  • I eat in and explore the Chicago neighborhood of Wicker Park. I have breakfast at Kasama, which is the world’s first, Michelin Starred Filipino restaurant. Then, I walk around the park of Wicker Park. Next, I showcase the speakeasy cocktail bar, The Violet Hour, which has won a James Beard Award and been listed among the best bars in the country. After that, I go for a walk on The 606 Trail before having lunch at Piece Brewery & Pizzeria, which is one of the best pizza restaurants in Chicago. Then, I shop at the massive used bookstore, Myopic Books. Finally, I have coffee at The Wormhole, an 80s themed coffee shop.

    I love a neighbourhood with a variety of coffee shops. I loved working in Liberty Village in the west end of downtown Toronto, where there were at least a dozen places to get coffee. An the Starbucks was conveniently nexty door to the LCBO (liquor store)...

      Same here! To me, a neighborhood with a variety of coffee shops is a sign that it's a great place to be.

    It would be nice to see a Chicago playlist. I noticed even with a search some of your Chicago videos did not come up. Would love to see a video of Kasama’s tasting menu one day. Thanks for the Wicker Park tour. 😊

    I see a lot of similarities with NYC and Chicago. But at the same time Chicago is also very unique with it's own rich history and personality, distinct from any other city in the lower 48. Glad that we have James here, to introduce us to some many hidden gems within the city (bookstores, cafes, places of interest, etc). I have developed a newfound appreciation for Chicago thanks to your Chicago Video series. I enjoy that as much as your NYC videos 🙂. These videos help to reveal the true charm of Chicago, only a true local would know. Thanks again James!

      Thank you! I appreciate it! While I call NYC home now, Chicago will always be a special place to me. It's definitely a lot like NYC. I think anyone from New York would enjoy Chicago. It's really one of those cities that has pretty much anything one could want from food to culture.

      @@Jamesnu Totally agree. Anyone that appreciates good food and culture, well Chicago and NYC is the place to be! And Los Angeles / San Francisco as a distant 3rd and 4th. But America as a whole is so diverse and hands down the most interesting country on Planet Earth.

      In my opinion Chicago area has elements of NYC and Philly but the noticeable difference is that people are nicer so there’s that Midwest hospitality thrown in. In my opinion, the most fascinating thing about Chicago is the severe brutal winter where it literally feels like another planet. When Lake Michigan turns to ice, it’s very unique and beautiful

    So I've never been to Chicago, but I know it to be a huge foodie town! I need to get there! There was a restaurant called "Wicker Park" on the UES, E83 / Third. Don't know if it's still there. That breakfast looked absolutely phenomenal, and you're a coffee addict like me 😂 (my boss laughs at me, there's a tiny Sicilian restaurant next to my job, and I'll run and get a shot of espresso mid day... Now he's doing it too) Oh, I dig the aviator sunglasses!

    • @Jamesnu
      @Jamesnu  Год назад +1

      Thank you! Yeah, the food scene in Chicago is great! Like NYC, it has a bit of everything. Yeah, I can't live without coffee. I literally plan my day around when I usually drink coffee. I know what you mean about getting a shot of espresso in the middle of the day, my work would suffer if I didn't get my midday caffeine hit as well.

    I plan to visit Chicago someday in the near future and will definitely look for your Chicago videos for helpful references. I mainly drive up and down the east coast and have been around somewhat but I rarely ever fly because I dislike flying. I've flown to Italy and Mexico but I rarely leave the east coast. I think I'd be able to handle a quick 2 hour flight to Chicago and it's a pizza town that I just have to experience. Loved the video and your eloquent narration. Chicago is one of the top pizza cities in the world for sure.
