Type one: This us beautiful. I love his voice. Laughing at the "mhm" and all the "ooh-ooh"s
Type two: you can just hear the pain in his voice! It's so sad. Plus the song is about a sad thing and what happened to the singer is sad as well. So beautiful. He had such a great voice.

I don't know a lot about musical production, but I want to share all the fx that I identified in the take,
so we can make a conclusion, and hopefully produce better vocals by ourselves!
I could be wrong, so correct me if you think someting else. This way, we can make a contribution to all the people who read this.
(Don't really know the order of the different fx, so this list isn't in a specific order)
Normal lead vocals:
- Compressor: I believe it is compressed, only to control the dinamycs, so it's not a really heavy compressor. It has a fast attack, so there's not a lot of punch on it. in terms of release, it is not that fast, but also not that slow, just enough to make the take sound linear. this way it sounds smooth and fluid.
- EQ: Almost for sure it is equalized. I coudn't really tell wich frecuencies are emphatized, and wich ones are attenuated, but for our own purposes, the only thing i can say is that you just gotta eq what's better for your take. There's no particular ways to eq a voice, if it sounds good, it's ok.
- Deesser (not really sure how to write that haha): i think it is an agressive deesser, those S's sound really processed.
this also depens on the vocal take, how close the singer is to the mic, what language does the singer sings, etc.
- Slapback delay: it's a really short and soft mixed delay, that just gives a musical enviroment, making you feel that the singer is in some kind of room, instead of singing 8 inches away from you haha. (Maybe it's a really small reverb, idk. But they're essentialy the same.)
(not sure about if it has some kind of stereo enhacer, or a soft chorus, like in Trench vocals, but maybe)
When he ephatises some parts, like "....your own skin, ON THE FLOOR..."
(it is a doubled take)
I think those are the same fx I said before, plus:
- Another delay: It's a larger delay than the slapback, and it is used just for decoring the take.
- Reverb: there's a large reverb that makes you think that the singer magicaly moved to a gymnasium haha.
the same thing for the chorus take, except from the delay, it's not there anymore.
When he screms, it's also the same thing, but with a little bit of harmonic saturation, not that much, it's just for making the scream more agressive.
that's all i could listen to. I'm not really good at this, and it's a filtered vocal (really good, but not as good as the original)
so it's hard to tell something else for me.

What about autotune? Surely there's some autotune but it's very subtle and unnoticable. Correct me if I'm wrong

@Toomuchdietcoke Auto tune is noticeable, it's an effect. You guys mean pitch correction, that's not supposed to be audible, and was definitely used on this track 😀
yeah there’s for sure Pitch Correction, cause even the most perfect singer is going to need pitch correction in music production, mostly cause microphones will always pick up the slightest imperfections lol
Playing the original song right after the "shh" at 0:41 fits pretty cool
