Doug was one of my all-time favorite Christian singers. If there was ever a man who could sing these songs with real feeling, Doug was that man. Sure do miss him!
Doug Oldham was second to none. My favorite was when he singed that wonderful song written by Gloria Gaither "He Touched Me". I get happy and homesick for the Homecoming when I hear it. Folks, Jesus is Real..3:16 says it all.
Saw him in concert in Des Moines . We took my 94 year old grandmother there for her birthday. He came to our table to congratulate my grandma. What a treat. Great singer.
Doug sang lead in the Glory Voices quartet with Ron Patty, Paul Clausen, and Ernie Gross.......they were featured with Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians in the early 60s
They all went to the same college, and in 1960 they sang for a youth convention in Houston. I was there. He came to our church many times. My brother, the same size as Doug took him to the local air post in a VW Bug if I remember. That was many years ago. I asked one time if they would ever get back together.
He sure turned his back on the Bakkers after their downfall, and spoke badly of them. Meanwhile they paid him handsomely for his appearances on their show.
None of the so called evangelical singers, preachers, etc. stood by the Bakkers. No wonder their hearts were broken. And many of them had scandals worse than the Bakkers. We are all God's children..
Not a Christian thing to do- make a comment like that - when they're not laughing at him. The audience were born-again, Spirit-filled Christians and if you never experienced this, I feel sorry for you. It was common during the charismatic days.
