- Pretty much the hardest challenge in this game maybe even the entire series. Sephiroth was not at all designed for no damage. Strike raid has to be used in order to pull it off but it's still very tough. I didn't use strike raid at all in phase 3 though and was super risky and aggressive.

I remember the very first time I tried this fight. I had never seen sephiroth before. I was blown away by how hard this is. I remember I was obsessed with this character afterwards, without even ever seeing a second of gameplay from Final Fantasy VII. I even remember drawing a picture of him when I was like 10 years old. I gotta find that picture somewhere.

Just trying to win the fight on LV1, and I feel like I've learned a lot from this video. I didn't realize Octoslash could be avoided so consistently, and it looks so cool when you do it.

@@jaydenbudinger9410 I never accomplished it. My advice is "Hope he doesn't do Flame Pillars". Everything else can be avoided consistently, but that move is pure rng, just gotta get lucky.

Since I'm seeing activity from 3 weeks and 5 days ago, and a few questions about occurrences like not taking damage in the fire, let this serve as a post to answer any questions or misconceptions, while also explaining the situation, why this is impressive, and how it's possible.
[1] Level 1
Level 1 is possible to keep until post game content with an ability called EXP Zero. It was added in the Final Mix HD Collection.
It has a few neat properties. Original KH1 on the PS2 back in 2002 was not designed to be done at level 1, so EXP Zero was made.
It prevents you from getting one shot, no matter the fight. At least, you will be two shot, but there are some fights you can survive up to three hits, dying on the fourth. If the player got hit, Sora would not die, nor would their be a game over.
It also has a neat mechanic called Damage Storage, and minimizes the damage dealt to be little more than chip damage. It's still low, but you're not dealing literally minimum damage.
Sephiroth's HP goes well above the display cap, and you would have to hit him probably 4000 times or better if you were hitting for 1 damage.
[2] How tough is Sephy?
Very. He is often seen as the single hardest fight in KH history, it being up to preference with Lingering Will from KH2, or Julius from DDD. Granted, DDD was made by Osaka team, and is very bad as a result. But tangent aside, Sephiroth is the single last challenge most players go through in KH1. Players have often spent 20 hours Synthesizing the best weapon, and getting to Level 100 just to beat this guy, and despite that, still need a dozen or so attempts.
The best weapon being the Ultima weapon, which has twice the strength of Lady Luck, which is used in the video.
That said, the 7 bonus Strength at level 1 wouldn't make a difference, but Ultima weapon has a much higher Crit rate of 40%, and has a noticably longer reach.
Which is where Ultima Weapon would make it a lot easier.
That said, Sephiroth is entirely immune to magic, so alongside the no damage restriction preventing Curaga from being needed, that rule seems kind of redundant.
[3] 1 Item
Item Slots are simple. You're allowed anywhere from 3 to 8 carried on your person. That's the max you can bring to any one fight before restocking, so you can't just use 99 potions to keep alive. That said, using only one item on any fight on Proud is impressive. Proud is a difficulty where even mob fights can be deadly, taking 2 or 3 hits to kill you when you are of level. In this case, the Elixir is used to restore MP which is used for special attacks as well as Magic.
[4] Meteor Skip
Meteor is Sephiroth's ultimate attack. It's just a big move that happens for awhile, and he's invincible doing it. You can skip it with skillful play, and it's a lot harder to do than it sounds. It's also easy to dodge, so it doesn't exactly make the fight easier to skip it.
[5] Taking No Damage in fire
That's Strike Raid. Costs 2 or 3 MP. I don't remember, and wasn't paying attention. It's one of the many attacks Sora has that makes him invincible. The full duration wasn't even being used.
[6] Why no Scan?
Scan is a moved gained by leveling up. And this is a level 1 fight. In fact, most abilities are gained by leveling in KH1. Since I can tell you this player picked the rod in Sora's Dive Into the Heart, I can tell you he needs level 15 for Scan.
[7] So much MP at level 1
Equipment can provide MP. At level 1, you have two accessory slots and one weapon. He's using the Lady Luck, which adds 2 MP, and the max MP attainable from Accessories is 2 each, for a total of 6 bonus MP. The highest you can have at level 1 is 3 from picking the rod at the start, for a total of 9 MP, which is how much he has. If you want to know the max MP at level 1, it's 10, and if you want to know the max at level 100, it's 19.
[8] I saw a glitch in the video! Cheater!
Probably not cheating. Cheaters tend to hide their attempts better, and this person said in the comments somewhere their PC handles recording poorly. Besides, it happens so early in the fight, they've basically done the whole thing anyway, even taking that into account. If you still don't believe them, why not perform the same feat yourself and post it? It's the internet. They put this video up on here for free for your entertainment.

Congrats! Sephiroth in KH1 is a pretty hard fight. You must be very skilled.
Everyone has different reactions to different mechanics, and due to the control scheme in 2 being less clunky, I've heard people struggle less with Lingering Will.

Tbh KH1 Sora was quite OP already. I mean he mastered the gravity/time magic which he later lost them while putting into his one year coma. He also learned those broken limit abilities which he later reused again and again in both KH2 and KH3.
There is a reason why KH2 had limit form and KH3 has second form. His younger self had some mad skills that older Sora can’t quite replicate.

I have lady luck, shiva belt, and royal crown as my equipment and all of them give me an extra 2 mp each. I picked the staff as well at the beginning, so I got 1 extra mp from that.

my computer can't handle recording sometimes. I've tried lowering the quality a bit, but I still get lag sometimes. It has caused me to scrap recordings if it's bad enough.

Don’t know if you still have this issue but this happens because the drive you are recording to is not fast enough to keep up with the data recorded. So it needs to be recorded to an ssd. If you are running in higher quality preferably an m.2 PCIE ssd. If you haven’t figured it out yet. I know it’s been 2 years but it took me so long to figure it out I wanted to mention it just in case 😅

I remember fighting him in proud mode about a year ago. Took a few attempts but managed to defeat him in about an hour. Doing it without taking damage is nuts though, even more so at level 1.

and man... its as hard as i remember and i love it. sephy is the first real skillcheck.
you dont fight him like any other boss where u can just mash shit to win. you need to assess the moves you have. and stock up on elixirs and crap.

You get eye-frames when you dodge meaning he's invulnerable for a very particular time. What he's doing is extremely technical and requires precision timing.

Hardest boss in gaming my ass! However there is no doubt this achievement took a lot of skill and learning.
That all depends on your stats, your personal skill level, your equipment, etc...
Back in the old days of KH1 (so no final mix), the player had different skills, less overpowered movesets, etc...
I also didn't realize just how OP aeroga is in this game. Maybe they buffed it in final mix.
In any case, hardest or not, he sits up there with the hardest ones for sure, at least in games that are actually fun to play.
Unironically In my opinion, the octoslash is the hardest to avoid, like phase two "dodge this!" I can dodge roll pretty consistently but I can't for the life of me not get hit by octoslash.

I must have been a beast at this game because I used sephiroth to level myself from like 70 to 100 with him since you leveled up once per fight. I’ll see how I do against him in the HD remaster on PC when I get there

I'm guessing you spammed the hell out of aeroga and prayed you could get to him before he drains your hp and mp to 1 and 0? I see no worth in fighting sephiroth pure for levelling up sora if you didn't.
In any case, choosing the fight against the rock titan with 3 or 4 exp accessories equiped is still far, far more efficient. And with KH1.5 needing so many synthesis materials and minigames just to make the ultima weapon, you'll already be three quarters done before you even need to grind.
IF that is what you're going for at least.
I know getting the ultima weapon back in the original KH1 was a whole lot easier.
@@RedFloyd469aeroga, ethers, and strike raid was and still is an absolute gem! I just played through it recently on proud mode and I fought him at 80. The attack patterns are burned into my brain and he wasn’t too bad. I always remember having a few elixirs in hand in case I’m too far away for that heartless angel attack which is a nod to Safer Sephiroth from FF7 where the attack would reduce HP to 1. Yeah definitely probably not the most efficient or fastest way to level 😅

Lady Luck, interesting choice. Probably because of its "hidden" stat to be a quicker keyblade compared to some others? Something to do with dexterity or quicker recovery. Idfk. You'll know what I mean.

Kh1 Sephiroth is harder at level 70 than kh2 Sephiroth is at level 1. Albeit a good deal of that is due to him being somewhat unfair without abusing op stuff like strike raid and leaf brazer.

How does this make any sense? I remember when I beat him on level 53 on expert mod egears ago it takes a long time simply because your strength is so low it takes forever to make his HP go down and he doesn't enter into the last attack patterns until he reaches a certain HP level
because the devs made the no exp mode (you probably know but, the no exp mode doesn't exist on the original KINGDOM HEARTS 1 2 Series from PS2) with a damage "adapter", so it wouldn't take ages to kill enemies, imagine sephirot if u could really reach him at lvl 1 without the damage being scaled based on the enemy you are fighting against, sheesh...
This is not the most difficult. He has a pattern to his third phase (ahirun has a video on it. I still cant for the life of me pull off Data Saix or Data Marluxia with mikachu tuhonen's "deadly restrictions. But this is pretty hard to do as well, probably harder than Lingering Will. nice
I purposely didn't loop phase 3 for my restrictions. I've come close to beating data saix without using RCs but I haven't tried it that many times. Jaded did it in like 6 minutes though. I'm not really sure how it works exactly or if it's just luck.

1)Jump over his horizontal swing.
2) Use strike raid for invincibility frames during the flame pillars
3)Skip meteor, I'm guessing by stunlocking sephiroth and forcing him to use the same animations as a counter
4)jumping over and then rolling through his "slash spam" attack, the one in which the screen turns black and he starts spamming sword slashes.
5)Instantly reacting to him teleporting away to cast his hp and mp drain spell.
6)During the second phase, during the meteor skip, dodging his attack the moment he teleports back in to do several upwards slashes while unleashing those blue orbs. Then attack him with a jump attack and three ground swings, ending in a finisher.
So no, not just "jumping over" his attacks. This stuff takes information, time, and skill to learn and do.

Where's the HP bar
Scan in KH1 is unlocked via level up, so on a level 1 challenge you can't get it, which means you can't see enemy HP.

I still don't understand why I didn't see him use Meteor a single time this fight. Not that I doubt the player could have dodged it or anything-- it's doable with clever use of flight and Strike Raid for that last explosive he throws at you, but I thought Sephiroth would always use Meteor at least once. I mean, there's no way OP was doing enough damage to burn him down before he used it-- right?
Edit: NVM read the description-- "Meteor skip". Skipping Meteor sounds helpful, but how the heck did he do it? Is it a glitch that just deletes all his second phase hp or something? It does certainly feel like Sephiroth didn't spend very long in Phase 2... I'll do more research.

Not sure if you ever found out but, in addition to what Velox said, Meteor Skip occurs when you constantly force-aggro Sephiroth enough times (I'm not sure of the exact number) by hitting him 4 times each.
You also have to be sure you don't get hit the whole time or otherwise you won't hit him again in time to prevent the animation he does to start his Meteor attack from occurring.

@manofdaboijerry7687 Yeah, it's an obscure piece of information though about KH1 Sephiroth it seems so it's understandable.
Basically, a way to describe the constant force-aggro that stops the Meteor attack from occurring and be skipped is as follows. Sephiroth stops caring about wanting to show off and do it and really really wants to attack you fiercely instead since he becomes really angry at you.
