This sounds like a stylistic tribute to the wonderful early 60's John Coltrane band that was made up of McCoy Tuner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones. The first tune remind me of Afro Blue from the Live at Birdland album by the same quartet.
@@kubaguzik8374 I agree. This is a heavily influenced variation which inevitably lacks the level of improvisation, energy and intensity of the original that it's based on.
well - let's put it this way - if the movie back to the future came out today, then marty would be going back to...wait for it......1993. so....@@Designsgrafic
The connection to John and Alice Coltrane is unmistakable. One can easily hear strains of "A Love Supreme", or "Equinox" or even "Naima" and some other great Coltrane jazz masterpieces. This is relaxed, spiritual, not oveplayed, pedantic or esoteric, just great lstening. Love Rachael Gladwin's harp throughout, adds that beautiful spiritual touch.
I can hear the connection to John and Alice Coltrane (mainly John I'd say)… but it feels like a Coltrane spiritual album with Miles at the trumpet, and Pharoah not far neither. The Miles vibe is really strong as much as Coltrane.
I have to say I prefer this music to the progressive rock of the late 60s/ early 70s. There are a lot of great artists on this label. Gondwana Recordings. Perhaps they are into Zen Buddhism rather than drugs. I get a natural high doing breathing meditation while listening to this and other on this label.
This is Jazz. Not that noisy "jazz rock" from the 70s. I used to listen to some of that myself back then. And Jazz is meditation. When you find the really good tracks. And there is plenty, but some sounds a lot better. Cool when you find it. Very relaxing. Good Jazz really smoothes out the rough edges of every-day life. Esp these days.
When I hear echoes of McCoy Tyner (not Tuner haha), master drummer Elvin Jones and of course Coltrane - all flows into one for me. I don't see that this should be a problem somehow. Rather a huge tremendous quality of these players, and a re-visiting of our masters! Love the flute - who was that again at the time of Be-bop....?
I have arrived here in the Gondwana Records taxi, courtesy of Portico Quartet. I can't believe after all these years of music that I'm still discovering bands I've never heard of before. One surefire benefit is the quality of headphones have changed considerably for the better, and the KEF 850's are on the shopping list for this year. Take good care rolling into 2022 folks.
Just found this guy and I can honestly say that I haven't heard music like this in a long........long time. Can't wait to take this journey with all his works.
This is great music. It evokes a powerful, almost primitive, sort of nostalgia in me, almost as if I'm being transported back to the dawn of mankind itself - or even further. Gondwana sums it up nicely!
Great music!!! Is the album cover a Joseph Albers "Homage to the Square" painting? Does anybody know? Beautiful music AND beautiful painting. Thanks for posting it.
Just found this channel hold similar playing backgrounds. tbh, I'm picky about music just like every other human being, these play lists could allow me to be amused while doing my illustrations. Nice 👍
It's groovy, it's smooth, it's modern, it's fusion, it's free, it's a masterpiece.

much more less "free" in my opinion

It is that and a whole lot more. The good Jazz musicians do that really well.
I'm an old guy and this music brings back the vibe of the bands I saw and played in back in the 70;s and I really enjoy and wish you great success.
Ur not that old
70's ECM vibes...beautiful
I'm an old guy too and this is some of the best conceptional jazz that I have heard. Brilliant artists. Straight to iTunes store for me.

Jazz à lá Coltrane Africa and Alice harp psychodelic jazz with a beautiful oriental seasoning and ambience... our ecletic minds love this blessed mix
a great tribute to the one of the most divinely musicians of all time, Alice Coltrane.
Thanks to Matthew and all the wonderful musicians who play with him on these tracks. Nat Birchall is one of a kind!

And the harp is also a Alice Coltrane tribute - The F Album is called 'When the world was one'. What does that say? Used to be one big thing.
