Buggy is the equivalent of a 99 Charisma and Luck character with 1 in every other stat. He can bullshit and lucklord his way out of everything as pathetically as possible yet the stars always align to somehow make him look like the top dog even in the dumbest circumstances imaginable.

I wonder what oda is cooking up with this whole alliance. When I read this in the manga it was so unexpected, I mean of all the people to align with each other buggy, mihawk and crocodile? What is his plan and how will this tie into the bigger overall story? It’s crazy how many different characters and storylines he juggles all at once idk how he keeps it all straight in his head. It is VERY difficult to write stories like this where so many different threads are weaved together
My guess is Buggy would be acknowledge by the world as the Pirate King But Luffy is treated as the Pirate King for important people; Luffy doesn't about image or reputation.
Oda already had the layout for One Piece as a teen. He simply had time over the years to perfect the story and weave in new threads to create a more world building type story where the world evolves with the main characters. When you already have the layout of your story then weaving in plot points becomes less tedious than you’d think.

At this point, I don't think anyone can say that Buggy is just a loser. At this point, I don't think anyone can say that Buggy is just a loser. Although he failed so miserably so mamy times, and although he's even weaker than than a bunch of turtles with basic haki, he has spent most of his life to grow as a leader, and he's one of the absolute greatest leaders in One Piece. Although he cries, he gets humiliated, he gets bullied, he managed to end up as the legitimate leader of one of some of the strongest pirates alive. Whatever their personal goals are, his only wish is to keep them all together. Buggy is at least a great of a pirate as Shanks is.
Buggy has got everything he ever wanted,even though he's technically poor and indebted, he managed to build one of the most stable and most successful businesses out there. His entire life has been sacrificed to command such a crew. All his efforts are there, and that's how he has everything. Without Buggy, Crocodile and Mihawk would never achieve further greateness, or amything good at all.
Mhawk is an underling, and so is Zoro. The fight will be brutal, so how can anyone think of Buggy as a lame or weak pirate,captain, human being?

The good thing is that this group is actually going after the ONE PIECE
The interesting thing is I think Buggy has a similar ability to Luffy to make friends. Sure, his is more cowardly, snivelling, and pathetic, but we see throughout the story that really he's not all that bad and all he wants to be is loved and adored. I think him being a clown of all things means that perhaps he's similar to JoyBoy, in that he more than had the potential to be LIKE him if he just dedicated to making friends (which he has the capability to do) and making people actually laugh. He's funny enough to do so.
I think Mihawk realizes that at the end, too, I think he sees it in him. There is a reason Oda keeps Buggy around when he should have been destroyed years ago.
