Watching Senga as a Yankee fan makes me miss Tanaka more than ever. With a great Forkball pitcher like Tanaka or Senga your always one good pitch away from a double play. Tanaka was always pure gold in the postseason even if he didn't exactly have his best stuff that day. Unlike certain aces with 100 plus mph fastballs that get lit up quickly on a bad day
As a Mets fan, it's nice to see Senga have such a strong debut after losing deGrom in the offseason. Scherzer, Verlander (if he remains healthy), and Senga look like a formidable 1-2-3 punch at the top of the rotation! (Not holding my breath for a WS just yet obviously, I've been a Mets fan for long enough to know better than that lol, but it's cool to see)
Just wanted to say this is the first video I've ever seen from you, and the quality is outstanding. Love that you even included an audio clip to share the announcers reaction to the pitch! I haven't subscribed to anyone one years since I usually just rely on my recommended feed to find content, but your videos just have so much content I think it's a great way to stay up to date with MLB knowledge in with a relatively short time commitment. Great work!
Need those automatic balls and strikes sooner rather than later, 0:48, oof. As a Met fan I was just blown away by Senga once he got settled in. The movement on those pitches is just nasty.
Except for Senga, deGrom, Rodon, Anderson, Heaney, Diaz, Verlander, Scherzer, Stroman, and every other top pitcher on the market. Yeah I guess they just signed everybody.
All the experts who saw his pitch outside of the real game assessed that he would never make it in the professional leagues. But he continued to produce results in Japan's minor league games for the minimum salary of an undrafted entry. And he continued to produce incredible results after joining a top team. As the result,he became the ace pitcher for the team got multiple-time Japan Series champion then now joined MLB. Incredible success story of the crawling up of one’s life. He is the only pitcher in the Japanese league (even there’re good pitching players)record to have a no-hitter and win the pitching Triple Crown after starting at the lowest salary level. And he is also a Tokyo Olympic gold medalist.
@@mauromedeiros9084 He played 2017 WBC and pitched semifinal against USA. Japan was defeated but Senga recorded 16 strikes out that was the WBC record in a single game. He had been selected as the members of 2023 again, however he declined to participate in order to concentrate on his first MLB season that not started yet. Thus, he did not participate in 23WBC.
@@ユーザーA-u3d crazy to think he gave up the opportunity to win the classic to prepare for the season. Huge respect! I hope for the best for him and let's go Mets!!
First time viewer, love the show. If I could so humbly suggest, it would be nice if you kept the "Today's Topics" graphic on the screen as you're going through the video.
Thought about it but I'd rather folks focus on the pitches (the topics take up too much real estate) and the video is only 5-7 minutes long so it's not like folks need THAT much of a guide. I think it may be more problems/distraction than it's worth, but I could reconsider for longer videos
There are levels to it. Have to look at velo, spin and grip (forkball usually has lower spin and lower velo and the ball tucked deeper). But mostly it's what the pitcher calls it. In the US, mostly we call all of them splitters. In Japan, they use the term forkball more often.
The split ball has about the same speed as the four-seam ball and drops slightly short of the base, while the fork ball is slower and has a larger drop than the split ball. It takes about 20 turns to reach the split catcher's mitt. It takes about 10 turns to reach the fork ball catcher's mitt.
Love your content! Would you consider putting time stamps or enabling the user-fast-forward distribution overlays that sometime appear at the bottom of videos?
I might at some point. Time is pretty much of the essence in putting out daily videos so I try to keep that stuff at a minimum (plus they're only 5-7 minutes) but not opposed to making it more user friendly.
Yep. It's a camera angle thing. Plus if you throw a cutter arm side the trajectory makes it look like it's running but it's really not (the cutter spin fights the initial trajectory of the pitch)
Senga signing wasn't for him to become an ace. it was to fill a gap in the rotation so if he becomes ace, it will be a nice thing to happen, and if it not no problem
Do you think Bauer should have joined his buddy Clevinger in Chicago to make a powerhouse of a rotation? I personally believe it would've worked amazingly.
Those walk up songs were actually so good. I would’ve loved doing that with my teammates back in the day… as long as I got a good one if it was all random
Do you have the ability to put a bet on a pitcher to get X amount of strike outs in a game (over the course of the entire season)? If so, I would place money on cease getting 14-16 in a game considering we face the tigers a lot.
Who else was watching the game and thought "Dammit!" After 1 run score and the bases were loaded with no outs.. I know I said it out loud..great job on Senga. That was some nice work getting out of the first
Little kids shouldn’t have walk up music at all bc it’s just as cringe as watching those cringe walk-ups. Also those songs started when they were in the box…
Senga's amazing. It's so satisfying to see an ace pitch himself out of a jam of his own making.
It’s even more satisfying to not get in that jam lol
@@brendonbuffaloe8830 yea bc jams never happen.

Wha....how big were the barrels on those kids bats? They looked like mega barrels like I used in HIGH SCHOOL.
took senga at 8 to 1 to win ROY fingers crossed he stays healthy
Great pick--that was my pick too!
Keep thinking Maldonado's mask is a cowboy hat 🤠

Tim Merris had 4 K’s in 1.1 innings in his mlb debut
Tim Herrin?

I love having a splitter it sits around 800 rpm’s not surprised that American pitchers are learning it
Some American pitchers already have a splitter, a Forkball is an even deeper split finger grip.
I was gonna say, it sort of reminded me of a knuckle ball, but with some spin. They could not lay off it, that's what was most telling to me.
Joey Wentz and Springs went back and forth at the start of that game. Should mention him

Every time there's a clock-violation strikeout, a child cries out.
Ghost fork: Grim reaper with a pitch fork

Watching Ashcraft in person was awesome. Those cutters are so fast 😂😂😂
Smart for the Mets to not overexpose their secret weapon. I doubt he pitches more than 140-150 innings as a starter this year
Springs is definitely underrated and the Rays got a great deal at $31 million for years.
But they're playing against a talentless AAA Tigers team lol
