Chicagoland transit heads push back on proposal to combine agencies

  • In what was the first of six Illinois Senate Transportation Committee hearings across the state to discuss the future of public transit in Chicagoland, the leaders of the Chicago Transit Authority, Metra and Pace on Tuesday all pushed back on a proposal to merge into one entity.

    Wanna know why we losing money? Chicago still losing millions in lost revenue for privatizing the Skyway, the Parking Meters and I think even photo enforced tickets??

    Combining them is the dumbest idea ever. If they do that, they'll raise the fare and GUESS WHAT, NOTHING will change!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

      Public transit is not supposed to be about making a profit. Transit is supposed to help move people from 1 location to another without using a car.
      I use the metra and cta in Chicago to get around which I find fun, but the problem is that you have to pay them individually and that can be really expensive, especially for people who are living with minimum wage employment.
      If they did combine their agencies together, expand their lines, and make the prices reasonable, they will most likely experience a slight rise in rider ship.
      But based on the response of the CEO's, they're definitely to reserved to commit to this idea.
