      The term your both looking for is "dissonant". There's dissonant minor seconds which are resolved (God I hope I'm not using that term incorrectly) towards the middle. The dissonance, to most people, gives it a more child-like feel. As well as helping to opening the hand up as a player with proper fingering.

    I suppose to some, particularly in Chopin's time, this may actually sound "dissonant". I've been knowingly aware of this work since I was a child back in the 1950's yet even then it never struck me as dissonant. My teacher was Hungarian and had me playing Bartok before Bach. It didn't really make me a better pianist but it did open my mind to the more progressive approach to appreciating music I might have had to wait till college to hear otherwise. Mimi, bless her soul, opened my mind. Thanks!

      @miguelfontesmeira6899 7 лет назад +10

      cedric robertson I think although it sounds modernist, it's very distant from that concept: it's still romantic. The romantic era is full of superb composers, like Chopin or Liszt, that explore the boundaries of the piano - they create and discover, so they are just creative. The Twelve Transcendental Etudes or the Twenty-Four Chopin Preludes, for exemple. Modernism, in the other hand, is not about creativity, it's about shocking and destroying the concept of art. To sum up, even if the Etude op. 25, n° 5 (or many many other pieces) could be composed by modernists, we always have to consider the intention and inspiration that lies in the core of the music.

    • @juliozimmerman1433
      @juliozimmerman1433 6 лет назад +3

    @raticida123456 yes I do know what dissonance is. my professional study is in music you know. maybe I should clarify...my original comment states that I was hoping for more dissonance to be presented in the piece than what it had. For me personally, I prefer radically dissonant pieces that is not usually on the top of an "average listener's" list. This is still yet very tonal. Listen to Prokofiev's toccata in d minor for example. That is the kind of dissonance I was hoping for :)
