  • In the first episode of my Black Hills of South Dakota miniseries, we're kayak fishing the beautiful Pactola Reservoir in search of big northern pike, tasty rainbow trout and largemouth bass. The wind makes things difficult, but we grind through a tough bite to take home dinner. Then, back in our RVs, we're showing you how to filet and cook up the ultimate fish tacos using northern pike.

My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

    Nice Taco !!!
We have pike in Northern China too, and one of the tradition way is to make Pike dumping. It's super easy and delicious. Basically after quick filet fish, we use spoon to scrape the meat from the filet to avoid bones, and minced with ground pork( at least 70% fat), and mix with salt, white pepper, the juice of ginger and scallions, water and a little bit oil. So the stuff inside the dumping is ready, you can put these in all kinds of food like dumping, Bun, or Pie!!! Trust me, it is really good, I can rank it in top three delicious freshwater fish!

I LOVE pike, I've been eating it my whole life. Funny story. My mother-in-law will only eat walleye, end of story ( in her mind) however; at my brother in laws wedding the reception was a fantastic fish fry. Both served perfectly cleaned cooked and served on huge platters. My mother-in-law was crushing it (the woman can eat with the best of em'). I noticed the fish she was selecting from the platters. YEP, she was turning her nose up at the walleye and just pounding the pike! I pointed it out to her that she obviously prefers pike to her beloved walleye! We still joke about it 34 years later. to this day she only eats pike!

Pike are definitely underrated as table fare. anything between 24 and 30 inches is a good keeper. great texture and flavor. i learned a slightly different filleting technique at Watsons Kaby Lodge on Lake Kabinakagami north of Wawa Ontario. You take a backstrap from behind the head to the dorsal fin, then take boneless fillets from the dorsal fin to tail, then deal with the Y bones on fillets from head to dorsal fins.
