I just now noticed that the first cyloop 2:45 isn't just lifting him in the air by some telekinetic power, it's friggin light spears rising from the ground IMPALING him. And then 2:51, a giant spear from the heavens impales him again in the opposite direction. That is brutal. It's basically super version of Chaos Spear, isn't it? Sonic can apparently perform it too. If Eggman saw this (and the previous boss fights), he would probably shake in his boots.

Now Super Sonic has arguably gone against more powerful enemies in the past that even require the assistance of other supers or beings as powerful, but this game really does just do such a great showcase of how truly powerful Super Sonic can be since you can actually fight here and not just ram right at them. From being able to physically contend with the Titans, to being nigh impervious to almost anything thrown at you, to even showcasing powers and abilities he's rarely shown before, this game really makes Super Sonic feel as powerful as he should be

Giganto: Designed to be the main basic form for the titans. Wyvern: Designed with flight capabilities. Knight: Designed to use weapons in combat. Supreme: Takes the basic design of the Giganto, while adding in the previous two titans design functions, only this time he has a jet pack for space travel and a Gundam styled gun.
Pretty sure Giganto was meant to have brute strength instead of just a basic form for the Titans. Supreme is like Giganto but equipped with a rifle so powerful it matches the eclipse cannon (which at full power can pierce stars and blow planets)
@@iam4026 Ye giganto aside from his punches and stuff has his other abilities too but he commonly uses his fists since that seems more effective especially in close combat. Also knight has roller skate thiningies so he might have also have been designed for land travel but the only time we see them in action is during the fight by sliding side to side so that sonic couldn't keep track of it but its in a small arena (for knight atleast) so he wasn't able to maximise them probably
It’s not just the abilities that makes Super Sonic seem more powerful, it’s the fact that he’s pretty damn tactical with some of his attacks, such as deflecting a shield and using it, using a fallen sword, and attacking Knight’s legs to make it lose balance.
@@nman551 He just doesn't use that skill because his speed usually blitz through everything, allowing him to outrun, outpace and dodge all the things thrown at him. His enemies are for the most part, too confident in themselves and underestimate him, and he usually fights mindless monsters or automated machines, but that doesn't mean he can't fight smart opponents

Amen to that! The way the fight is synced with the music is really impressive! I must say, out of many Knight fights I've seen so far, this one has to be my personal favorite, by a longshot.
The previous games have shown that Super Sonic is invincible and very powerful, but Frontiers is where Super Sonic truly felt like that. Rather than just ramming through enemies, Super Sonic just creates whirlwinds powerful enough to sent giants flying, resist the power of a death ray, throw a giant robot dragon into a cliff, and cut a giant robot in half with its own skyscraper-sized sword among many other things. I just don’t think most final bosses in Sonic have had this much of a rush of adrenaline.

I swear this is a cinematic masterpiece of the boss and the moves peformed by the player. Never thought I say "this is epic" unironically again but holy shit this fight is amazing.
It really sucks you need to cyloop the titan's WHOLE BODY to do it. You can do that with giganto, knight and supreme, but it's really hard to keep track the beginning of the loop. Quick cyloop solves that by only looping the Titan's neck. This enables wyvern to be cyclooped... And shows the most awesome cyloop animation in the game!!! You can find that for yourself if you haven't

The fact that he could do it or you didn’t know you could cyloop the bosses? From what I can tell those were Chaos Spears an ability that only Shadow both in and out of his super form could do until now and even then these were far greater than anything that Shadow did with them it’s pretty awesome

I never saw Sonic use that technique until Frontiers, but I guess it makes sense for him to be able to pull it off since he has been shown to use Chaos Control in the past. However, my comment was actually referring to being able to cyloop the bosses during gameplay.
So I'm gonna put this into perspective for people. I grew up visually impaired but I could still see sonic adventure two battle was the very first video game ever beat around 5/6. I've been blind for a total of six years all the way back in 2018 and listening to this boss and just hearing what is going on through the sound design and the music. Let's just say thanks to just the Internet as well as other things the fact I can enjoy this amazing display without any visual reference is incredible TLDR sonic music is so anime meme metal gear whatever that the blind can understand it without any visual reference
I know how you feel here. I’ve been blind for a long time, I was unable to enjoy the visual aspects of some of the games I learned to love. This just shows how important music and sound design is. Sometimes, more than graphics.

To be fair it has been a long while since we have seen shadow use his super form and sonic is shown to constantly get stronger so who knows shadow may be able to make one the size of the sun (he probably could even back in sa2 if he took his rings off)

Based on the comments I feel like people forget Sonic is totally fine and capable with using chaos abilities. He'd used chaos control, time travel, and now chaos spear with the cyloop here. Hell it's not even just spears anymore it can be full on energy constructs

That's from the cyloop skill. For the first and last titan its a hurricane that lifts them up into the air. For the 2nd boss it chains up his arms and head.
@@Duster29to86 Yeah, but Cyloop in and of itself is a separate ability from what Sonic does to the Titans when using it in these fights. We learn he can summon chains to bind them and, as shown in this fight, use Chaos Spears as well
This game made Super Sonic much more powerful because he was given a lot more moves. A problem I had with Super Sonic boss fights in previous games is that he felt pretty basic and flat. All he did was fly and boost and that was it. This game fixes that problem for me
agreed, that's why I get puzzled when nostalgic fans say Frontiers Super Sonic fights are glorified cutscenes. There's more gameplay mechanics and freedom in these boss fights than all previous Super Sonic bossfights
@@Prime_Legend I could never understand that. Frontiers Super Sonic *actually* fights instead of headbutting thing till dead and is consistent with normal Sonic's gameplay. Best part is the Titans fight back. Most other ones just delay the inevitable (except for Layla Wa Layla from Secret Rings).
Ever since I first played Metal Gear Rising Vengeance, I said it was a Sonic game in spirit. And that that Sonic Team should make a Sonic game like it. I never thought it would actually happen in my life. Or ever. Yeah, the rest of the game is not like MGR at all. But the bosses. The bosses are even more intense than in that game. This is incredible!
Love the Black Knight and Sonic Battle callbacks this boss has. Also fun fact Sonic used Chaos Spears in his super form during his battle against Super Shadow in Sonic X.
When I saw this fight, my face with that music literally looked like this 😱 and it made me want my mouth to drop because it was so open. It's official Sonic is the first video game mascot to have such an epic battle.
Basically... yeah. During the wyvern fight, super sonic could create chains to bind his hands, and then a collar to trap his head. So safe to say, sonic does indeed have access to chaos powers (at least in his super form anyway) because the kind of thing that he can create with his super cyloop, he can't in his normal form, which makes sense, he has used the chaos emeralds for years by now, so he does have some idea of their power and how he can use it to his advantage.
@@erickbrites642 Sonic has access to chaos powers in his base too, he used Chaos Control with a fake emerald in SA2 and used it multiple times to time travel in 06.
@@Prime_Legend Chaos Control in its teleportation and time dilation forms seems to be the only Chaos ability Sonic can use reliably in his base form, but it makes sense he'd have access to a wider range of them when Super. Including Chaos Spear. He learned Chaos Control from observing Shadow in the first place, who says he can't do it again?
The fact that this Titan is called Knight, I’m pretty fucking convinced that this Titan is actually a subtle nod to Sonic and the Black Knight. And I think Sonic taking the sword from Knight is also symbolic of Sonic lifting Caliburn off of the ground.
Makes Sonic Mania's final battle even funnier when you think about it. You have Super Sonic who is, as you can see here, VERY powerful, fighting the Phantom King, an already powerful mech who is now juiced up with the power of the Phantom Ruby, to the point that he is one of the few entities who can outright HURT Super Sonic. And then you have Eggman in his damaged Egg Mobile fighting like a toddler. (To be fair, if you wait long enough, Eggman can use an attack who will hurt Sonic too, so there's that)
Sometimes I forget how crazy strong Super Sonic is. In the old games his purpose was to give invulnerability and a speed boost to Sonic, and all he did was flying through every enemy; Frontiers really did a good job showing the true power of the chaos emeralds. I also think that the fight could have finished in 2 hits: Super Sonic could have punched Knight really hard (like it's shown in the battle) and then used his sword to cut him in half; Super Sonic was probably having fun before getting to the end of the battle
Nah i feel like the Titans pose a pretty solid challenge towards Super Sonic. This fight was definitely favoured towards Sonic but to say he didn't have to work for it would be an overstatement. He had to destroy those huge ass shields and beat down Knight before he could just finish it off.
Remember, Knight's shield is impervious even to Super Sonic's attacks. Sonic had to whittle down Knight's energy and make it unable to use its shield, so that he could deliver the finishing blow.
@@kal0mari To be fair, Super Sonic has been able to take on vastly more powerful enemies than the Titans before (like Solaris and Time Eater) albeit with assistance. It just doesn't make sense for Super Sonic to have a genuine struggle against the Titans unless he's kinda just messing around (which would make sense, we never see him get any semblance of fatigue in these fights, just struggle against the Titan's physical strength, though he ultimately outmuscles them).

Even their ground cannons were said to be able to rival the eclipse cannon in terms of power. And the Titans were built to defeat an entity that can tank those blasts like nothing. End itself said that the Ancients could bend time and space and they used up everything they had just to seal it in another reality

The bosses in this game have finally helped reveal how strong super sonic is. I hope this continues in the future for sonic games, and maybe even make it so super sonic can take damage during these battles rather than it being a time limit. It could seriously add a challenge to the bossed
Scary thing about all of the Titan fights... Sonic is fighting them for fun. Sonic proves at the end of every fight that he could have put them down at any moment. Scary when you think about how powerful Super Sonic, Super Shadow, Super Silver, Blazing Blaze, and (if Sega ever makes them Canon again) Super Knuckles and Super Tails are.
True. He's barely breaking a sweat and the ending of the fight proves that as he charged up some more energy before uppercutting Knight, implying that he's hardly tapping into his full power.
@@NeonStudios763 Eh...they aren't underused per say. In the main (Modern) game canon, only Super Sonic, Shadow, Silver, and Blazing Blaze are canon. It was confirmed long ago that: "Only Male Hedgehogs and Blaze (via the Sol Emeralds) can attain a super form." - Takashi Iizuka / Ian Flynn I listed them both because they both have atested and sworn to this rule. (So Sega made it and after years of backlash probably now is having 2nd thoughts.) HOWEVER... This rule might be FINALLY be getting walked back (it was a stupid rule) as Super Amy was added in Sonic Origins Plus and Sega considers the "Classic" Series to be it's own thing/timeline/canon. However, we'll have to see if the "Modern" series/timeline is free of that stupid rule.

Opinion probably doesn't hold much weight since I've been blind for six years but sonic was part of my childhood before going blind. It sounds like as the chorus was about your loop back to the first verse he time the finisher and it just immediately kicked into the finale or climax of the song. Just going off of what I'm hearing also voiceover a feature that allows blind able to use iPhones and iPads dictation how blind person can speak their comments into a text box typos are plenty though
I just defeated the Knight boss yesterday (on my Switch copy of Frontiers), and like all of the titan bosses before Knight---this fight was absolutely surreal in the greatest way possible. The Knight's use of its shield, especially with his dynamic, intimidating poses, greatly reminds me of the Egg Emperor from Sonic Heroes (loved the atmosphere of that boss). Knight is a total menace, and I actually needed about 2-3 attempts to defeat it. (My 1st and only Super Sonic death, so far, was at the clutches of this boss.) Finally, it's quite impressive that SEGA/Sonic Team were able to maintain such high intensity in Frontiers' boss battles, while creating an involved and engaging experience at the same time. Great job from both the developers and the creator of this video! Amazing things are surely here.

I think it’s more badass that he silently fucks up the enemy by not even acknowledging them. He’s breaking them down without words. They become more desperate as the fight goes on realizing they can’t beat him.
I like him quietly regulating this boss. More badass that way. He already talks enough in his modern incarnations. This reminds me of back when he was more quiet and all about action.
This game single-handedly made Super Sonic the GOAT again. Not only did they make him look like a total badass, he’s honestly extremely ruthless to top it off, this guy wants to save his freaking friends.
I always thought that the AI controlling Knight likely realized that Super Sonic had a time limit and the second phase was it trying to distract him using the shield till the transformation ended while constantly moving but didn't compute thst Sonic could parry the shield with that much force (more just thought Sonic would just alter its direction like before)
Out of all the Titan bosses this one felt the most personal 😂 sonic real life said "fuck all the bullshit you’re holding TAILS hostage, that’s my homie! My ride or die! Nah you catchin the fade!"

Man, more people really ought to know about the Cyloop interactions against the Titans. They are so awesome.
It really sucks you need to cyloop the titan's WHOLE BODY to do it.
You can do that with giganto, knight and supreme, but it's really hard to keep track the beginning of the loop.
Quick cyloop solves that by only looping the Titan's neck.
This enables wyvern to be cyclooped...
And shows the most awesome cyloop animation in the game!!!

The fact that he could do it or you didn’t know you could cyloop the bosses? From what I can tell those were Chaos Spears an ability that only Shadow both in and out of his super form could do until now and even then these were far greater than anything that Shadow did with them it’s pretty awesome
@@dayvonlouis5187 Yep, those do share a resemblance with Shadow's Chaos Spear but I hadn't made a connection until now. I never saw Sonic use that technique until Frontiers, but I guess it makes sense for him to be able to pull it off since he has been shown to use Chaos Control in the past. However, my comment was actually referring to being able to cyloop the bosses during gameplay.
So I'm gonna put this into perspective for people. I grew up visually impaired but I could still see sonic adventure two battle was the very first video game ever beat around 5/6. I've been blind for a total of six years all the way back in 2018 and listening to this boss and just hearing what is going on through the sound design and the music. Let's just say thanks to just the Internet as well as other things the fact I can enjoy this amazing display without any visual reference is incredible TLDR sonic music is so anime meme metal gear whatever that the blind can understand it without any visual reference
I know how you feel here. I’ve been blind for a long time, I was unable to enjoy the visual aspects of some of the games I learned to love. This just shows how important music and sound design is. Sometimes, more than graphics.

That's from the cyloop skill. For the first and last titan its a hurricane that lifts them up into the air. For the 2nd boss it chains up his arms and head.

This game made Super Sonic much more powerful because he was given a lot more moves. A problem I had with Super Sonic boss fights in previous games is that he felt pretty basic and flat. All he did was fly and boost and that was it. This game fixes that problem for me
agreed, that's why I get puzzled when nostalgic fans say Frontiers Super Sonic fights are glorified cutscenes. There's more gameplay mechanics and freedom in these boss fights than all previous Super Sonic bossfights

@@Prime_Legend I could never understand that. Frontiers Super Sonic *actually* fights instead of headbutting thing till dead and is consistent with normal Sonic's gameplay. Best part is the Titans fight back. Most other ones just delay the inevitable (except for Layla Wa Layla from Secret Rings).

Basically... yeah. During the wyvern fight, super sonic could create chains to bind his hands, and then a collar to trap his head.
So safe to say, sonic does indeed have access to chaos powers (at least in his super form anyway) because the kind of thing that he can create with his super cyloop, he can't in his normal form, which makes sense, he has used the chaos emeralds for years by now, so he does have some idea of their power and how he can use it to his advantage.
@@erickbrites642 Sonic has access to chaos powers in his base too, he used Chaos Control with a fake emerald in SA2 and used it multiple times to time travel in 06.

The fact that this Titan is called Knight, I’m pretty fucking convinced that this Titan is actually a subtle nod to Sonic and the Black Knight. And I think Sonic taking the sword from Knight is also symbolic of Sonic lifting Caliburn off of the ground.

Makes Sonic Mania's final battle even funnier when you think about it. You have Super Sonic who is, as you can see here, VERY powerful, fighting the Phantom King, an already powerful mech who is now juiced up with the power of the Phantom Ruby, to the point that he is one of the few entities who can outright HURT Super Sonic.
And then you have Eggman in his damaged Egg Mobile fighting like a toddler.
(To be fair, if you wait long enough, Eggman can use an attack who will hurt Sonic too, so there's that)

In the old games his purpose was to give invulnerability and a speed boost to Sonic, and all he did was flying through every enemy;
Frontiers really did a good job showing the true power of the chaos emeralds.
I also think that the fight could have finished in 2 hits: Super Sonic could have punched Knight really hard (like it's shown in the battle) and then used his sword to cut him in half;
Super Sonic was probably having fun before getting to the end of the battle

Nah i feel like the Titans pose a pretty solid challenge towards Super Sonic. This fight was definitely favoured towards Sonic but to say he didn't have to work for it would be an overstatement. He had to destroy those huge ass shields and beat down Knight before he could just finish it off.
Remember, Knight's shield is impervious even to Super Sonic's attacks. Sonic had to whittle down Knight's energy and make it unable to use its shield, so that he could deliver the finishing blow.
@@kal0mari To be fair, Super Sonic has been able to take on vastly more powerful enemies than the Titans before (like Solaris and Time Eater) albeit with assistance. It just doesn't make sense for Super Sonic to have a genuine struggle against the Titans unless he's kinda just messing around (which would make sense, we never see him get any semblance of fatigue in these fights, just struggle against the Titan's physical strength, though he ultimately outmuscles them).

Even their ground cannons were said to be able to rival the eclipse cannon in terms of power. And the Titans were built to defeat an entity that can tank those blasts like nothing. End itself said that the Ancients could bend time and space and they used up everything they had just to seal it in another reality

The bosses in this game have finally helped reveal how strong super sonic is. I hope this continues in the future for sonic games, and maybe even make it so super sonic can take damage during these battles rather than it being a time limit. It could seriously add a challenge to the bossed

Scary when you think about how powerful Super Sonic, Super Shadow, Super Silver, Blazing Blaze, and (if Sega ever makes them Canon again) Super Knuckles and Super Tails are.
True. He's barely breaking a sweat and the ending of the fight proves that as he charged up some more energy before uppercutting Knight, implying that he's hardly tapping into his full power.

In the main (Modern) game canon, only Super Sonic, Shadow, Silver, and Blazing Blaze are canon.
It was confirmed long ago that:
"Only Male Hedgehogs and Blaze (via the Sol Emeralds) can attain a super form."
- Takashi Iizuka / Ian Flynn
I listed them both because they both have atested and sworn to this rule.
(So Sega made it and after years of backlash probably now is having 2nd thoughts.)
HOWEVER...
This rule might be FINALLY be getting walked back (it was a stupid rule) as Super Amy was added in Sonic Origins Plus and Sega considers the "Classic" Series to be it's own thing/timeline/canon.
However, we'll have to see if the "Modern" series/timeline is free of that stupid rule.

Opinion probably doesn't hold much weight since I've been blind for six years but sonic was part of my childhood before going blind. It sounds like as the chorus was about your loop back to the first verse he time the finisher and it just immediately kicked into the finale or climax of the song. Just going off of what I'm hearing also voiceover a feature that allows blind able to use iPhones and iPads dictation how blind person can speak their comments into a text box typos are plenty though
I just defeated the Knight boss yesterday (on my Switch copy of Frontiers), and like all of the titan bosses before Knight---this fight was absolutely surreal in the greatest way possible.
The Knight's use of its shield, especially with his dynamic, intimidating poses, greatly reminds me of the Egg Emperor from Sonic Heroes (loved the atmosphere of that boss).
Knight is a total menace, and I actually needed about 2-3 attempts to defeat it. (My 1st and only Super Sonic death, so far, was at the clutches of this boss.)
Finally, it's quite impressive that SEGA/Sonic Team were able to maintain such high intensity in Frontiers' boss battles, while creating an involved and engaging experience at the same time.
Great job from both the developers and the creator of this video! Amazing things are surely here.

I think it’s more badass that he silently fucks up the enemy by not even acknowledging them. He’s breaking them down without words. They become more desperate as the fight goes on realizing they can’t beat him.
I like him quietly regulating this boss. More badass that way. He already talks enough in his modern incarnations. This reminds me of back when he was more quiet and all about action.

I always thought that the AI controlling Knight likely realized that Super Sonic had a time limit and the second phase was it trying to distract him using the shield till the transformation ended while constantly moving but didn't compute thst Sonic could parry the shield with that much force (more just thought Sonic would just alter its direction like before)
