      This is so true! I haven't been officially diagnosed but I most likely have bpd (borderline personality disorder). I haven't seeked help because I am scared that something will happen to me. Even though I know that many people also feel scared, they should always seek help if they can.

    Oh damn.. When they first diagnosed her bipolar, I was like what? I'm bipolar and don't hear voices. The multiple personalities diagnosis makes more sense in her case and I hope she's doing well. Talking to someone does help. Trauma therapy helped me uncover and face a lot of my own demons. If you're struggling, please speak up. The only way to get better is to want to get better and make the effort.

      Well actually, it tends to often take people years to get diagnosed with DID. No matter how obvious or subtle the symptoms are, it seems it takes quite a long time for people to get a proper diagnosis, even if it's clear as day they have it. I don't really know the reasons why, but my guess is: they either need to rule out most other potential diagnoses and problems, and even then they need to basically be 100% certain. Some may not even believe in the disorder, even though it is classified as a recognised disorder.
      Another reason might be that some systems can be very, very subtle. The blackouts suggest a dissociation disorder, but could for example be Dissociative Amnesia. D.I.D systems are often created to be subtle in nature, since they were created to survive, and having it be less subtle could've been dangerous at the time.
      I hope that cleared up some things. Feel free to comment on anything I've said. :)

    • @Super.AmmarI0
      @Super.AmmarI0 4 года назад +3

      @@thegamerpokemon5767
      1) "they need to rule out most other potential diagnoses" These are the main 3 disorders that they should test for first and can be easily distinguished with multiple screenings e.g eye tracker etc...
      2)"some may not even believe in the disorder" well, they certainly shouldn't be psychiatrists or doctors of any form should they?
      3) "disassociative amnesia" there are multiple tests to distinguish between the two.

    • @thegamerpokemon5767
      @thegamerpokemon5767 4 года назад +2

      @@Super.AmmarI0 1.1) True, but don't forget: people who have DID most likely don't even realise their own symptoms are unusual or even there until years later. That makes it difficult to diagnose, since they might not meet all the criteria from what they know.
      1.2) A lot of people with DID tend to struggle from other disorders such as Depression, Eating disorders and PTSD/CPTSD due to their abuse. This can make the lines really blurry between some disorders, and harder to pinpoint if is DID.
      1.3) Someone with DID most often have a lot of repressed memories. For a lot of them, they might grow up thinking they had very normal childhoods, when in fact, the horrid things happened to them. Since one of the criteria is to have suffered repeated trauma before the ages of 7-9, if they don't know they have childhood trauma, that can sometimes not be met.
      2) That's the problem though. They are psychiatrists. In different countries, or even within one country, there are psychiatrists who aren't trained the best, or ignores DID, since they might have been taught in their training that it is a "fake disorder". Especially clinics that aren't very well supervised tend to have this problem more often.
      3) There is. You're correct. However, if the most obvious sign is "prolonged black-outs", that might be a potential diagnosis, which is why they need to make sure to find things to either confirm or deny this. OSDD (Otherwise Specificed Dissociation Dissorder) is also almost like a less severe form of DID, and thus they have to rule out this possibility too.
      However, keep in mind, that these are mainly just educated guesses and speculations from what I know. I still don't think if should take that long, especially for someone with very obvious systems.

    Trigger warning:
    I’m currently on the waiting list to be assessed for DID/dissociative disorders, and let me tell you it is NOT this simple. Back in January, I had a suicide attempt. But I have no recollection of the event whatsoever. Ever since I was little, I’ve had these imaginary friends. There were all different sorts of them, some were nice, while others were mean. Every child at some point I think has had imaginary friends, but the weird part is that they never left. They still talk to me in my head. Sometimes, they can come out and do things for me, like they’re taking over and helping me. My psychologist doesn’t know what’s going on, so she encouraged me to find a dissociative specialist. It’s been almost a year. I’m constantly told that what I’m feeling doesn’t exist, and that I’m doing it for attention subconsciously. But it’s so real...

      I'm guessing she doesn't want to reveal that. Talking about trauma whilst having a trauma disorder can get very triggering, and outright cause massive conflict within your own head depending on what disorder.
      Either that, or she might not even remember. Trauma can cause you to forget obvious details, whilst reliving the events vividly through flashbacks. It might also be the case that her other personalities keep it hidden from her, as a safety mechanism. Especially if it's a close relative or someone who you still interact with, it can be unsafe for you, the "host" (I persume), to know who hurt you. Unsafe both emotionally and mentally.
      I hope that cleared some things up. :)

    My dr or family physician did tell me that I also have multiple personalities who take over my body to he says that's common when I'm stressed because he told me that I can't handle stress as much as normal people can because I already went through it alot as a kid I was abused physically emotionally and also neglected family physicians though can't diagnose did but he does understand that this is a common thing for people like me who went through trauma early in life I don't have a psychiatrist I used to though I just have a doctor I was however diagnosed with depression anxiety and ptsd I'd have other personalitys though that help me when I'm stressed some of them are good some of them are little and some of them are neither good or bad and yes I have 2 that are not so good

      unfortunately, no. dissociative identity disorder is formed at a very early age due to trauma. it can only form around the ages of 6-9. long vacations wouldn't fix anything, unfortunately

      as far as i know, there isn't. however, alters (alters are the people she heard in her head) are helpful. I've never heard of them being unhelpful like this but the majority of alters are formed to keep you safe. taking them away could be dangerous

      @@squinkledinkles Probably she was too scared to hear the voices and especially when voices said bad things about her..It looks like pills she got from the doctor changed voices and made them to talk to her good things..Maybe she should go to church and pray for help..Jesus will help her for sure.

      @squinkledinkles 4 года назад +1

      @@aleksandrajoksimovic8135 Please stop bringing your religion into mental illness. As someone who is diagnosed with DID, hearing people CONSTANTLY saying to pray to jesus is annoying. Jesus will not help. If jesus wanted to help, he should've done that when i was being abused by my father, hm?
      (i am safe now. there's nothing to worry about.)
      it's over now but i don't think jesus had anything to do with that.
      also, medication for bipolar disorder wouldn't help dissociative identity disorder.

    K so dunno if anyone will respond but I think I’ve blacked out before too. It was in my bedroom and I don’t remember anything I was doing. When I came back to reality I was just staring blankly at a wall.... it was so scary. Is this like a sign of something? Because I have anxiety and depression. I mean I haven’t been professionally diagnosed but have had symptoms for over 2 years now. I just don’t think that a therapist is affordable at the moment, it’s killing my life though

    I have Dissociative Identity Disorder as well. And I just wanted to say if anyone here has D.I.D. also and needs help and support, me and my alters run a D.I.D. social chat. It's a safe place for everyone to socialize and where you can also ask for help. We are here to help all thouse that like us have to manage there lives a little bit different due to D.I.D. and childhood trauma.
    If anyone here would like to be added to this group or if any of you need to talk, or helf/advice we are here for you.
    Just answer to my comment and we will reply to you and try to helf as best we can.
    Stay strong!
    Stay safe!
