Asian lady beetle. We should call them "majin ladybug" because they have a letter "m" on their forehead, and they are more aggressive than ladybugs. Tell it to your son, and he will never misrecognizing them anymore.
This wasn't explained well in the video. I know that in North America the term "bug" is used to describe all invertebrates, but that's misleading (and quite infuriating, if truth be told). True bugs are a particular Order of insects, Hemiptera, with a piercing rostrum for a mouth. Beetles have mandibles and are in the Order Coleoptera. Therefore, all bugs are insects, but not all insects are bugs. Unfortunately, the presenter, Derek Kevra, seems to be just as confused. These "Asian Lady Beetles" are indeed just one species of Ladybug (American common name...bad name) / Ladybird (British common name.....even worse) / Lady Beetle (Australian common name....correct...well done, Oz).
@@cpa2788 Yes this is correct. Thank you. I love invertebrates and I hear people especially in the southern United States call EVERY arthropod a bug. Ant = bug. Spider = bug. Millipede = bug. Crayfish = bug.
Omg these Asian lady beetles were always on this tree in my childhood apartments . I always thought they were lady bugs , & I do remember almost all the ones i picked up had a yellow fluid wow that’s insane lol
Look into the lost ladybug rescue, they sell a species called Coccinella novemnotata, which is very endangered. It was once found throughout most of North America, but now only has pockets of population. You can buy them in larval or adult form
I mainly dislike the Asian lady beetles for their smell And just to mention it, I have tried to eat one before and yes. Tastes just as nasty as they smell. Ugh...

I like that.
The reporter is very animated!
....and pretty ill-informed.
Their jaws are too small to hurt most kids. A baby or young toddler it could cause a mild rash. Cant speak for allergic as no experience there.
Bug refers to insects. And beetles are insects. But don't say lady bug because they are beetles not bugs 🤨
For real. Like lol wth.

Did I miss it where you explained how to tell the difference?
Yes, the fluid is the main one
Thank you 🙏 🐞 ❤
He definitely tasted them.
I know, I didn't think he did before he said that lol
Where do you find the right lady bugs? Is this something that certain garden centers carry? TiA

My home "inside" is being over run by ladybugs , I know they're beneficial , but they get all over me and food . How do I get rid of them ???
If its what collects in window corners in my house ... its probably the Asian beetle, not a ladybug.
I saw larvae versions of them in my backyard!
I think I was playing with an Asian lady beetle just a few days ago 😅
Just came here looking for the difference and yep I’m convinced
You should call the Michigan DNR.
