Your 160whp is very similar to my 168whp in my gsxr1000 Locost with the Miata rear subframe and differential. Very similar setups. Can’t wait for the turbo build.
@@ReedMakeCar I normally use a 3.63:1 gearset from an overseas Mazda 323. The car tops out at 122 mph at 14.2K rpm with that ratio. @@ReedMakeCar I ran a 4.1 for a while and the 9K rpm highway cruising was pretty terrible. How does your car do with a launch on the 3.3 ring and pinion?
Now this is the type of Miata content I’ll actually watch. Every other Miata I see makes me want to barf because it’s nearly the same type of build over and over again. This is something that’s actually different and I like it!
I REALLY want to see this car with a full exhaust system and a hood scoop to hide the engine. You could drive around below 6000RPM, then surprise people as it just keeps revving and revving to the moon
You can try one of this engine powering the front tyres and the other the rear tyres since the engine is small, lightweight and doesn't drink much gas. Turboing a high RPM engine might damage it unless you're thinking about strengthening the engine...
This is what i come to RUclips for. This is amazing, hope you take it further! Lots of aftermarket support and engine options for motorcycles in general. Would be sick to see a miata with an H2 motor or built 1000-1400 motor.
Yes! I just found your channel. I've always thought it would be cool to put a liter+ bike motor in a miata. I can't wait to see what it does with boost. When it's all said and done I'd love to see a colab with another channel where there is some head-to-head with both stock and other builds. Currently putting a K24z3 in my NA.

Thats great, love the build. I always wanted a motorcycle power car. I wanted a v8 hybusa engine power car with the itb velocity stack sticking out the hood on my na miata
@@georgestam1710 Why? Horsepower = Torque x revolutions. So you can have twice the torque, but if the maximum revs are the half, it is the same outcome.
I love your build, the only thing im not super stoaked on is the plastic intake coming through the hood and the way the hood flaps, but that could change with a new intake setup :;)
I think a longer runner intake should be something that helps a lot to boost mid RPM torque, and as you are already making power 2k before limiter, it should also spread better the power curve when you put the turbo, what rear gearing are you running? Longer runner + a shorter diff ratio should also help in acceleration, same issue Rob Dahm had with the rotary C5, not enough gearing to take advange of the RPM available for that transaxle But there is a lot more gearing optoons for Miatas, or a 8.8 when you boost it
I dont know the aftermarket for Miata diff is, a quick google told me that the shortest would be a 4.3 ratio, thats still too long for that RPM band, with a 8.8 conversion you can go all the way to a 5.14, that should make the car way quicker with the applied torque at the wheel, I can help you desing and 3D print some longer thrumpet runners to spread that power band and make it More efficient in preparation for the turbo Some people critizice the “merely 160hp” but dont understand how acceleracion and gearing works
Small point, don't shift at peak horsepower for peak acceleration. The only way to know accurate shift points is to put your gearing, rpm, and torque numbers into a calculator to find out. For perspective my car makes 375whp at peak power around 6400rpms, but in 1-4 gears it makes sense to rev it to 7800rpms for peak acceleration.
I don’t think it needs a turbo, man. You built that nice high flow header. I think a turbo would make too much power for the amount of traction you have or can really get out of that car. Do some engine mods and tuning. That car would SCOOT like you wouldn’t believe with 220rwhp! Especially if you have it down to 1,500 pounds. A 3000 pound car with a super wide power band at only an average of 215whp can run high 12’s. I’ve done it myself. Your Miata would almost be sickeningly fast with a bit over 200rwhp. I’d concentrate on getting it to make power all the way to the 13,000RPM red line. You’d likely gain 20rwhp peak getting it to keep climbing all the way up to 13,000.
Why not adjust the car suspension for the weight change ? Possibly use same springs FR from Spec Miata - Coil overs with Koni Shocks set-up for those springs Spec Miata springs - Lower the front !! Hoosier A7 tires on 10 inch rims
While I do agree that bike swapping light cars for a fourth or fifth car is fun, the lack of low down torque would drive me nuts. If you get the right FD that enables you to pull from a standstill in a reasonable manner, it is undrivable at high speeds sue to insane noise. That's however irrelevant if it comes to just having fun sometimes :) a turbo will surpsingly help you very much on the driveability department.
160 horsepower is the same amount of horsepower as a 3 liter V6 of the 90s. Of course the V6 would have quite a bit more torque but I believe you that it feels quick because my 94 Maxima that had 160 horsepower was much heavier and it wasn't slow and it was mated to an automatic transmission.
