Affenpinschers could be described as cheeky little monkeys. In fact, the name "Affen" means "monkey". That isn't to say that they're naughty but a comical little dog with bags of personality.
Suzanne Pirrie of Roigaioch Affenpinschers has been breeding and showing them for the past 15 years and finds them an absolute delight. She tells us about their history, what they are like to groom, train and live with and how much exercise they need.
It's clear she is a big fan of these small dogs.

30 years ago i had a very small affe. He had one eye but he was an amazing tiny creature...he was a couple years old when his owners decided he was not for them. I miss him

I rescued one from Moreno Valley Animal shelter. He was overlooked by rescues since he was black. I adored him so very much.

Lovely helpful video. This video was the reason to find an Affen. Before I was not sure…an Affen or a Griffon. Since over two years I‘m a proud owner of one of this wonderful dogs. ❤There are small dogs but you can do with them everything, like hiking in the mountains….and yes, there are perfect gard-dogs👍🏻thanks for all 😍
I have one and have had him for almost a year. Frisk doesn't go after mouse however he is a bit afraid of them as well as water bugs but he does give me great joy.
Mine was HIGHLY TRAINABLE.
There is no bad in an Affenpinscher. 😇

I have an Affenshire, but she’s mostly Affen. Some of this is so spot on with her haha, she’s hilarious and has a huge personality! Her attitude is basically everything is her way or no way, she’s got a lot of sass lol. She’s very clingy and needs to be with me constantly. She’s still a puppy, and I’ve only taken her to fenced parks and she doesn’t stray very far from me. She doesn’t get along with kids. She has been very difficult to train. I’ve wanted to to agility with her since I got her, she seems like she’d be good at it. She’s a huuuge cutie pie! 🥰
Kidnapped one of these guys from my mother-in-law as a weened pup (she already had a dog). Her groomer bred them & had determined Egg The Dog, Swell Wonder Of The World was not show or breeding worthy. Egg was the best. Shared a path for 19 years.

Me too. He is the sweetest dog I have ever had. Loves to play from morning to night night time. I love him so much. He is 9 years old and acts like a puppy.💙💙💙💙💙

I have one Affenpinscher and there is barely any hair anywhere. They shed very minimally.
AREN'T THEY SO CUTE! ❤ I HAVE ONLY SEEN ONE IN A DOG SHOW. SHE WAS PREGNANT AND SHE WAS GORGEOUS. SHE WAS SO WELL BEHAVED. THE OWNER LET ME HOLD HER AND I HAVE A PICTURE OF ME HOLDING HER. I HAVE BRUSSELS GRIFFONS AND HAVE HAD SEVEN OF THEM IN MY LIFE TIME. CURRENTLY I HAVE THREE BLACK MALES. I LOVE BOTH BREEDS VERY MUCH, BUT I THINK AFFIES ARE A BIT MORE RARE TO COME BY. THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY LOVELY. ❤

My affenpinscher is so full of character, she could burst. She does try to dominate humans though, even though she adores us. It is a constant battle of wits

They just about went extinct during the holocaust yrs.
Mine caught a live, FLYING bird coming out of a bush right out of the mid air a good 4' up. SHE WAS AN AMPUTEE. They were bred well for pinschers.

I believe my sister has an affenpinscher mix... she's very small but her face looks the same but her body hair is very wavy, especially after a shampoo...and she IS Hella greedy... she'll eat everything but veggies😄

Thanks. Very good video. We sometimes have a noisy environment and heard they don't like that? I would love one, would be a first time dog owner.
My bitch is 7 and she is a lovely little dog. She loves being with me and the family and is very good with people but doesn’t like children and will go off and hide. She had knee issues and had to have operations on both which was very expensive, luckily insurance paid for it. But because of this we would never let her have puppy’s.

Thank you for this video it is very informative. I am considering a small / toy breed. I've always found the Affenpinscher to be very a very interesting breed, a bit silly and comical, playful, and very welcomingly clownish. If one would consider two from the same litter, depending on the litter interaction of all of the pups, would it be better two have two dogs, two bitches or one of each? What is the allergy situation? I have bad allergies , but have been on shots for years but for some reason I’m pretty sensitive still. I think I’m allergic to my fathers Brussels griffon. Thoughts ?
I'm about as allergic to them as I am to a shitzu (which is more than a poodle but I can still sorta acclimate)

How about Affenpinschers with children?
Affenpinschers are a good option for families with older children. Some younger children and toddlers have a tendency to treat small dogs as toys.
An Affenpinscher that’s treated in a rough way by a young child can become nervous and jumpy. Though the child may not mean any harm, an Affenpinscher can become frightened for its own safety and lash out.
