  • Brand New KOBALT 24V MAX Tool Goes UP IN SMOKE LIVE during last weeks episode of #tooltestsraw or #TTR where we put it up against the standard Milwaukee M18 (2625-20) compact Reciprocating saw! This KOBALT 24V MAX (KRS 124B-03) One Handed Recip Saw was brand new out of the box and still failed! Let us know your thoughts on KOBALT tools in the comments section below.

gotta give kobalt tools some credit...their tool failed and burnt up and they contacted Vince right away about looking into the problem and are going to send out a replacement...their engineers are going to take apart the broken one and see why it failed...not like dewalt who ignored four 887 impact drivers burning up then 6 months later they contacted Vince about why it failed but did nothing about it. Most other tool companies just give you a warranty replacement and say have a nice day....Kobalt did the right thing on this one 👍

I have had this kobalt saw for about a year and I love it. I use it to cut brush, trim small trees, and cut stumps off at ground level. I have put mine through the ringer guys and it is an absolute hoss!! You must have gotten a dud because I have never had one issue with any of my kobalt stuff. I have the 24v 1/2" drill, 1/4" impact driver, regular recip saw, flashlight, work light, 1/2" impact wrench, 4 1/2" angle grinder, and the one handed recip saw. I aIso have the 40v pole saw which I just used about 4 hours yesterday. I have never had one issue with any of my kobalt tools. They are great tools

He clearly wedged the blade between two lags using the lag on the noncutting side of the blade as a leverage point. It would have smoked any saw.The guy using it looked like he had never used a saw like that before.

I would like to say I have almost the entire 24v Kobalt power tool line and I just recently replaced my compact reciprocating saw (just like the one in the video). I did not replace it because there was anything wrong with it. I replaced the tool because the previous one was heavily abused by me and it is still in great working condition although I had worn off most of the over-molding near the front. I gave the old one to my father to use in his yard tree trimming and my new one is in my constructions tools. Since I purchased the new XTR set I won’t be abusing the new one, but still a fantastic tool, like all the other, from the 24v kobalt tool lineup.

I've watched this over and over and over again I am 💯% sure the failure was due to binding on the other fastener it was just to close to it and had 2 strong points of leverage and locked the blade in place and cooked it it still does not change anything on my opinion of Kobalt tools still my favorite tool line and will stay that way let's see this rematch

Kobalt killed it, I have both rigid and kobalt brushless sets. My rigid batteries will last a bit longer, but when using the Sawzalls my kobalt has more power and cuts faster through thick steel. The kobalt is a 24v with 4.0ah extended and then the rigid is a 18v, and has the 4.0ah as well. Then I have a few of the 2.0ah for the drills and small impact guns for each. The smaller batteries don't hold up that long, especially used on any type of saw.

I've used it only three times cutting PVC pipe and most recently 4" and smaller tree branches. Could I use a reciprocating saw for my outdoor needs? To me the reciprocating saw looks safer and easier to use, no bar and chain oil or worry about hitting dirt. I am determined to by something, currently I am hand sawing everything.. I will not be cutting firewood but some trees may be 3” in diameter. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

You're using too long blades on the PVC tubing. Watch the blade tips at 3:55. Kobolts blade is flapping like mad and Milwaukee isn't far behind. This will reduce the efficiency of the cut. There's a general tendency to use way too long blades for the job required. A 10" blade to cut through ½" material? Give me a break! My preferred blade length is the width of cut plus 2". No more vibrations than can be tolerated, and a cleaner cut!

Ghost Writer well winning or losing in the speed tests they were close, so in that aspect, either tool will do that job. But if a tool can’t handle some extra stress, you’re gonna end up fixing or replacing it often. That’s the deciding factor. DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita, and probably Ridgid as well are meant to do heavier work. Kobalt makes decent tools, but they’re more of a home gamer brand. Solid tools though, I’m by no means talking bad about Kobalt.

I think it locked up and burned up the motor. Maybe they didn’t lubricate it good enough.

That was Loser error. You cant jam the blade between 2 screws tighter than the width of the blade while smashing the trigger. That's a torture test, not a performance test, in which case you'd have to do it to both tools. Milwaukee fan boys, Kobalt was winning until that dumb sht happened. If you look at the 2 screws it jammed on, they're closer together than all other screws on the board. The game was rigged. REMATCH!!!!

Must've been a bad tool, or it got bound up between the screws and fried it. I got the same Kobalt saw for underground conduit installation for utility work, and it gets tossed around in the sand, dirt, mud, and always cuts, never has overheated for 2 years, even in the brutal heat of Florida. Don't sleep on the Kobalt line.

Seems like you all intentionally put the Kobalt between two bolts. The scene cuts in with you wedged in. Why?

I will never use kobalt again, there impact did the same thing,I was outside driving screws for maybe 5 min and by the 15th screw on the deck it burnt up but the handle got some heat and burnt me thru my glove, Milwaukee gloves but I couldn't believe it,brand new out of the 5 peice kit and charged the battery before use! Very poor internals I'm guessing!

Strange that a brushless tool burns up must have been a electronic issue prob overloading will not have protections

A few years ago my work bought us a brand new Milwaukee Fuel 18v drill/impact driver kit, and the impact driver smoked on the very first screw, and it was dead after that. Failures happen with all brands of power tools.

Mike Dixon I use them for my automotive side work tools they work well for that. However, I have been using their 1/2 drive impact the small one with 200 foot pounds of torque one for two years in my contractor work still working great.
