarify: do we need to fastfall the up air to autocancel on one of the platforms? Or is that just without the platforms?
Do not fast fall! Fast falling will put you into landing lag from the Up Air, whereas just falling normally will get you the autocancel.
