    I was growing a 2-3 dwarf Meyer tree in a pot and the potting soil was pretty alkaline (8-9), so I used this product that said you could put straight on lawns to acidity the soil, It was 6x power vinegar.
    It pickled most of the tree.

    Thanks for the helpful information and video. I did notice the base of the citrus tree looked bare and dry. Having read that citrus trees have shallow rooting system so thinking this tree needs much more water considering its size and the amount of fruit carried on the tree.
    I would suggest a thick mulch around the base care not touching the trunk of the tree. The mulch will help feed the tree, keep weeds down, keep the soil cool and slow the soil drying out in summer.

I fed it earlier this spring with citrus tree fertilizer and some compost. Leaves look heathy. Has fruit set on it and new leaf growth. Trunk is maybe 2” thick at base by graft to 1” thick farther up. Any suggestions?? Thoughts?

Cut it all the way down almost flush with soil (not very clean cuts, unfortunately) and looked dead, but upon scraping the bark saw some green. Is there any hope?! If so, what steps should I take? I live in Arizona so I was watering every day per the garden center but the leaves are yellowing and falling from the bottom up and the lemon buds that were there have turned black and I have been removing them. Crystal Martin do not water everyday.
      Roots breath air, so if it’s always wet the water occupies all the air space. This is Drowning the tree.
      Mulch the surface with straw or a lighter colored mulch. (To reflect heat)Water like 3 -4 times a week during the heat. Soak it really well because it’s extremely hot there. But give a few free days to breath. It should never be dry, but it shouldn’t be really soggy all the time either. Find a happy medium. Make sure your pot has plenty of drain/air holes.
      Then I would do some foliar feeding with a compost extract or a kelp product. Or both. 2-3 times a Month.

      @@mrtrees665 I haven't watered since last Thursday because I guessed that it was over watered. Each day the leaves yellow more and more from the bottom up and the leaves that haven't yellowed are drooping. I am going to water it tomorrow (Thursday) as I wanted to give it time to air out. I have a composted wood mulch over it but it sounds like I need to get a different mulch. Should I remove all drooping leaves or just the yellow ones? I'm just finding it difficult to strike a balance, but I'm going to have my husband drill some more drainage holes and hopefully that will help.

    Hi there with interest i watched your video 👍
    I need some advice.. if a Orange tree 40-50 years old or maybe even older has most or a lot of it's main limbs (10-20cm thick) deseased due to brembels overgrowing it for years what is best to do?
    The top of the trees have lots of leafes and oranges even tough some branches seem deseased or half dead
    Should i take out all the deseased parts altough the shape of the tree would be very weird and not very practical? + in some cases pretty much the hole trunk -bark is open or deseased mostly lower branches are afected and some of the trees have a height of about 6 to 7meters..
    I would like to preserve and safe those trees in honor to the people who planted them.
    Thank you for your advice
    Regards Silvan

      It's been 3 months since you posted, but just in case you're still looking for options - look up "Gardening Australia" (it's a tv show with a website) and find their story on "skeleton pruning" for citrus. It's radical, but may be what your trees need as they are definitely nearing the end of their lifespan. Good luck.

    • @mrtrees665
      @mrtrees665  4 года назад +1

      CerulianSins I would not take anything Time release and grind it up. It is not formulated for that and you could do more harm than good. Azomite is definitely good but you don’t need to add it on a regular basis. Your soil biology and proper care will provide the minerals you need from what is available in your soil

      CerulianSins
      Never grind up anything that time release. It’s not formulated for that and could cause harm. You can use azomite. Make sure you cover the surface of the soil with a layer of debris like bark chips or straw to protect the soil and keep the soil temperature and moisture level consistent

    • @sho95100
      @sho95100 4 года назад +2

      Mit 2008 actually Meyer feed all the time specially in a pot in warmer climates. Osmocote plus every month if you don’t care about organic and epson salt once in a while. Remember that during the rainy season all the fertilizer could be wash out and the plant won’t have food to eat. This work in SoCal so I don’t know how harsh your winters are. If it gets below freezing you should bring that Meyer indoors to protect it.

    • @mrtrees665
      @mrtrees665  4 года назад +2

      Mit 2008 A Distressed citrus tree is going to try to over produce to ensure its seed gets out into the world before it dies. Do not let it set a bunch of fruit in a sickly state. Pull the fruit off as they form, unless the tree has a substantial amount of leaf development and a good canopy established.
      Ideally it should be in the ground or in a raised bed of some sort so we can truly develop the relationships needed to access what it needs most. Transplant if possible. And look at my compost extract video. That is something I would implement immediately.
      You can also feed with an organic higher nitrogen fertilizer like fish emulsion, or fish meal, blood meal, etc. NOTHING time release, NOTHING chemically derived.
      But less is more, consistent is best. Get it planted if you can as this will give you the best results regardless. See my video on proper planting coming up this week. Let me know how it goes.

    • @mrtrees665
      @mrtrees665  4 года назад +1

      Trogdor The Burninator Leaves curling in ward or looking like taco shells is a sign of lack of water. Or not being able to uptake water because the roots were damaged. The tree will roll up its leaves to try and reduce its surface area exposed to the sun and conserve evaporation from the surface of the leaf as well as catching any dew that settles on the leaf at Dawn or dusk to help itself.
      Make sure it’s well hydrated and the soil surface is covered with a layer of bark chips or straw

  • @12lzavala

    I think my issue is two part: clay soil plus overwatering. I am thinking of removing the tree from its current location and digging a bigger hole, then adding soils conditioner and compost to the hole. Does that sound like a good idea? The leaves are yellow, one even had a brown spot right the center. I was out of town during winter and Wasn’t worried because there was rain on the forecast and sure enough I came back and the tree had new green leaves on the bottom section. But now I am back to watering it, all leaves are yellowish.

    • @mrtrees665
      @mrtrees665  4 года назад +2

      12lzavala Your problem is not going to be fixed with that technique.
      Clay soil’s are a function of lack of air and a poor microbe populations, And fluctuating temperatures.
      I would bet anything your soil is exposed and clean underneath the tree for the most part.
      By covering the soil you will drop the temperatures to a consistent realm and allow organisms to want to live there while providing nutrition and protection to the system.
      The worst soil can be fixed by adding organisms and organic material to regulate and fix the situation. Compost and organic material is your best friend. Using liquid compost extracts and adding cover crops and a good layer barkchips will solve your problem.
      Keep in mind,
      Plants are not killed by too much water,
      They die from lack of air in the soil.
      Keeping the soil clean, pulling weeds, and removing native soil, are all creating compaction and pushing the life out of your land.
      Looking at it under a microscope it’s painfully obvious the direction we need to go.
