My girlfriend Holly Sherwood was in Patti's band when we met in 1980. We'd all hang out in the village after their gigs. Then the two of them got a call to record some background vocals for Southside Johnny in New Jersey. That led to Patti meeting Bruce.... the rest is history. Holly continued on as a session singer in NYC and is probably best known for the Godspell single "Day by Day," and years of session work for producer Jim Steinman: a whole array of acts he produced in the 80s (Bonnie Tyler, Air Supply, Barry Manilow, etc.).... and particularly as Diane Lane's singing voice in the movie "Streets of Fire"....
_Rumble Doll_ is one of the most criminally underrated, underappreciated music works ever released. Just a wonderful, gritty, emotionally powerful album that should've been a major, major MAJOR blockbuster hit. Patti, you will always be a legend and a star to me and to those like me who appreciate talent and musical artistry!
Patty, the song you sing is so married to the poetry you wrote. They dance together with you... so honestly as you are opening your very soul to the lucky listener.🎶 Makes me fell like I am traveling with you. 🎸 Love, Robbin ❤️ and Thank you.
In my humble opinion, This is one of the all time greatest music videos!!!!!! I absolutely love it. Anyone who plays an instrument knows about that special magic of seeing your new guitar (for ex.) in the store window. "WOW! THAT's IT!! " I'm a lover of musical instruments. (and actually have a very similar Gretsch). This tune was part of her fantastic and totally classic album "Rumble Doll" ..and was probably about meeting Bruce... but it's incredibly sweet to make it about finding and getting a new guitar, and the whole video is done perfectly...bringing her friend to look at it with her before she buys it, and then spinning around 'over the moon'... and then playing it in the band... Totally love this video!! Great job, Patti!!
wrapping her nostalgic vocals(think Ronnie Spector) with the Petty band treatment, can't go wrong with that, she's a talent that just kept a low profile, miss that Tom Petty sound...great jangle to this song
@@bobloblaw2958 that’s harsh. Patti has a beautifully haunting voice. AND every singer song-writer has hits and misses. AND I have not produced a Platinum Album so I’m not in a position to judge songs🤔
@@md-1 I speak to this particular song only. I happen to love Patti’s voice. Her song “ Like any woman would” is an all time, very under known and under appreciated classic. Her voice is like honey and a smoky bourbon.
Let me tell you a story about a guitar just like the one in the video. It belonged to a good friend of mine. He played in your typical bar band and that guitar was his pride and joy. Well one night after a show where he had drank far to much he left it leaning against the building as they loaded up. I got a call from him at around 4 in the morning and drove him the hour and a half back to the bar where he left it. Of course it was gone.I'd known this guy for better than 10 years and never saw him so distraught he was crying like he had lost a loved one,in a sense I guess he had. We left a note at the bar and put up hand written fliers around the area offering a $500 reward for it's return. Then my friend did something that really shocked me he fell to his knees and prayed to God for it's return promising never to drink again. Well a few days later he got the call.someone had found it only they wanted far more than the $500. So once again I drove him the hour and a half back to that bar to help negotiate for it's return. The whole time thinking this was going to get real ugly real fast. We were shocked when the guy handed the guitar over and said he had a change of heart and didn't even want the reward. I thought at the very least we could by the guy a couple of drinks. I was surprised that my friend ordered a soda reminding me he had made a promise. 20+years later he's still playing the hell out of that guitar and still hasn't touched a drop of alcohol..

I like it Patti . you know who !The Elusive Kenny Brown. Come an play some time with me in Red bank ,NJ at Jamians on Monmouth st. on a sunf=day night ,bring yor brother too ,,we will have a blow out night rockin the town.
Her sound and presentation, and that of this group together, is sweet, crisp, ringing, vibrant, clear, uncluttered, breezy, delicious, on point, fun...all characteristics that are diametrically opposite those of B.S.
Is it me, or do you find having a crush on Patti like cheating on The Boss? I'm just a fan Boss, honest mate. Not hard to look at, that's all I'm saying.
Of course it would sound like Tom Petty. Its the Heartbreakers playing as her band. Dont you recognize a Heartbreaker when you see one? Or at least Mike Campbell...

Thought Bruce had found his soul-mate with the Rumble Doll, not Julianne. A lot of girls I knew back then, said he deserved the Beautiful Model, not her. I would just look at them, shaking my head. How do you explain that Bruce was not just any singer, that if they would actually listen, and know the words, look at them, they would know? Or listen to Patti? Then they would shake their heads. But some of the guys knew. Now they are done. The Split-Aparts have parted.
As the years roll on, Patti´s reputation grows. A tremendous artist, she combined that with being a very successful mum etc. A great life.

Patti's evocative voice paired with Mike Campbell's ringing rock and roll guitar ... doesn't get any better than that.
Absolutely superbly produced by Mike Campbell and wonderfully inspired by Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne!

Beautiful lady Patti Springsteen and red guitar loved !!
No..., nebýt Bruce tak ji neznám, čímž nechci zpochybňovat její umění, ale nějak zvlášť se neprosadila, před tím než si vzala Springsteena.
I feel lucky since I heard you
