@@helencryer thank you! I’m just starting to buy nicer quality supplies and your videos are so helpful. Your art is gorgeous and your voice is lovely as well!
What a lovely video Helen! You got so many amazing supplies! I am so glad that you enjoyed my little gift lol I truly enjoyed our session and was grateful you attended :D Thank you for the shout out lol that is very kind of you. I hope you have a wonderful creative time, looking forward to the videos x
Hi Helen, I have that Rex Ray book and every time I open it, my eyes are popping out of my head! Last year I took a short workshop, offered locally, on ‘how to paint like Rex Ray’ and we had sooo much fun! We made our own painted and textured papers, using acrylics, gelli plates and those wood grain making tools. It was fantastic! Now I’m working on my own collection of hand painted papers to continue this exciting journey. Thank you so much for sharing your goodies with us. Cheers! ❤
What a beautiful haul, those watercolors sets and the whisky pallete are awesome. I have the Kingart 72 stick set, I love to work with it, but the swatch I made a year ago shows that most of colors faded different percentages, the color Rose totally disappeared. It was also pretty expensive to ship it to Europe. Thank you, Helen!
That's good information to know, thank you! I think with all of my paint sticks, that's kind of my assumption, and so they'll only be for sketchbook use.
Wow! This looked like Christmas. Wonderful, playful art products. Can't wait to see all the swatches you'll do and the playful gelli printing with spray paint...wooza!🥳🥳🥳🤯🤯🤯🤓🤓🤓
The abstract experimental page was such a delight to watch, especially since your joy was contagious! Also, I look forward to seeing what you create in your Etchr sketchbook. I believe that sketchbooks are made to be used, loved and to be filled with experimentation and creation. If you don’t like something you created in your sketchbook, you can always paint over it with gouache, acrylics or any opaque medium.
@@helencryer One thing to remember is that the sizing in the white Etchr sketchbooks goes off after a while, so once you remove the plastic packaging it’s a good idea to go right ahead and start working in them. It’s a use it or lose it situation. 😉
Thanks again, Helen. Love the silver Schmincke palette, and the woodgrain patterns look fun. I recently saw someone review gel sticks from about 6 companies including F-C and the King Art and she wondered whether they were all made by the same company and then rebranded...I look forward to your review that will include the tempera paint sticks!
Hi Helen, thank you for this amazing art haul 🙏🏻. So many new goodies to add to my wish list. 😍😍 I’m hoping to order the Rex Ray book after being introduced to him by Jackie Bernardi who is a huge fan and dedicated two of her RUclips videos inspired by his amazing use of colour and sublime collage. I watched the documentary on him too. What an amazing artist and incredible legacy he has left. Have a bit of binge watching to do on your channel to catch up on swatching supplies here and seeing your beautiful art. Many thanks 🙏🏻 😊 🙏🏻
I love your brush cleaning solution. You can make prints with the remainder of that texture pad. I got a soap drain device and found a jar that it would fit in and I absolutely love it. I found a soap drainer that is a rack of bars and I use it to let my brushes dry.
I'm a watercolor portraitist who became a popular street/graffiti artist, now back to watercolor. I am 54 & dealing with stage 4 metastatic cancer. I never imagined you were into graffiti art supplies 😂😂 I am so excited to know I'm NOT ALONE! Watching you play with them was so much fun 😊😊 Please make some videos of your uses of the supplies. 😃😃 I haven't used spray paint in years, and quite honestly it is outrageously exspensive. I can get a 10ml tube if Schminke super-granulating for the price of a can of spray paint. The tube will last years VS the spray paint might make 2 'pieces' of graffiti pop art on Canvas, cardboard, slaps/stickers, posters, pasters, or wood substrates. Watercolor is decidedly less exspensive 😂
Very sorry to hear about your cancer - that totally sucks!! I think spray paints are joyful, so when I saw the indoor ones, there was no hesitation to get them. That set will probably last me quite a while, working on such a small scale 🤞
Loved seeing this giant haul!! Hearing your excitement with the spray paint is infectious. I can't wait to see what you create with them!! Hoping to see more abstract art for your cut out cards, but also perhaps some abstract landscapes? If the landscapes don't turn out that well, you can cut those up for cards! Jeep up the wonderful work!!
What a haul! Lots of fun and creativity coming your way. Love the Rex Ray book! I’m off to San Francisco in mid-October. That book inspired me to include a visit to SF MOMA or Berkeley Art Museum to check out his art. ❤
Oooh that was an art haul! 😍 I'd been looking at those KingArt gel sticks myself, they're sitting in my wishlist waiting on a decision, along with some tempura sticks. So I'll be interested when you do your video on them. I follow Sketches 'n' Scrubs too, she's lovely. I love the look of Rex Rays book. You had so many interesting things today, that I've forgotten some of them 😂
That roller is what I used to use for making sure the borders of wallpaper were pressed down well enough. If you enjoy using it so much maybe you should take up paperhanging. 😂 I can see you creating some Banksie's in your town with the spray paints! Only teasing!

Hullo Helen, I got my first Paint Puck from a counter display at my local art shop and it was only $1.99 I have since purchased the 3 set for $12.99 a rather large increase but so very worth saving my expensive brushes! I loved the Schminke palettes they are always so nice! I would not throw any of those colors away! I don’t have any Schminke watercolor paints anymore. I have switched to DaVinci Watercolors of California as my go to brand and just cannot get myself to spend the money on Schminke watercolors. I know that they are less expensive in the EU, but in the US DaVinci are just the best. I have those same KingArt sticks and they are just like the Marabu sticks and are great for mixed media!
Yes, it definitely makes a difference having something at the bottom of water pots! I need to sell some of the Schmincke because I already have a lot of repeats of some of the pigments. I haven't used Da Vinci. Nice to hear you like them!
@@helencryer I have had small successes with e-Bay listings, but it is best if you already have an account. Wow! Just ordered that Rex Ray book! I’d never heard of him but I’m an instant admirer. Such joyful, texture-filled art! Thank you so much for introducing me to his work, Helen. Your excitement at this haul of art goodies is really infectious. I am going to grab some of the KingArt sticks! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I bought the exceptional colour palette (last time Jackson’s had Schmincke on offer ) for the palette itself too! But I’ve done the opposite to you as I’ve taken out the tray & used blu tac to put in LOTS of pans. I’m trying to put together a travel tin for a trip I’ll be taking next year & this was a really useful way of taking a fairly wide range of colours without being too heavy. I haven’t so many colours as you so I’m keeping the paint, though I’ve been a bit disappointed with the volcano red. After I bought that palette, I saw a QOR 12 colour mini palette on Amazon for a good price so I got that too & actually I really like it - it has lovely mixing wells in the lid & is smaller & more compact- I wish they sold empty tins too! Anyway x thanks for the video, interesting to see the king art sticks too. 😊
Yep, it's a really nice dimension pan for fitting lots in! I guess I can always go down that route if I change my mind, with my magnet bottomed pans. The Volcano Red is quite weak, but I'd like to experiment with making some granulating browns with it. I probably won't use it on its own. I'd love to try one of the QoR mini palettes (probably the Urban one), but they're sooo expensive!
Lots of fun products, you got there. If you would make a comparison video of the tempera sticks with those new ones you got, I would be very interested. :) I am leaning towards the tempera ones though, as you say they dry so quickly, and I'm not so bothered about blending. (I don't mind buying through a link to Amazon if you provide one.) That Rex Ray book is so colourful, I love it!!!
Oh what a lovely haul ❤ I never heard of waterbased spraypaint but they look so fun and if the odor is low I think I'd be tempted to try them 😅 The molotow dripstick is now on my wishlisht , it's exactly what I want in a quick sketchbook session. The moleskin watercolour sketchbook was a great disappointment for me, the pages where weird and the texture difference every page just isn't for me, the regular artist sketchbook line is my favourite though. I hope you enjoy playing with all the new things , they definitely seem perfect as mixed media combinations.
Brilliant menagerie of supplies; looking forward to the comparisons w/ other brands and new mixed media playtime to see how they work in concert with each other and choice picks from your arsenal. 😊
I love watching you haul videos - even if they often tend to get a bit expensive for me...just had to oder the gel sticks. 😂 I really enjoy that you always do some swatches/first impressions of the products. Also your joy about the new art materials is very contagious. 😊
Wrote whilst watching ! Wow! I‘m enjoying you unpacking your art haul so…..much! Like your books especially Ben Rays‘, & so much lovely stuff! I‘m oohing.. & ahhhing… with you. Have funwith it all. I‘m terribly/ horribly envious, but look forward to your upcoming videos with your latest works! ( I must add your chuckle is the same as my aunts was, ! ). The last set with holder, paints & paper is cute! Well it’s all lovely! Enjoy! Thanks for letting us share your joy!
The great thing about hauls is the moment I see it unboxed, I no longer want it and never click on a link to purchase it. I am a sucker though for videos in the field where ppl don't market their supplies. They just use them to create beautiful realistic art. Not hyper realistic. Just recognizable. That's when I find myself going to the descriptions looking like what was that. Where did they get that. So please keep doing hauls. My wallet thanks you😅
Hopefully on my channel I provide a good mixture of all sorts of videos. I don't know how much I would say I 'market' materials, but I learnt from experience that people will ask what things are if I haven't listed them, so it's easier to list everything from the start. Part of why I started RUclips was to show the differences between different art materials to make choice easier, though.
@@helencryer yes you do. Offer a variety. That's why I said I like your Channel. The more you show the less I know I need. Love it. It's always nice to save money and do more with less.
OMG it's like Christmas in autumn! Some great stuff here! I like my tempra paint sticks but I put the KingArt gel sticks in my Amazon cart because I like that they have a finer point, may be easier to work with. I also put the spray paint in my cart but I'm not sure I will buy it. Where will you use it? Would you use it on canvas with mixed media? LOVE the small cans and the colors. I am so curious to try them!!!!
For me, the spray paint is to use on background papers for collage, to mess around with on gel plates, and to add a bit of interest to mixed media paintings.
@@helencryer Thank you! Yes, I think it will be great for collaging especially when using stencils (way neater than painging in the holes with a brush).
This was fun, seeing all this great stuff! I go thru stages with art supplies, won’t buy anything for a year, then go nuts and buy way too much and more than half of it things I will never use. Lucky for me the closest art supply store is almost an hour away, it’s a lot safer and I have more self control buying online. I really love that porcelain double water dish. Great idea to use the dog food pads. That Lightwish WC set looks nice, never heard of the brand - such a pain having to unwrap pans, so it is great that they are just sticker wrapped…and a brush too! Hate the Moleskine paper, no matter what kind. Don’t get the love for the white Etchr sketchbooks either, though I’ve only used their cold press…that’s just me, though, I am very picky about watercolor journal paper. I just ordered the Perfect Sketchbook, it comes today, sooo expensive, but I can’t wait to try it.
I recieved my kingart sticks a week ago and was dissapointed that they werent as opaque as the tempera paint sticks. Hopefully i will learn from you better ways to use them so looking forward to that.
Great haul! I would be so interested in seeing swatches of all the spray paint colors if you ever felt like recording that. I want to try these open stock, and would love to see the colors. :)
I‘ve just stocked up on Schmincke paints but, here I buy from a local art store as ordering from UK is more expensive for me ( since Brexit! Customs! ).
Helen, I enjoyed the video! You may have mentioned it in a previous video, but would you mind me asking where you sell your unwanted art supplies? Thanks, Allison
I have a large plastic one, which has become really grubby looking, so I'm just going to keep it for acrylics, but it has great ridges built into the bottom, which I love using, so I knew if I wanted a new water pot, I'd have to incorporate some somehow.
Hello! Wow! Such a lot of fun art materials and books! Lots of inspiration from those wonderful books. That was so nice of Sketches to send you those items - she is so sweet and kindhearted. I loved seeing the spray paint art your kids created - that wall of hearts was gorgeous!! I’d be very interested in a comparison between the Gelatos and the Kingart sticks. I was wondering if you can still smudge them after they’ve been on the paper after a while like the Gelatos. Just curious. Thank you so much for another video!! 😊❤
Hi!!! She definitely is! We've had so much fun with those paints over the few years we've had them! Sadly now, our garden has been re-done and the graffiti wall is gone! Yes, that's what I want to test out too with the KingArt sticks!
Molotow have recently released more than 20 new colours! They are all gorgeous. I bought them so fast! Molotow markers are a staple for me, and they have the best colour range now. I have started renewing my swatch book, still a way to go. I have been busy working on a commission acrylic of canvas which is taking up most of my time.
I’m saving up for the whisky palette. Shame you didn’t swatch them would love to have seen them in more detail. I have the Schminke retro palette and wasn’t impressed with the colour range but added a couple of colours and it is quite useful
I’m guessing you know that the Molotov Dripstick was designed to be used on vertical surfaces so that it drips down. Haha I only know this because my son bought one in his art stage and had fun showing me. I keep hoping he goes back to it! Awesome haul, I wasn’t going to watch a video, but I saw it and couldn’t _not_ watch it, thanks for sharing! Btw, which do you prefer, the Faber Castel or the new King ones, or do you think there’s room for all of them?
Thank you, yes! Though I don't think that's how I will use them! I haven't had chance yet to have a proper play with the KingArt sticks, but I think there are pros for both - a range of different transparency amongst the Gelatos (I love having some opaque ones) but I'm guessing the KingArt are all semi-transparent. KA easier to get hold of. Different colours from both brands. They both seem equally blendable, water soluble and have similar laydown though. I'll do a review/comparison video soon.
Such a lovely haul video, I have always loved schmincke watercolours especially the super granulating forest ones. Also the kingart looks so cool and uniquely packaged, never heard of gel sticks before, are they similar to oil pastels?💕💕
Yes so many gorgeous Schmincke granulating ones!! They are a bit like oil pastels, but water soluble and not so thick and pigmented - they apply in a looser way.
I use a lot, some I share with a community group I help run, things which I end up using less I sell on eBay. I don't know if I'll ever stop being curious about new materials though.
They do have a smell, but to me it's quite mild. I worked with them for about an hour today, indoors with a window open, and it was absolutely fine - the smell was a none issue.
The problem with any spray paint is not the smell, it's the particulates in the air. That goes for water based paint as well as solvent based. A mask is still necessary and not one of those disposable things that everyone was wearing a couple of years ago. A proper particulate filter preferably with a charcoal filter is needed for all spray paint or ink or whatever. Just because it isn't toxic doesn't mean it isn't dangerous, it is. My intention here is to bring awareness, not criticism in any way. @helencryer
That makes sense - thanks ever so much! I'll wear one from now on, and mention that in future videos. I use a proper one with filters for when I work with alcohol inks anyway, so it's no problem.
Probably I'd rush out and get a Talens art creations sketchbook, some watercolours (individual favourites from different brands) and individual Luminance Pencils and Neocolor II's. But there are a lot of favourite other mediums I'd soon be getting too!
I used to love sketches&scrubs. When she started her art work was really neat. Then she began only painting those goofy fake perspective watercolor roses. It was at that point i stopped watching her. I always thought she was lovely but if I wanted to see adolescent "art" I'd go to any random preschool and offer them a dollar for every creation they made.
I love when artists play, experiment, grow and evolve with their styles and have the courage to share their ongoing process! I do the same and go through “phases” of style, only I don’t have the courage to share so openly.
16:15 Great sale spot! Molotow markers have replaceable tips, which together with their refills, make them excellent in my book. I use natural white (229)❤ for highlights in watercolour. I find itnless harsh than white. Mine is an acrylic twin, because it has a 1.5 and a 4mm tip in one marker 😍. I find this better than gel pens, which always dry out. Your awatches look amazing. I will be alert for the next Jackson's acrylic sale. Good idea abiut the lick mats, too. Very frugal abd creative.
I liked the look of the twin ones, but they didn't have all the colours I wanted at the time. I'm finding the nibs scratch up the paper a bit, so I need to experiment on different papers.
Jackson's Art have lots of Schmincke watercolour palettes on sale at the moment, in case you are interested:

can't wait to watch, but first, getting the coffee going !
@@impish22 😂 I need to go and get my dinner now at 10.40pm, now that I've uploaded it - it took soooo long to do!
Brilliant menagerie of supplies; looking forward to the comparisons w/ other brands and new mixed media playtime to see how they work in concert with each other and choice picks from your arsenal. 😊
Thanks!
I've seen those Kingart gel sticks in TK Maxx over here in England
I need to have a good play with them, and figure out if I think they're worth it!
Thanks for sharing your wonderful haul! ❤
I love watching you haul videos - even if they often tend to get a bit expensive for me...just had to oder the gel sticks. 😂 I really enjoy that you always do some swatches/first impressions of the products. Also your joy about the new art materials is very contagious. 😊
Thanks!
Frugal crafter has just done a very interesting review on those lightwish paints, well worth a watch.
The brush is a natural hair mix, just incase you were wondering 😊
Thank you! I'll check it out!
The brush was great and I suspected as much. Too much to hope that it would be a synthetic squirrel ☹️
Haha, thanks! Yes - I feel exceptionally lucky to receive a lot of it for free!
@@helencryer It May be gratis but, you‘ve worked for it with your super films, photos, art works etc… Definitely earned. Keep chuckling.
@@valeriegehling4358 You're very kind, thank you!
@@helencryer If I lived nearer I‘d let you lend me your art things! That’s how kind I am!hi,hi….
Love it!!
I'd love to see a tempera stick/Kingart/Gelato/Neocolor 2 comparison video! I subscribed so I don't miss that video if you should make it. 😊
Thanks so much!!
I just put a new video on that, here:

Hi Helen, me again 😊
Try those shimmery and interference MeiLiang watercolors paints on black paper, see if that makes a difference. Thanks again!
Ooo, good suggestion, thank you!
Your sounds of glee were so cute 😅
I'm afraid I'm such a kid when it comes to art materials!
The markel paint sticks are oil based so I use them with my other oil sticks and they dry
That's great, thanks!
Genius use of pet lick pads! LOVE
Haha, thanks!
Wow - a whole bunch of great art supplies! Now I want them all. If I only had the money to buy them... 😂
Great to hear your thoughts, thank you!
I'd love to hear how you get on with the Perfect Sketchbook! I really like the Etchr Everyday Sketchbooks!
I recieved my kingart sticks a week ago and was dissapointed that they werent as opaque as the tempera paint sticks. Hopefully i will learn from you better ways to use them so looking forward to that.
Yes, I'd definitely have liked more opacity, but really like the texture of them for blending. I'll have a good play with them soon.
Great haul! I would be so interested in seeing swatches of all the spray paint colors if you ever felt like recording that. I want to try these open stock, and would love to see the colors. :)
I will do!
Oooohhh love love your swatch cards ! ❤
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing.
You mean Paul Reubens is simular to lightwish. This set up began with lightwish / superior / semiart
I don't know if they're similar or not - I haven't properly tried the Lightwish ones yet.
I recommend that you check out Lindsay Weirich (The Frugal Crafter)’s review of the Lightwish set - very interesting info!
Thank you!!
Do you have to use a wet brush with them and paint with them? They do an excellent job, like watercolors paint
Sorry, are you referring to the KingArt sticks?
Another fun video!
My favourites are Schmincke paints & the whiskey tin is on my „wish list“, lucky you. Like
I‘ve just stocked up on Schmincke paints but, here I buy from a local art store as ordering from UK is more expensive for me ( since Brexit! Customs! ).
Don't talk to me about Brexit!! I did NOT want it, and am still sad about it!
(But I'm glad you have some lovely Schmincke paints!!)
The King Art Gel sticks also can be used with a water brush :)
Great - thanks!
Just love your videos! You inspire me ❤
Thanks!
Helen, I enjoyed the video! You may have mentioned it in a previous video, but would you mind me asking where you sell your unwanted art supplies? Thanks, Allison
On eBay!
I have the ceramic water pot (it’s a heavy one isn’t it!). I hadn’t thought of putting little pads in the bottom. What a great idea
I have a large plastic one, which has become really grubby looking, so I'm just going to keep it for acrylics, but it has great ridges built into the bottom, which I love using, so I knew if I wanted a new water pot, I'd have to incorporate some somehow.
New subscriber❤ Looking forward to learning more.
That's very kind of you, thank you!
Hello!
My fave paper for Molotow is Hahnemuhle watercolour (toned or white)
Thanks ever so much for showing them on your Instagram!
I’m saving up for the whisky palette. Shame you didn’t swatch them would love to have seen them in more detail. I have the Schminke retro palette and wasn’t impressed with the colour range but added a couple of colours and it is quite useful
Sorry about that - I can't really justify keeping paints I already have such close ones to.
@@helencryer aww thanks so much for explaining the kingart gels they sound cool might definitely have to invest 💕💕🎨🎨
Someone said in the comments that they're not lightfast though (which I tend to assume with kids supplies), forgot to mention.
Hi Helen, thats a massive amount of supplies. Do you use all the products or they get donated over time?
I use a lot, some I share with a community group I help run, things which I end up using less I sell on eBay. I don't know if I'll ever stop being curious about new materials though.
The watercolor crayons by Marabu look exactly like the king art sticks. Are the king art sticks fully water-soluble?
I haven't had enough of a play with them yet, sorry!
Do the spray paints have a strong smell? I like the effects you can get from them!
Please list the sketchbooks what was the white one?
Hi, it's listed in the description below the video - the Etchr Hot Pressed.
I’m curious, if you lost all your art supplies, which ones would you repurchase first?
Probably I'd rush out and get a Talens art creations sketchbook, some watercolours (individual favourites from different brands) and individual Luminance Pencils and Neocolor II's. But there are a lot of favourite other mediums I'd soon be getting too!
Amazing video!
Thanks!
Hello you, this is exciting! 😂
@@racechick2033 Hiya! It doesn't take much for me to be excited though, as we know!!
@@helencryerAdded Lightwish set to my basket. I like that they are mostly single pigments. And they're affordable. ❤

14:49 White square 🧐?
Just covering my address on the invoice.
@@helencryer I thought as much.
I'm not technologically advanced enough to do stuff like blurring!
Interesting things.... Ahhhh I must stop buying however... But Thx
It should go without saying that no one will make art that everyone else loves, all the time. Is a person doing what THEY love? Good for them!
Good to know. Molotow has replaceable nibs too just in case. @@helencryer
Thanks, yes, that's great!
