You could,maybe,try to prevent it,but death would hunt you down wouldn't it? Would you prefer to remain ignorant? Death gets us all anyway,why know the how. The machine,maybe,isn't evil at all. Just like Death isn't evil,death just does its job. So the machine,just like death,just does what it was design for. Curiosity killed the cat they say. In this case,more literal than ever.

Since Celestia and Twilight are alicorns, they would be the only ones powerful enough to bring their immortality to an end. i think the ‘act’ of will will be against whoever made the box. considering it pricks the user and takes a small bit of blood, twilight and celestial had to give up a drop of blood to test it which is all an enemy would need to become powerful enough to take down equestria, and if an enemy that powerful were to try and take over the royals would have to willingly give their lives to take the enemy down and save everyone. The act of willingly giving their life, but also the act of willingly giving their blood to the box to see their fate.
