  • I'd been having some issues starting the car this week and decided to look at the possible causes.
    The fuel filter was a likely source of trouble, so a new one was ordered via eBay and delivered today.
    This is a video showing the steps for me to remove and reinstall the fuel filter with very basic tools.
    The fuel filter that I used in the video is this one:

    Really impressed! This was my one concern to service a friends Kia. You have taken a excellent detailed video of the fuel filter change and given me the confidence to attempt this element of the service. A big thank you for taking the time to show this . Grandad Jim

      Cheers Jim, the most likely part that could cause problems would be the fuel line connections. I've ordered some fuel line retainers and will look into swapping them over in a future video. Be good to hear you you get on after the job is complete.

    Thanks for the video mate, had my 1.6 crdi for a month now and getting that water in fuel filter light so your video was really helpful for nailing the location of the fuel filter, im use to having a haynes manual to look at when fixing my cars!

      @@gtd65 Indeed! I watched this video and two others to help me understand how to remove it and its quite simple when you get the jist of pushing the lower section tab in and pulling the top "wings" out toward you, thank you again ever so much, now i dont have that dreaded drain diesel fuel filter light on my dash!
      I wasted two hours trying to get it out the other day and came to a deadend due to the orange tab as i feared about breaking it.

    I believe the Kia and the Hyundai i30 1,6 diesel has the exakt same engine. At least my i30 diesel from 2008 looks exactly like this one. I bought it a few days ago and on my way home it stopped, fired up again after a while but it cant take much throttle before it shuts down again. My filter seems to be absolutely clogged i can hardly suck any air through the fuel conectors on the filterhead, now I'm currently waiting for a new filter to arrive and we'll see.

    • @gtd65
      @gtd65  9 месяцев назад

      Hi MrJokkoma, I think it's definitely worth changing the fuel filter to see if that makes any difference. If you disconnect the outgoing fuel pipe that feeds the injectors, and prime the filter head, does fuel squirt out?

    • @MrJokkoma
      @MrJokkoma 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@gtd65 I'm planing of doing just that when I put in the new filter but for the moment I have everything out on the bench, I'm also gonna put a extern pump to suck out som diesel from the fuel tank through the fuel line before I attach it to the new filter to see if I got fresh flow through the lines as well.

    • @gtd65
      @gtd65  9 месяцев назад

      @@MrJokkoma good idea. Do you live in an area where the fuel might be contaminated or suffer corrosion in the fuel tank? My fuel tank, although rusted around the seam and leaking, was as clean as a whistle, when I replaced it.

    Thanks for another detailed video, I'm just getting into doing my own servicing and really appreciate the DIY angle. Too many garage videos skip the tough parts. I'm wondering, did you have to do anything major in the last 70k or has she been pretty good?

    • @gtd65
      @gtd65  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Adam, I've pretty much covered all of the maintenance that has been required in the 6 years of ownership here on RUclips.
      There was a factory recall for the AC condenser which was done free of charge (no repair video) and that (I believe) caused the AC compressor to fail which I covered on here.
      The most major work, I've undertaken, was the fuel tank replacement after it started leaking around the seam due to corrosion.
      I did get the rear passenger door replaced under warranty.
      Thankfully, there's really been very little outside of regular wear and tear or service items.
      I've got a couple of jobs that will need looking at in the near future, weather permitting.
      1. Partially blocked passenger side washer jet.
      2. Replacement of the quick connect clip (orange one) on the fuel line.
      I might need to look at the back discs at some point but will make sure I get a better grade that has a lower tendency towards rust! Pagid or Mintex seem to be fairly well regarded brands.
      Thanks for watching and if you have any further questions, I'll try to give an answer. 🍺

    The fuel filter looks different at top, the new had 2 o rubber rings. Any problems with it? It's because mine has two and I ordered one now from local shop and it only has the 1 big one. I'm gonna return and get the same with 2

    • @gtd65
      @gtd65  8 месяцев назад +1

      Well spotted. I also thought it might have been the two rubber rings/gaskets on the filter causing the problem but it was actually an air leak in one of the fuel lines, due to corrosion near the connector. See here: ruclips.net/video/pcHftbRGUfU/видео.htmlsi=zw3F4qZrpaA1H64w

      Если возникла проблема, на приборной панели должна загореться сигнальная лампа давления масла красного цвета.
