I received a surprise today that I had forgotten about. Two AA wireless devices I ordered 6 months ago, one for my 2001 Chevy Tracker and the other for my 2009 Chevy Avalanche - both have phone charging pads. I upgraded both vehicles with Kenwood head units and soon discovered that my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra loses USB connection if you don't use specific USB cords. It took less than two minutes for AA Wireless Bluetooth to pair in both vehicles with no lag in google maps and Amazon Audible. Because I won't be unplugging them in the vehicles, I tucked the dongles away behind one head unit and the other underneath the center console - in either case, they both work flawlessly when I start up the vehicles. The Audible book playback starts up where I left off, and google maps are wonderful. The only hiccup encountered is that AA Wireless will not work if you have a VPN service running on your phone. AA Wireless uses encryption for security to communicate with your head units...the way I got around it was to use the split tunneling feature on NordVPN to exclude AA Wireless Bluetooth services running in the background.
Did you use Samsung USB Cable? I found issues when I dont use Samsung specific USB cable on my head unit etc
Best review I've seen on AA Wireless. Good job.
Pinch and zoom might not work on your vehicle because it is a limitation of your infotainment center, not the Google. If your screen doesn't offer multipoint touch, then pinch to zoom won't work because it requires multipoint touch.
VW Touareq CR with Samsung S21 Ultra
After testing a number of different brands of Wireless dongles, I was actually done with it, promising everything but only misery.
But if I have something in mind, it must eventually happen, so I searched further.
AA Wireless dongle should DEFINITELY work well according to its makers! So after a bit of e-mailing back and forth, I ordered it anyway.
Received the AA Wireless today and of course immediately tested!
Installing is very simple, just download the App in the App Store, then just follow the steps shown in the app.
I immediately updated the dongle to the latest software, that was also without problems. In the system in my VW Touareq CR from 2019, after the entire system has started, it starts immediately. Just a side note, I have a Samsung S21 Ultra with 5G for the connection.
So here's to VW and I think also the other brands of this concern, finally a working wireless Android!
Good to see another ZS EV owner w/ AAWireless.
My contribution finally got locked and ready to ship - can't wait to get it!
Just ordered 2 today for me and my wife. Hope it ships as fast as yours.
Great video Chris. Might invest in one of these. Would make AA a lot more convenient with the ZS EV. 👍🔋
Regarding your comment on wired charging, actually short top up charges (under 80%) are better for the battery than waiting until it's almost empty then charging it all the way up.
Thanks for the review.
Getting mine on Monday, hopefully it works on my car.great video
I feel like you may be right about the high voltage lines interrupting wireless Android auto. There are a large bunch of transmission lines grouped together in that spot, they look higher voltage than the standard power line but not the huge metal ones. There is a single spot I drive by occasionally that it always 100% disconnects, this is with built in wireless. I am looking at a car that doesn't have wireless and looking for solutions.
Really happy to see how well this works! May get this and test it out.
Thank you for this, I didn't think their would be a way, since GM only added it 2 years ago and won't allow us to even buy the feature
You cant "buy" the feature. It has to come already on the radio head unit.
Third time's a charm! Glad you got the jello issue sorted!
Nothing like shooting a video three times! 😉
How's the battery drain on the phone during normal operation? Also does the phone jump on the AAWireless wifi if it's already connected to say your home wifi?
Thanks Chris. Very thorough and clear and concise. I ordered mine in December. It recently locked so fingers crossed it gets here soon. Worth the wait.
For those wondering if you can use this on an aftermarket head units, I would like to confirm that it works for Sony XAV-AX5500 unit.
I had a few email interactions with customer support and they did said if it works wired then with a few settings on Android auto and their AAWireless app, it will work. Not out of the box but with patience and a bit of guidance from the app instruction it will work. The start up delay is about 15 to 20 seconds from a cold engine start.
Fitted mine today in UK Nissan Qashqai e-Power Tekna 2023 model. Ordered from Amazon. Fitted it and connected after downloading the App. The only issue I had was in the App troubleshooting page there are 4 combinations of LED responses. One is 'Solid Blue' and although the system seemed to working ok this is what I was experiencing and on clicking the tab I was instructed to clear the cache in the Android Auto app and do a couple of other things which implied that the 'Solid Blue' LED was not what should be visible. I sent off a problem ticket to the help line who responded by giving me some things to try. I reset and reloaded everything but still had the Solid Blue. I e-mailed the details of the latest results and was then informed in their reply that 'Solid Blue' means everthing is working correctly (which indeed it seems to be). I replied and suggested that their app probably needs to be revised.
In the video it was stated that a link to a list of compatible cars would be in the description. I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know where I can get this info?
do you have to pay for the down load or pay a subscription?
Will it definitely work in my MG4 because on the website its not listed as compatible?
It's great that the MG supports Android Auto, it looks like BYD doesn't at the moment. It would be a real shame if they don't change that when they come to Oz later this year.
Great video, Chris! My wife's using an iPhone.... Wonder how that would work out of she plugs in her phone?
This makes sense only for short trips or if you have wireless charging on the phone.
Thank you very much for your video. Everything worked out.
GREAT video! My 2015 Chevy truck doesn't have Android Auto. Does this ADD Android Auto or just make the existing one wireless?
There appears to be some lag on using the onscreen controls. Is that to do with the MG head unit or the wireless connection?
The MG unit - not the best to be honest! I used this in my upcoming IONIQ 6 video (out Saturday), and it worked a lot better.
Does the app need to be installed on broth head unit and mobile or just on mobile?
2:57 that's because your screen doesn't support multi touch points. i've got one car with multi touch that pinches but the other car can't and i have to use plus/minus
Finally got mine this week. I had to use the pass-through option in settings to get the device to connect to my phone/head unit. Problem is they say when you use the pass through option it disables Google voice commands.
Any recommendations?
Great video and thanks for sharing!
Hi, can i watch RUclips via the cars screen with this device?
Thank you.
No but there is an app that you can download on your phone and I was real skeptical because I'm not tech savvy and I have a new s22 ultra.. but it absolutely works.. here's how. Watch this RUclipsr's video. Cadillac Driven -watch RUclips and browse internet in your car Android auto AAAD, CARSTREAM AND FERMATA 2022
Does the light stay on when I turn the ignition off
Hi there,
I have some questions:
1. It lets you to play videos/movies from video player app of the phone or RUclips app while you are driving?
2. If you use car's GPS you can see it in the digital cockpit and in the same time to have videos playing from your phone in the central big display of the car?
3. You can hear sound from GPS and RUclips at the same time?
Thanks in advance!
To my knowledge, (1) no app allows you to play videos on Android Auto. (2) I wouldn't use my cars built in GPS system, Google Maps / Waze is way better - and no, video output isn't possible. (3) Nope, sorry.
@@chrisvanderstock I've seen videos on RUclips with "CarlinKit AI Box [4G]" (maybe they are more devices out there) that are playing video with Android Auto wireless... That's why my questions.
Well Waze and Google maps are good in general, in tunnels I found that de maps from the SD card of the car GPS work better for me (from my experience) and with my car (SEAT Arona FR). Maybe in other cars thinks could be different...
Thanks anyway for the quick response!
Yes, you can play youtube videos on your car display thru AA if you download the CarTube app; however, none of the video streaming apps will run WHILE you are driving and that is for everyone's safety, I suppose
@@nunyabiznaz833 Thank you for replying!
Is good to know. Having a kid in front seat sometimes can be hard for them and for us, if they have to be there for a longer period of time. Some watching to cartoons can make a big difference for them if they have to stay with the tablet in their hands or simply watch the screen in front (they will end up sleeping and I don't have to take my eyes from the road to check if that tablet will fall down now or in the next 10 seconds maybe).
That is why is important for me that feature.
Obviously I am aware of the risk that can imply having a screen showing content while driving and I think that if someone will want to see something it will always find a way to still do that. For me this is NOT the purpose of that feature.
P.S: Like everyone else I do care about my safety and others, at the same time.
How does it work when you are still connected to your house wireless router, while parked close to home? Does it switch to AA automatically? Thanks!
If your 12 volt system is on, yes your phone might connect. One of my issues when cleaning my car and trying to listen to music from a speaker in the garage is that my phone keeps connecting to it - solution is to turn off bluetooth, but its frustrating nonetheless.
Hi chris, just wanna check. Do i need built in carplay or without still work?
Yep, still works. Loving it
@@chrisvanderstock without built in carplay/android auto headunit. It work? I use it on my headunit without built in carplay/andrioid auto, aawirless doesn't work for me. Need help
I have ordered one last week, I have tried the 3 CarKit versions, but they all do not work, and when they work, they work for just one time, the next time when you start the engine the connection is lost. I need it for my VW Touareq 2019 with Samsung S21 Ultra. When I have installed it I will let you all know if this works!
Important: Turn off battery optimalisation OFF for all apps you're using in Android Auto.
Hi
Thank you for wonderful video. Dose it fit all cars that have usb Android auto?
Yes it does
do you know if its works with Aiways U5?
I don't keep my bluetooth on. Will this device start bluetooth on my phone for me or do I have to have it already turned on?
That's a setting in Android auto from memory, but it (and your phone) won't know either is near it unless you keep bluetooth on.
can you get youtube to work on the screen with the adapter?
No, it functions exactly like Android Auto. There is a setting on the AAwireless device (through the app), which says "video mirroring" but I can't get RUclips to run on there.
Hey chris.. can it be connected to any usb port in the car?
Or it has to be connected to multimedia usb port only
Multi media port (right USB slot in the MG ZS EV)
Phone call quality?
Hello Chris I Got A Question Will It Work On A 1996 Nissan Maxima And I Do Have Android Auto On My Radio
If you've got Android Auto, then yes will work.
can you download any app from the Android play store?
If its compatible with Android auto, yes.
Great video! If only they could hack into Tesla’s entertainment a lot more people would order Teslas!
if you said call instead of dial then it wont get mixed up "tell" as often
Geez goes to show how slow Android Auto was just a couple of years ago
Funziona con fiat 500?se ne hai uno da vendere fammi sapere
Can you play RUclips video on the screen?
It drains the battery extremly fast. In 2.30 hours the phone battery dies. And i need anyway to put it to charge
Works fine for short trips like 30 min max...
Does this work on Kia forte 2015?
If it has Android Auto, then yes!
This one vs moto ma1?
Haven't tried it, sorry
Support Ford ecosport?
If its got Android auto, yes will work.

I had mine for 6 months. Riddled with problems after a few weeks of having it. Got so bad after updating the newest version that it started disconnecting itself every 30 seconds. Then they allowed me to roll back the update to the oldest version and it still wouldn't connect unless I cleared my android auto cache every single time I turned my car on. Dealt with customer service for 4 months and nothing fixed the constant issues. Then they said it's android autos fault. I got a refund and I'll be waiting for them to actually create a working product before I buy again.
I feel like the phone constantly draining the battery on bluetooth would do more damage to the battery than it slowly charging while plugged.
Lol Bluetooth does not drain battery nearly as much and it doesn't drain battery if it's not connected to anything
@@exploringparks Bluetooth absolutely drains your battery. From my general usage I'd say bluetooth drains almost 2x faster than a wired connection.
@@Checky120 99% of people keep their Bluetooth on all the time. If you're not doing heavy usage on your phone and your Bluetooth is on, I can almost guarantee that your phone will not die by the end of the day. And of course it doesn't compare to a wired connection because the phones being charged while it's wired

I do have Android Auto and it doesn't. Piece of garbage.
Nice if you have $85 to spend on a device for your car. For the rest of us, simply plugging your phone in while you are driving does everything you could want, except be wireless which is absolutely not necessary for me. For long drives, I can plug my phone into power to keep charged AND use AA on my screen without losing any battery power on my phone. Either way I can make calls from my steering wheel so I can see no purpose to need my phone wireless while I'm actually driving.
Some of us make frequent shorts trips 5-10 min. It's absolutely annoying to take the phonr outta my pocket plug and unplug and back to my pocket just to listen to Spotify in the car
@@noob.168 ahhh you're a phone in pocket person.... I get ya. I'm usually walking up to my car w/ phone in hand and then my cord is right there as the only thing not tucked out of site in the center console.
@@nunyabiznaz833 same with the cable setup. But still one less hassle when I have to grab my backpack, groceries, water bottle, whatever.
I have a pitaka magcase and wireless charging. The cable is already in the charger and is easy to put the phone on the magnetic support. Adding another cable for Android auto will be a mess so I ordered one :)
Why did you watch this video of this clearly wasn't for you, this is an amazing device that will actually allow me to upgrade my cars wireless charger, this is a feature they can easily add to these cars
