    Your painting was sooooo much prettier than the reference photo! Love the muted colors! The bluebell woods are so pretty. I love it! You should have a playlist of your Splodge and Scribble videos. They're my favorite to watch, inspires me so much on a day I'm completely not inspired to paint ❤❤

      Thank you!! I'm not yet technologically advanced enough to do stuff like that, but maybe I should look into it! I was actually thinking I'd quite like to group my videos somehow.

    I also have a photo album ‘ to paint’. I think both your paintings have worked out really nicely. The paper reminds me of the Khadi paper with its rough texture and ragged edges. I love the splodge and scribble technique, especially when you use the drawing pencils on top. Thanks for inspiring me to have a go. ❤

    First thing that caught my eye was the paper. Really love that rough texture, gives the painting a bit of a rugged feel, works beautifully with the subject matter. The painting itself is wonderful, love it when you add in those details. Keep up the amazing work!!

      I'm enjoying the paper - it's not the most hard-wearing paper, but it's very nice to work on. Thank you!

    I love the gritty texture of the bridge scene. The paper made the most of the paint granulation. I really like the violet black you used on the background hills, to me it looks a lot like the Dusky purple Derwent inktense pencil I bought. It's the only one I own so far but I just loved the color. I'll get a few more in the future, I like that they become permanent when they dry so they won't lift with my layers.
    Just on something different, I found a couple of sets of Faber Castell Paper Crafter Crayons on clearance at my closest art store. The neutral and red/pink sets. I googled around a bit and discovered the blue/green set at a bookshop up North so I ordered the three sets. I've never seen them before but you can sharpen them, they're waterproof, permanent, break resistant and great as a wax resist. Because they were also all on clearance, they were really cheap and I picked them up to use instead of Neocolor I's until I can afford to buy some. Two sets have arrived and I'm just waiting for the blues/greens set now. They're like those twist crayons for kids where the lead? is inside a plastic tube. I can't find any info about them on Faber Castell's website so they must have been discontinued quite a while ago. I also bought a cheap 16 set of kids Crayola pip squeaks felt tip pens. They're small and quite chunky but they're fun to mess around with in my new Art Creations 12x12cm sketchbook. Fun and unusual art supplies are taking me out of my art rut 😄
    I also found a box of New Zealand postage stamps my Mum in law gave me years ago. There are hundreds of them, more than I know what to do with, so I've pulled out a few that interest me and I've bagged up the rest to go out with some scrap booking papers and things for mixed media art and crafts. I have no idea who to donate them to though 🤔

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  2 месяца назад

      Yes, the Violet Black is lovely! I definitely want to use it more!
      I've not heard of those crayons before - sound fun though! They might help you be sure you really want Neocolor 1's. They are wonderful quality, but I just don't have much use for them.
      Do you have any charities that accept stamps? I know some used to, and then sold them in small packs to raise money.

    Nice……a lovely real time splodge and sped up scribble,😃 just love this painting and great subject matter ( were you on the Harry Potter train?🚂).
    The rough textured paper really added to the painting,going to check that out,is it similar to Khadi paper?I’ve been checking that out recently along with the Caran D’Ache Geneve neocolour ll’s, I love the texture they add to the painting. Really liked the bluebell picture too.

      I wish it was Hogwarts Express!!!! The train conductor was lovely though, and saw I had a camera, and took me to a little section of the train where the window could be pulled down, so I could lean out to take photos!
      I think the paper surface is less durable than Khadi paper (for example if you used an eraser on it), but it still takes water really well and stays wet for a long time.

    You know I love your Splodge & Scribble pictures! But I get why you thought you could've left out the ink part. They're two different paintings, and both are lovely. Maybe you'll have another go without ink definition? I don't get why you can't see how amazing your picture ended up, tho!! It's fantastic. Mx

    I quite like it and clever to use a squirrel mop. The paper, however, I'm not happy about for my way of painting. I think it was you getting it that I bought it, not blaming you, of course. It will suit some people and not others and I'm an 'others'.

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  2 месяца назад

      Can you explain what you don't like about it, in case others are trying to figure out if they want to get some or not?
      I don't think it's the most hard wearing paper surface, but I love the texture, and the long working time you get on it.

    • @WolfmanWoody
      @WolfmanWoody 2 месяца назад

      @@helencryer You nailed it with your comment. It's not a densely manufactured paper and working a lot of wet in wet, it starts to break down. Maybe the smoother textures are better. I did one on it yesterday, having been inspired by yourself, just a simple wash then I used coloured pencil and some tinted charcoal pencils. Yes, it was OK, but I think because I didn't overwet it first and work it hard.
      All in all, it's a bit like Marmite. 😆
