- The PUMA IFV in War Thunder is a German Light Tank with a 30mm cannon that fires tiny APFSDS rounds. Although it boasts and impressive 120mm of penetration, the thing that really makes this thing stand out is that it's practically invincible.
With NERA and ERA covering almost every inch of this vehicle, HEAT-FS and even TANDOM warheads will do little to no damage. The crew are also surrounded by the components of the engine and transmission meaning they are extremely hard to knock out.
Overall, this is one of the most absurd vehicles I've ever played in WT. You can just W key your way to success! Awesome!

I would like to point out the maus and ifv puma could theoretically be used in the same line up only .6 of a BR separates them and 1 rank that means a WW2 super heavy can be in the same battle as a modern still in production IFV which in reality are sepereated by 54 years based on design starts

What's funny that it is still missing *even more* armor, lol. And most subsystems are still broken. It should be at least 10.3+ Funnily enough, with the right AMAP Armor inserts, it should be resistant to 120mm APFSDS over the frontal arc, at least thats what the manufacturer say, lol. Probably the only vehicle in the world that is currently better protected than the is T-14/T-15, lol. It is fucking nuts. I will just copy my list of whats broken from my comment under spookstons video, because i am not typing that again lol. Hopefully they fix this stuff and move it up. ost of it has been bug reported, as far as i am aware of. Here is the list:
-2 layers of armor on the UFP are missing (Edit: Seems fixed now)
-The frontal "exterior fuel tanks" are actually AMAP Armor inserts that can be taken out to lower weight for transport in a A400M
-LFP is wrong
-Sides are missing additional armor under the ERA and on the lower hull sides
-The front corner boxes are also armor (not sure if ERA or passive) not 5mm structural steel
-The back is missing armor (should be protected against russian 14.5mm)
-Turret is missing NERA armor plates
-CLARA ERA is missing its KE protection
-CLARA ERA on the Puma is only triggered by EFPs and insensitve to other attacks(such as KE), so it should only explode when hit by HEAT (More sensitive CLARA exists but is not used)
-Transmission is wrong, should be 6/6 not 10/5
-Reverse is wrong. It is not capped at -30kmh
-Thermals are still wrong (i think ?) should be gen3 (the forums found the actual resolution+zoom and angle)
-Commander optics is missing zoom
-MUSS is broken, should provide 360° by 70° protection
-MUSS directional auto smoke is missing
-Helicopter warning is missing
-PMC308 HETF should be KETF
-FCS for the KETF Ammo is missing, (makes it act like proxy fuze, can Auto track & lead Helis)
-Ammo feed is wrong. Should be 200 rounds contious feed, then reload from Hull ammo
-Gun feed is wrong, it is open bolt double fed. There is no delay between ammo switching
-Name is wrong, ffs. Should be "Spz. Puma" not "PUMA".

But no this is all publicly available info, as most of the subsystems can be bought seperatly to integrate in your own tank. The manufacturer literally offer you the data and spec sheets for download. And most of the armor info is from the ERA testing reports, industry articles written by the manufacturer or from pictures during production, maintanace or air lift, as you can get a clear look at the armor beneath the external stuff there. It is all on youtube.
I mean I'm not surprised by the warthunder version of this vehicle missing so many features, just reading that list of missing features & incorrectly modelled stuff that are actually fitted to standard Bundeswehr vehicles makes it 10.3 BR worthy right off the bat. Not to mention like 3/4 of the MBT's in the game wish they had even a quarter of those missing features...

i trued it in the test drive and its coax 30mm was insane enough to ammo rack the rear of a T10s turret and as a japan main i know it can ammo rack the side of an IS4 as you can with a Type 87 RCV. I think high tier germany just got mad OP

I have been playing the Puma at 11.3 and it still slaps people its amazing
So many people want to this going up in br witch i compleatly agree. But so should BMP-2M. If they are going to put PUMA to 9.3 they should do the same to the BMP-2M witch has lot more going for that the PUMA. Less pen in the autocannon but has 8 1200mm penning tandem missles. But we will most likely see the PUMA going 9.3 while Russian IFVs staying at the same br.
Maybe because the PUMA can actually ignore/survive a few hits from almost everything while the BMP goes poof if hit by anything? The PUMA’s current BR is embarrassingly low considering the APFSDS belt and ridiculous armor.

I absolutely agree. The BMP-2M and many others are a complete menace. I’m so sick of seeing whole teams of light tanks coming out of spawn! Lol

The first time I saw this thing I legit thought it was a hacker. He drove out of cover in front of our team, killed a bunch of us, and when he finally got lit on fire he put it out and just drove away.

Yeah I've been fighting them with my 8.0 bradley and it's a struggle only way to fight it Is in the front is by disabling the gun and active protection

This devil of an ifv takes a painful amount of time to kill with the a10
Best tip: Use APFSDS from the front to take out the engine or if you get a side shot it will most likely kill all of its crew, I run T-72AV Turms T and this is my biggest enemy since I’m always out in matches against germany
Hey @OddBawz - I'm late to the party on VFW video, but is there any chance for you to endorse the suggestion of "final version" of VFW on the forums? There was historically a unit which was sent to italy to fight along flak trucks and it had the same gun as the flak truck. If gaijin made it as another event vehicle, or even better a premium, more people could have it. And for the record, I have VFW and it's glorious, but it's also something that teaches shooting in the game really well.

You should play the PUMA again since it’s at 9.3 now, it’s gotten a lot tougher to use now with all the APSFDS being widely used in that BR.

Between this and the stab on the begal, germany won the patch. I think the Puma stole the show, way more fun than the A-10
And the Turm III which is actually great. The begal still being at 8.7 after the buff is a crime though. Both it and the PUMA belong at 9.3

I think MUSS is not working correctly for now. Devblog mentioned auto detection of inbound ATGM, and it seem to be not working now. This will be even more survivable when that IRCM works as intended.

I like it, but Type 89 is still much better, since you can also engage frontally because it has missiles. Similar pen on the gun and fire rate. They nerfed the turret speed though with this update :(
What are you smoking? That Puma is penning tanks the Type 89 can only dream of.
You completely forgot one of the best things about the puma, it has EXTREMELY good ERA and overall protection. It in many situations has better armour than MBTs

the pt-76-57 finally has some competition
Not gonna play WT until it goes up. 8.3 is now germany vs rest of the world and still they win. There are only Pumas and Begleits now, sometimes a lonely TAM. 8.3 is unplayable in every other nation than germany and this IFV is doing well even at 11.0... Funny thing to see this modern IFV with cold war shit aside
2 of the vehicles you mentioned are 8.7 but we can let that slide. The secret to killing the Puma is the turret... all the ammo goes woosh, and they cant fire back until they get to a cap and rearm

Because nobody expected it to be the most survivable vehicle at it's BR. The survivability is what makes it. Not the auto-cannon or the speed.
@@JoviaI1 has more armor than the marder 1a3 (which can already stop 30mm apds frontaly almost point blank), has era, nera, and external fuel tanks lining the sides, has an unmanned turret, has a massive amount of dead space in the back, and has a frontaly mounted engine(well known for tanking shots in war thunder). Tell me how no one thought this ifv which has more armor than any other ifv in game wouldnt have the best survivability of any ifv in game.

This takes more shots to kill than an MBT, it took 3 shots to finally kill this thing, if only them ammo actually exploded when hit would make it fightable when it's Hull down
i mean... shoot the ammo and its basically knocked out until it restocks at a cap point (if it doesn't push and bother your team XD)

@@thomasattard9821 Nah when you hit the ammo it only has 1 round left in the breech so after it shoots once after getting ammo racked its out of ammo

hey odd, could you tell me with what graphics specs you record your videos?
I know the T34 and King Tiger were uptiering themselves since this thing is 8.3 - but I really feel like RB needs to be balanced based on the years the tank was deployed instead of BR based on some weird assumption of its lethality (ie 1950-1955 MM instead of BR 7.2 [6.2-8.2 MM]). All of these tanks had their place in the threatscape of their time but the way Gaijin sets up the BRs you end up with tanks from an era where computers took up warehouses fighting things slinging shells and missiles with computers in the shell. It will be a PITA finding a system for the paper tanks and prototypes but I think overall it would be well worth the effort.
The PUMA in its current state is easily a 9.7+ vehicle. Gaijin just really missed the mark by a tremendous margin with this thing.

Im pretty sure the MUSS aps system is broken because normally the sensors on the puma would detect the ATGM and then the jammer above the commander's optic is supposed to swing around to face the ATGM without you having to turn the turret
but ingame this doesn't seem to be the case
