What I like the most about this video is that it's assembled quite literally how 99% of people would do it, even if it's super jank. That's something you don't see in large tech channels!
I would definitely have just used something like a Raspberry Pi (or some similar Linux SBC) with an SSD, and I’d put in a new flatscreen monitor. This looks really nice though!
you are a monster for hacking away at a cool piece of retro computing. But the idea is pretty cool to build a modern system inside an old computer enclosure. I'll give you that.
I managed to do this to an apple 2e without having to touch a single one of it's original parts. If the PSU worked, I could reassemble it into a fully fonctionnal apple 2e within an hour or two.
OMG, that was awesome!!! You didn't hide your mistakes, you did what most people would have done; hack the **** out of that case! I've often wondered why NOBODY has released a MITX case like that in 2020!!
damn that's even lazier and worse than the top search result its funny because the solution is so simple tiny motherboard bottom io gpu riser side io also better screen(what were u even thinking with that screen.
I love this. I hate this. I love the abandon to which you just threw it together. You have to be young enough to not have any nostalgia / love / reverence for the compact mac design to just haphazardly push things into it and rip holes into the case to make the innards fit. I hate the lack of planning that resulted in the case being hacked up and the display being on an angle that would make me cringe every time I looked at it. BUT. Having seen many of these retrofits it probably is the most useful version as it I have seen.
As someone who restores old computers, i have to say this video made my hands sweat. I'm not used to seeing vintage computers manhandled like this. Having said that...well done!
you could have just taken the old motherboard out and replaced it with something more modern like you could have used a raspberry pi like another guy said or another motherboard or a mac mini to keep it apple and tried to output at the crt somehow
I like Classic Mac mods, don’t take me wrong, it came out great, but it hurts my heart to see windows on it. I prefere when ppl put macs inside those cases. I have a project on my pipeline to make a Color Mac SE using a iBook G3 motherboard. It will run OS 9.
I love this I have spent the last 3 or 4 hours doing this with an old emac, but I still need to do some cleanup with hot glue and zip ties, it's riding rough right now
Bro... I watched your video and I was planning how to modify and build my own on an old mac i got, and you hit me with the "assert your dominance as the ultimate hipster" hahaha
you live in a first world that has access to maker space and 3D printers CNC facility and laser cutters and fluffy knows how much more. Look mate you could have done so much COOL stuff with this little dude here. Not saying this is bad but saying you can really make it next level.
I cried while watching this video. I heard "I was ignorant". I agree with you sir. I also vomited when i saw the part with wiring. This is a great idea, and could have been executed much much much much better. But I understand that the main purpose of this video isn't to teach others on how to build a clean retro looking computer correctly.
So, I'm almost done with my project as well... I'm turning a Macintosh Se in to a Crazy Gaming PC I have it up and running, I'm just waiting for the monitor to arrive. You should see it It looks dupe Already... I took a different approach I have a 12 Core AMD 3900x CPU, RTX 2070 Supper GPU, 32gb Ram, 1TB NVME ssd and of course RGB's everywhere I also have Liquid AIO installed on it too
Cool project! Personnally, I'm almost done with an apple IIe outfited with a core i3 9100, 8GB of (single channel T_T) ram, vega 56 and 1TB SSD. I've even managed to install macOS big sur on there. The low end processor and crappy ram config was because I wanted to save some money since I already have a decent computer, the vega 56 was what macOS compatible card I had on hand from my main PC. Also, I got the 9100 and not the 9100f because the motherboard I used still has a VGA output so I can use the iGPU to drive a CRT, not 100% accurate since I can't use the composite monitor from the apple 2 but I think it's still pretty cool. (unfortunately my CRT died a few months ago so I will have to find another one to test this.)
Can somebody please help me. How do you call the tool used to cut metal in this video ? and why is it not a complete disc ? I could google it but I'm not even sure of the question.
Fanboys gonna be SOOOOOOO MAD! The only thing that bothers me is that if you simply disassembled and didn't cut the wires, you could have sold the Apple innards as parts and recouped costs.
Nice job man! Family friend of ours passed away and his widow wife has been selling off his stuff cause she's an older lady and isn't tech savvy. He was splicer and would take things like old Atari console and repurpose the shell etc. Really smart guy he was. He had one of these Mac Plus 1 from 1986 and she still has it. I asked her if can I have it because I literally was thinking to try this. She's going to offer it to me so I can use it for whatever. I was wondering, why didn't you try installing a mini-PC Micro-ATX style board? That would have I imagine saved you a ton of space and from there been able to get things in with very minimal cutting? Just a thought. I will try this!
Made this during the pandemic when I didn't have much money and computer parts were crazy, so I just used parts from my PC, but obviously a smaller mb and whatnot would be wayyyy more elegant. Best of luck on the build!
there was a time i wanted to do this similar project with an iMac G3.. i failed misserably. and i still have all the parts laying around in my parents' house. :(
Scott, your channel has so much potential with how earnest and entertaining your DIY videos are! You're an absolute natural! Hope the pandemic didn't take too much of a toll on you and would love to see you make a return to RUclips with more of your creative, grab-bag content!
When he started ripping up the motherboard of that classic computer, I literally felt my face start to twitch uncontrollably. By the time he was hacking up the case, I was just shaking my head in disbelief. Sorry kiddos, an OG Mac user from way, way, back in the day. It's just hard to see you guys "reusing" stuff like that... And my eyes twitched uncontrollably one last time when I realized that to add insult to injury, he was running WINDOWS on it. ----sad mac face---
Thats super. defo prob could of used a mini pc motherboard and maybe a little bit better of a screen but it looked super real classic brought back to life
Despite how much i love how it looks it pains me greatly to see you multilate the poor computer
What I like the most about this video is that it's assembled quite literally how 99% of people would do it, even if it's super jank. That's something you don't see in large tech channels!
the screen's alignment with the case sums up the entire build process if you know what I mean-
Yup lol
I agree
For real. Never seen such a bad pc build video haha
yeah this guy kinda sucks. i dont like the shoddy, cobbled together style, as if he doesnt take the build seriously
as a retro macintosh enthusiast it pains me to see that
You're welcome
@@ScottDalylivesI really wish you had touched the flyback transformer
I don't care for apple too much, but there would've been a better way to go about this without damaging the old case and frame... 😭😭
I dont think i have ever seen a pc build with more pure brute force and less plan.
:)
(:@@ScottDalylives
yeah the plan was inversely proportional to the force
Its a good idea, but you needed to use an ITX motherboard and SFX Power Supply or smaller to add more space inside.
Look how they massacred my boy
Not assembled. Thrown together.
Watching this video physically hurt.
😅
"I was expecting you get Shock at the whole time"
they had their signatures on it bc one should always sign their art
I would definitely have just used something like a Raspberry Pi (or some similar Linux SBC) with an SSD, and I’d put in a new flatscreen monitor. This looks really nice though!
A Mac mini
did you HAVE to ruin a perfectly good old computer for this?
yes
you are a monster for hacking away at a cool piece of retro computing.
DUDE, HACKINTOSH IT NOW!
Shouldnt have destroyed the analog board - the Flyback component if good is worth like $100 and rare. Could have just used an Intel NUC or Mac mini.
I'm a fool
I thought It was going to be a macmini inside the old mac case!
... watching this hurt .. a lot :(
The computer looks kicking' awesome! Although, it is a sin to have windows running on a Macintosh.
OMG, that was awesome!!! You didn't hide your mistakes, you did what most people would have done; hack the **** out of that case! I've often wondered why NOBODY has released a MITX case like that in 2020!!

I love how you used the motherboard as a motherboard adapter
It’s not the motherboard but the psu
@@pouliniere7595 well whatever just the fact that he uses PCBs to mount pcbs
wait, how does this only have 3.2K views?????

Maybe a raspberry pi would have done the job
lol
And thats fun how?
I wanna do the same on my channel, what screen did you use?
That’s cool but would have been better with a Hackintosh or a linux distro made to look like mac os
Not scared of metal filings going into the power supply i see. Could have been a very exciting end to the video :)
I love how it turned out--you took me on a journey! Damn, I am feeling emboldened to give modding a try...
As someone who restores old computers, i have to say this video made my hands sweat. I'm not used to seeing vintage computers manhandled like this. Having said that...well done!
This is really cool! I wonder why it has so little views
You could have used laptop internals. Would have been better for temperatures and air room for components inside
Wow! Just wow! I wish I had your abilities. I just want to fix my plus to re-live old memories!
You should hackintosh it,
That is sloppy as hell
you could have just taken the old motherboard out and replaced it with something more modern
like you could have used a raspberry pi like another guy said
or another motherboard

I want to something like this with an old terminal pc !!
Jesus, mate, this should be on Liveleak.
Did i just watch a man go insane ?
yes

Linux is the ideal os for a build like this
You really should have used a modular power supply
I love this I have spent the last 3 or 4 hours doing this with an old emac, but I still need to do some cleanup with hot glue and zip ties, it's riding rough right now
I thought a modern upgraded Apple computer inside a 1986 Mac is another suggestion I came up with.
This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while. Good job!
You should do it with the new m1 Mac mini
This is my dream build ngl
whats the name of that Keyboard?
wow you made my dream computer
Cool build, the screen is not level though
Really? How can you tell?

This is exactly what I'm looking for😄,a breath-taking moments
Why don't you put "mac mini" inside?
this video is cursed
As a design student, watching this scuffed build actually hurts.
But it’s cool lmao
I would love to have a modern PC in a classic mac or even an IBM PS/1 form-factor.

you NEED to replace the screen, maybe find one with the right size (or cloes enough to look good)

"ssd hard drive" lmao
Things could have been easier with a modular or a sfx psu and a m.2. All in all this is sick.
Michael mjd should see this & make a video like this
what the hell I thought this had like a million views... good video sir
This was a good attempt... but... oh jeez... just a few different parts... some shorter cables- etc- and it could've been so much better...
Would be better if you put an Raspberry Pi in there
You might’ve triggered a bunch of Macintosh owners (but not me)
