- Video of brilliant orbs in the evening sky has a mystery sting in the tail
A COUPLE from Barry are creating an X-Files stir with a video they shot last month of mysterious lights in the evening sky above Dow Corning.
Steve and Gill Ryan have no explanation for the strange sight they witnessed as they returned home to the town one night from a visit to their daughter who lives in Caerphilly.
Steve told The GEM: It was a Wednesday night, just after 8pm, and we were making our way back through Barry.
We got off the Docks Link road, drove past Lidl store and went through Cadoxton.
As we came to the hill with Victoria Park on your left and the junior school on your right we saw two brilliant lights in the sky we knew they couldnt be stars, they were far too big.
We drove down Vere Street and at the bottom turned left and went under Cadoxton railway bridge.
The couple parked on the far side of the roundabout just through the bridge, on Cardiff Road, and saw the two lights in the sky straight ahead (Dow Corning lights can be seen on the video to the left).
Steve said: The lights were static in the sky, and then moved slowly. Id describe them as brilliant orbs.
Gill quickly got her Samsung mobile phone out to record the sight.
She said: I put it on maximum zoom and trained it on the lights.
They definitely were not from an aeroplane or a helicopter. There was no sound and from that distance we would have heard something.
The couples son Jack, aged five, and granddaughter, Caitlin, aged two, were very excited by the lights, but grandson Kaiden, aged one, slept blissfully through the commotion.
The video lasts about two minutes.
At first the lights are stationary, they then move lower in the sky. One light disappears and then reappears. At one minute 45 seconds into the video a rather strange thing happens: three black objects seem to be shot out from one of the orbs, the first hundreds of feet into the air!
Steve and Gill dont have a rational explanation, and replaying the image on the computers at The GEM hasnt resolved the mystery.

I live in Barry and I'm sitting in my Mum's house. And I just sit there looking at the power plant one time. Then all of a sudden I saw that. You must have been near Dock View Road. Or further away from there. Pretty strange really. I'm always seeing these really weird objects in the sky in the day. No idea what they are.
Great clip. Interesting - it's shame you can't get decent depth or size perseption through a lense. Good job catching it on camera though.
All the comments prove one thing...it IS an Unidentified Flying Object!!! By simple definition!!

They are planes landing at Bristol Airport. I live in Barry and we can see them clearly when it is a clear evening. The lights going down are planes landing and and when they go up they are taking off. When the lights disapear the planes are turning away from you. It was reported in the Gem today that you would expect to hear the planes. I would not expect to hear them form this distance.

When I was about 10(24years ago) I remember seeing these kinds of light too, I was stood up where the master mariner pub is after coming out if the shop, I still clearly remember this but the orbs I saw didn't appear and disappear they were just there for a couple of minutes when one just shot off when I looked back to where they both were the other had gone, thinking about it I was looking down toward cadoxton school and the lights were further back than that so possibly in the same area as th

Seen two today over pontardawe and neath about 5 mins apart...two red lights came from one, the red lights went straight down one after the other...after they disappeared, i could see two planes at the same location about 15 mins later...the planes i could hear and they had flashing lights, the first 2 lights didnt have flashing lights and was bright enough to be seen through the clouds. one of the orbs took a 90 degree turn before ejecting 2 lights which were not flares, they were like neon red dots and went towards the ground. i phoned my mate who live two doors away and he came out and seen it as well...What was it?
I think it's a cool clip, but you can't rule out the possibility it is planes landing at Cardiff airport. As they're turning and coming in to land, I've seen a similar effect, though not as far away as this clip shows, from where I live, my friend even rang me to get me to see it. He thought they were invading! lol
I've seen these types of lights in california.. didn't think much of them other than how odd they were.. just two offset lights fading in and out at the same point on the horizon... shrug.

this was back last year stayED up late went out side sAT ON DOOR STEP and there was a large object over dow WAS long and SAUCER SHAPE coloureD lights flashing on and oFf therE smaller objects MOVING AROUND IT THE LIGHTS MOVED AROUND THE MOTHER OBJECT THE SMALLER DRONES I WATCHED THEM GO IN SIDE THE MOTHER OBJECT OR SHIP MOVED THE MOTHER SHIP MOVED ACROSS THE TOWN AND THE START TO FADE OUT AND DISAPPEARED
THIS WAS NOT A MAM MADE OBJECT OR A BALLOON I HAVE SEEN SOME THING LIKE THAT ON UTUBE AND ALL I TRIED TO VIDEO THE SEEN BUT THE BATTERIES DIED NOT POSSIBLE AS IT WAS FULLY CHARGED BEFORE THING STUPID IN WORLD WAR 11 THERE WAS A UFO PROJECT TO TO BUILD SAUCER SHAPED VEHICLES AND ON RUclips MAYBE YOU LOOKED THEM UP THERE SOMTHING GOING IF SEND PROBES TO WHATS STOPPING SOME ELSE DOING THE THE SAME
WE WOULD ALL STOP FIGHTING EACH OTHER AND WAKE THE A BETTER ATTITUDE EACH OTHER

Live in Rhoose next too Cardiff airport saw the same thing to the south over the channel dissapear to fast to be planes or helicopters truly strange

come on people after all the years of sightings i didnt believe but fishing one late in the mumbles i saw three balls of light all in nice line then they stoped and the one at the back rose above them and made a triangle and stopped for two mins and flew off very fast and then again driving through gendros at dusk i seen two lights the front one was bigger and higher travelling from loughor to port talbot and i phoned a FREIND IN A PARTY AND A FEW PEOPLE SEEN TOO.FLARES GO UP AND COME DOWN...

Some questions...
1) What's with the HARP for crying out loud?! Is that supposed to make it more Welsh?
2) And why couldn't you have walked forwards and rested the camera on that post that is in shot... then you could have zoomed more and NOT been shaking like a leaf!! What is it about amateur videographers that their BRAINS stop working as soon as they pick up a camera!!

Maybe flares
There is lots of UFO sightings in wales laterly maybe it has something to do with who ever is selling them chinese lanterns LOL. If you were out and about on bonfire night you would of seen loads of UFOs (chinese lanterns).
I believe in stuff like this but, it looks like those chinese lanterns.
