Hatsune Miku's Senbonzakura song is one of the most POPULAR vocaloid songs of ALL time. But What is the lore and story behind the Ichi-no-Sakura Miku module? What is Hatsune Miku's story behind this famous project diva and Colorful stage model? Игры
you after being my favourite youtuber
senbonzakura miku is actually one of my favourite she's so cute and the song is a banger
The love never ENDSSSS! THANK YOU
And YESS Senbonzakura miku is SO COOL!
I love her deeper meaning! Especially with the concerns of Japan's culture!

@@TheReal2-tpot Ooo wait, she did? thats honestly SUPER COOL what?
omg project sekai fan?! WANDAHOI
Fun Fact: in most Korean Localizations of this game, both this model and senbonzakura are removed.
Oh wowww. Most likely due to dark underlying tone and symbolism that could just be hitting in the wrong places for korea.
i did NOT know this though!
@@SekaiDreamingthe reason may be that the rising sun flag represents the atrocities committed by Japan during WWII to South Korea, being akin to the Nazi flag/swastika, so a music video featuring that symbol/imagery based on the Japanese military wouldn’t go over well.
@@duotone3204 I perhaps could see that. plus the attire she is wearing resembles that of a Japanese military officer.
Though Korea and Japan have gotten closer over the years, i definitely forget how "rocky" their relationship has been haha.
@@SekaiDreaming yeah, there are several war crimes that Japan refuses to apologize for or even acknowledge
@@theundeadcactus6194yeah, in fact Japan seems to almost hide the truth of Imperial Japan at times
Never ask Senbonzakura Miku what she did for her country in WWII
Dude I dont think that the guillotines were necessarily the darkest thing during the meiji reformation
Haha i could definitely have went deeper about the dark imagery of imperialism and VERY strong views. but i decided to not go TOO deep down that road.
The guillotines in general were dark because of how they were being ASSOCIATED with the near propaganda being given haha.
@@SekaiDreaming ok, fair point there
Yeah weren’t guillotines like, made to be painless?
@@mattomustsplatto8986No physical killing method is painless except an exploding shotgun bullet directly into the brain
@@mattomustsplatto8986yeah but it was found they werent and that the heads remained conscious for a little bit after being chopped off
People on Tiktok arguing if Pure-Pure is Miku, meanwhile this dude who knows they're just different Miku models:
Nah the rabbit hole discourse is so stupid
now what does this have to do with pure pure
I mean the creator said that it was not Miku and that she's just dressed up in the same outfit as rabbit hole miku. She does look quite a bit different I guess.
Ahaha. Ive DEBATED on covering this topic.
I think the thing alot of people misinterpret is that Hatsune Miku is... EVERYTHING. like she is ment to be molded. she is ment to fit into your own artistic vision, your own way of designing her.
There is speculation that Pure pure is a seperate character. but i DOUBT that was the real idea originally.
I think that Miku should just be whatever the person wants it to be. and even with how "adult" rabbit hole is, they also comment that the character is 18+
theyre newbies
Miku has a lot of derivatives in many of her songs' MVs
I just call her capitalism miku 😭
💀
lmao nooo
More like Imperialist Miku 😅
I love thiss lmao
Senbonzakura is quite literally anti war
this song as opposed to promoting imperial japan can be interpreted as an anti war song
yes, the song "Senbonzakura" is a satire on Japanese imperialism, which can be seen from the wrong number on "Anti-War Country" in the original MV.
Depends. It can be seen as that or it can be seen as being Pro Imperial. The Symbolism isn't very in your fave on the Anti Imperial Part.
Someone mentioned that the song is removed in the Korea localization of the game. Fun fact, the case is the same with Project Sekai. Additional fun fact, Tanjiro's earrings are altered in the Korean version.
loved this song growing up but grew to be disturbed by it over time because of the imperial imagery. Unfortunate since its such a catchy tune.
I think its best to take it at a value that the creator simply wants to show the depressing fact of Japan slowly becoming westernized. But i admit, the imagery definitely is pretty dark. and has even been BANNED in places.
@@SekaiDreamingthe thing is this may or may not have to do with the fact that the true nature of Imperial Japan is often not discussed in Japan nowadays, leading many Japanese folks to simply not know, and only seeing Imperial Japan times as times when they were simply a more powerful country than they are now, as opposed to them being up there with Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy
@@yesmynameisgamecubeyou don’t speak Japanese so why do you think you know what’s being discussed in the country?
@@trainv7612 research, including from actual japanese people who had to find out the truth themselves.
@@SekaiDreamingThat only makes it even more of a fascist piece honestly.
senbonzakura is one of my fav miku songs
YESSS legit me too! It definitely deserves all the love and praise it's received!!
Japan if represented by miku:

now: rabbit hole

Senbonzakura is such a good song, plus Ichi-No-Sakura Miku's design is my favorite
YESSS! It definitely deserves all the love and praise it has gotten!
I LOVE all the little sakura flower designs on the sleeves too! Such a GREAT module!
I've cosplayed this miku as a western white girl and i just realised that that's INCREDIBLY on theme 😭😭😭
god i loved this song so much as a kid, but with the global rise in fascism and hypernationalism, the song's vibes just seem rancid now.
Global fascism where? The heck are you talking about?
I mean maybe if you don't understand history, it might seem that way. American right?
Duh national and cultural pride seems bad to you, Americans don't have any culture, so "American pride" is usually a weird right-wing racial thing.
But nearly every other country out there is perfectly fine to celebrate their culture and bemoan the cultural colonisation efforts of America on their countries.
@@madelinebitts2766im european and agree with op. if you know about japans crimes during before during and after ww2 you wouldnt be saying this. the korean version of pjd has not included this song and module for that very reason.
@@vkskms Senbonzakura does NOT defend the Meiji era, just talks about it. The module is still available in China, a country also affected by Japan's colonization (SK just doesn't like depictions of Meiji-Taisho eras, they even censor anime with clothing from that era). There's quite a few good debunkings of your theory on CN sites, in fact.
(I'm Indian btw before you ask, we almost got hit by Japan in the northeast too, crazy story)
@@flowerine06 i mean. the lyrics are pretty nonsensical or at least there isn't a clear storyline to follow. so there isn't really one true meaning and we don't know the producers stance. they could be a big fan of imperialist japan for what we know.
i’ve always called her imperialist miku
I love how I take these shorts for granted in 2024 so your content is really needed for a new Miku fan
AHHH THANK YOUU!
I’ve honestly just had so much fun putting these together! The community has been nothing about absolutely AMAZING!
This is not really surprising, there are plenty of incredibly dark Vocaloid songs, Bacterial Contamination, Cantarella, meltdown etc.
I think it’s logical that the Korean and Chinese versions would ban the song considering of what happened.
I'm Chinese and I can tell you this song is not banned in my country.
Honestly I really don't think enough people talk about how imperialistic this song is? Like it is making direct references to pre and during world war II Japan with the style of the uniforms and outfits and the rising Sun imagery not even to mention the lyrics 😬 if you're not familiar with everything Japan did before and during world war II to China and Korea I implore you to do research they did some absolutely horrendous things and the propaganda at that time was talking about how they had to civilize the Koreans and Chinese it's very similar and reminiscent of N*zi propaganda so yeah making direct references to that time period is kind of yikes
Dare i say that Senbonzakura is one of the most controversial hatsune miku songs to date.
The song itself is conducted in an absolutely fantastic manner. And the quality is top notch. But the imperialistic imagery and the very SHADY propaganda themes here are definitely incredibly harsh. Though i still continue to enjoy this song, there is definitely some very dark themes given here that get just alittle too... Strange.
@@SekaiDreaming Don't get me wrong I think the actual music is fantastic it was one of my first Miku songs and I thought the designs were so pretty but as I learn more about Japanese history and culture the more it left a sour taste in my mouth... Honestly tho whenever I have a nostalgia itch I will sometimes come back and listen to it because it is so fantastically made
@@KittyKathrynT I think a big part of the imagery people were against was definitely the use of the "rising sun" as it is a flag that has DEFINITELY been retired for a good reason.
Though japan also has conflicting views about this. and sees it more as piece of history and its culture... Which... i dont necessarily disagree with? But that i also dont think it should have been used with the video ahaha
They also committed atrocities to the Philippines during WW2 so like is very VERY much a song to look back on in a "man we've come a long way huh" kinda way
@@BukoAndCo I completely forgot to mention the Philippines my bad! But yeah Japan has a hell of a history and a lot of it is extremely glorified in anime, games, and music that unless you are from/descended from a country that they brutalized or you go out of your way to really research it you really wouldn't know any of it so i really wish it was talked about more by people so we can be conscious consumers of the media we like
honestly, all i was thinking about was Byakuya’s Shikai 😭
I showed this song to my therapist in 5th grade and she was watching it and was like
"Jump off the guillotine....?"
I am still just as stupid as i was then
AHAHAHA yeah. Yeah disturbing miku songs PROBABLY got wrote down in your therapists notes. LOL
Should have shown her songs like Bacterial contamination! NOW THAT WOULD REALLY turn some heads!
I feel like a lot of Vocaloid songs touch on some pretty dark topics. :o
I love them either way.
Oh for SUREEEE Ahaha!
Especially when you tap into the older vocaloid scene. There is also of emotion, and you can definitely tell that the artists had a lot going on in their minds (some maybe too much haha)
BUT THEY ARE ALL STILL BOPS.
the one on her back might be a mention to the red ink on most Miku version's left shoulder!
Mhm! It is! Just a cool look extra touch to detail to make sure Miku is still labeled at "Number one!" Honestly just a cool idea! The outfit is sooooo good!
Bankai: Senbonzakura mikuyoshi
Underrated comment, I hope you have a wonderful, fantastic, amazing day ✨🌸✨
Ichi-no-Sakura Miku is undoubtedly beautiful, but I do think that she's better off kept as a memory in terms of ppl cosplaying her and whatnot.
If I'm remembering correctly, KuroUsa-P released Senbonzakura months after the deadly Tohoku earthquake in 2011, and cited that he hoped the song would "bring the country together" (as they rebuilt) or something along those lines. I understand the logic of wanting to unite your country's people by reminding them of a time period when they considered themselves as very strong, but retrospectively, it was a bit of an odd approach, especially considering what they had to do to other countries to be considered as "strong". There's a reason why this song isn't added to Korean copies of the games.
With all that being said, I don’t want it to seem like I'm ragging on KuroUsa-P, because while it definitely isn’t a creative decision that I would have made, I think I can extend grace for where he was coming from. For what it's worth, I think he succeeded in some way. He did bring people together, and he went beyond his intended audience for many years to come. I guess that it was worth it in the end.
Sorry for the long comment, I just think that it's an interesting module to discuss, and I get excited with videos like these. Hope to see more in the future!
What an absolutely WONDERFUL comment! Thank you SERIOUSLY for taking your time to break down everything better around the image of the creators intentions! (it can seriously be challenging to find these things online. especially if you dont speak japanese ahaha)
But YES! I think the best way to take it, is to enjoy the art that was given, but also to understand that this song is most definitely a RELIC of it's time.
I think its great to appreciate the culture of japan, and to also want to fight for that said culture to thrive for years to come. But they definitely OVERDID on what they probably should have. But i can still find the beauty in this. And can appreciate the mark it has left in Vocaloid in general for sure!
Also THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your support absolutely means the world to me!
you randomly showing up on my feed for 3 days in a row made me think you already had an audience i didnt know of, but actually checking out your channel and seeing this was a relatively new channel suprised me. ill definitely stick around cuz i love these videos!!

I absolutely love miku with brown eyes, its so cute.
Me too! Miku with brown eyes makes her seem much more natural!
It's also my favorite eye color in general. So I might be a tad biased ahaha
She slayed so hard in that outfit.
SHE HAD NO RIGHT to look as good as she did!
Especially the all white variant!
Quite literally slayed
senbonzakura is a great song but th history of it kinda ruined it for me... Esp considering what japan did to korea, china and many other countri s including mine. My great granddad got captured by japanese soldiers and never returned.
Senbonzakura indeed is unfortunately one of those older vocaloid songs that had some very... overly dark meanings behind it.
But the best way that i try to look at it, is that Miku is simply expressing the sad reality of the dying culture of Japan (albeit in a very DARK way)
Though the hidden imagery makes it really hard to listen to it the same after you look into it ahah
Imo This song is very upbeat, making it more Chinese-styled than Japanese-styled, since traditional Japanese music is slow and in a minor key (iirc from my first grade music class...)
Minor key? That's diatonic scale which is Western. Traditional Japanese is pentatonic in Scale (which is most folk music before westernization). I don't know the specific character of the Japanese pentatonic scale though and how different it is from Chinese. I imagine it to be very similar and based on the modes of the elements, including void instead metal or gold.
No one gunna talk about how good that techno mix is in the back? Also i guessed it was dark, the only line i remember is ICBM 😇
Only ONE other person brought it up so far! IT IS SUCH A GREAT REMIX!
If you are curious, it is the Senbonzakura (Heathen Remix)! Definitely worth a listen!
It's so sad that so many people misinterpret the song in being pro war propaganda when it's actually the opposite
How on EARTH do you read this song as pro war????
@@OcarinaLink24It can be seen a glorification of imparialist japan due to tye lyrics.
i remember when this song came out, it's crazy to see it become so immensely popular (mainly because i always ended up liking obscure vocaloid songs, so seeing one i liked go viral was strange)
Oooo same same! This song is on the older side of vocaloid, before me getting super invested (Fan since 2015) But ive always been more sucked into the more obscure songs! or one that flew under the radar atleast.
But Senbonzakura absolutely EXPLODED. And its honestly funny. because most people LOVE this song, and never actually realize what she is actually SAYING. And seeing the responses here is just absolutely hilarious ahaha
i love that miku model
Ooo YES. ANOTHER SENBONZAKURA ENJOYER! She is so unique too! You can see the tiny little details on her medals and everything! and her unique symbolism is just SO COOL.
Ill give you this Japan, youre military propaganda stands out amongst the rest.
Especially when you got the whole western world BOPPING TO THIS.
I mean countries like Korea absolutely HATED this song (for probably good reason) but that wont stop us from vibing ahaha
I like the criminal miku personally
Can't wait for mesmerizer Miku.
OOOOO MESMERIZER MIKUUU
Such class! An absolutely SLEPT on classic!
I actually wanted to use this song for a school project about Japanese pop culture and its diffusion lol
Senbonzakura was my first VOCALOID song-
Honestly such a GREAT Miku song to welcome you to vocaloid!
Believe it or not, it was Gumi that really kicked me into Vocaloid! Then I found miku. It was ALL over ahaha
Some people we dont know much about Vocaloid or song around it seem to think only 2 things
1 " cute dance yet people dont know the meaning"
2 " dont get it but it intersing song to listen"
The new people or only happend hear a song so big that they look it up but know onyl small part of the company around it or the artist
In cases like those you have vocalois fans telling those people in post " that most song are often with a Dance and there dance tell a story and 50% of those song are Always dark and the people of japan and around the world know it damm well"
This song got me into vocaloid
OOO and it is SUCH A GOOD SOONNNG!
The perfect introduction!
SAME
this song seems to be criticizing/satirizing how japan handled things during this time period from the lyrics and imagery. i am very confused how people are comprehending it as pro-imperalisim or as war crime denial. can someone explain? i agree the imagery is insensitive, especially to a Chinese or Korean audience but I feel japan is the villain here??
I think this may also be a very fair way to observe and handle the themes displayed in the song/video!
Some take it way too far. and even claim that this song is government propaganda. But i generally see it more as showing the dark and "strong" background of japan but also showing the grace of japan's culture slowly being stripped away. Which is definitely a very valid and real issue happening in the country as we speak.
But i never have really went as far as to think the song is exactly as dark as some may paint it to be. The artist even claimed that it was made to hopefully be a joyful song to help unify japan
i also used to want to believe that until i read ovelosphere’s deep dive analysis and translation of it. plus kurousa-P saying he made it to unify people after the 2011 earthquake? yeah, not satirical.
@@crowwithaknife1312 The deep dive didn't really change my opinion, honestly. I also don't really understand how even from the perspective it was nationalist it'd be unifying or positive, so I never really assumed anything from his statement there. (Sorry I sound so contrarian lol)
I guess I shouldn't be so confident about my statement, and definetly am not as much, but I'm still not to sure of the pro Japan in the war way of reading it, and find it forced. Its definetly possible its a mix of both possibilities. Anti war, anti Japan's involvement, but still paints Japan as the victim? Not to sure.
@@JazyyWazyy We can agree that WW2 Japan was far from a victim, but this song is about Meiji Restoration, when America came to « bring civilisation » with a float of armoured boat, to « peacefully » westernise them ; Japan trying to defend itself against a stronger technology and being force to abandon their traditions etc they were indeed victims at that time
@@SombreDiamant yes, but it seemed to me the song touched a few more topics than just that.

The alt version of this module is beautiful as well
OOO ABSOLUTELY! I made sure to atleast sneak it in for one of the scenes in this! But the all white variant is definitely my favorite!
It’s a good song but I do think it’s a government Miku meaning it makes the government look good and the japan gonverment if you know World War Two isn’t..
Haha its honestly not THAT deep.
Just that Japan has been worried about the decline of their culture for awhile now. (and its happening VERY quickly too) and that most likely at some point, japan is going to be very westernized.
Which is the point of the song. to display that their isnt much you can really do about the fade of their culture. its more sad than anything! But probably not a government plot ahah
@@SekaiDreaming it’s probably because of the fact western things is more popular. I still don’t think the rising sun flag was nessicary for the song because that’s a WW2 symbol
This song isn’t about WW2 Japan but Meiji Restoration Japan, decades earlier, when they were bullied by the US unto opening theirs borders 😅
The rising sun has been used for hundred of years and symbolises traditional Japan, because at that time the country was divided by pro westernisation and anti westernisation, imperials and military, you can find many symbolic of traditional Japan like Buddhism, cherry blossoms, oirans etc as opposed to western symbols like bicycles, ICBMs etc
In the translation they talk about darkness engulfing the universe they know, and it’s a direct reference to Matthew Perry’s gunboats float « Black Ships »
This song is far from being imperialist and nationalist, but rather about Japan trying to preserve their culture during Meiji Restoration.
Ofc I do not deny 20th century Japan actions, but this is not the point of the song
I got really into this song - like a lot of Vocaloid songs - by playing Project Mirai DX for 3DS. I even bought the Senbonzakura Miku Nendoroid at an anime store in L.A.
