A few months ago, Good Trouble got together to record a new single. Here's our process from start to finish, figuring out the arrangement, solos, and overdubs for the record. We've been playing this one live for a while now, so we we're all really excited to put it to tape and be able to share it with everyone.

Every time I see Rhett's basement studio I become just a shade more green with envy. What a rad space.
It's so nice to see the musicians listen to the drummer's opinions.
Amen to that, brother!🤘🤘
They listened, but that was about it lol
Amazing song! Great to see the band’s progression as a group and the process of making a song a song. Can’t wait to hear the covers too!
Really cool putting this out there in such a raw format. Love hearing you slowly work out that ending part and catching the convos on arrangement. The mutual respect was so apparent. Nice work y’all! 🤘
Always great to see and hear the creative process and the band working together! The studio looks great! Song came out amazing!
Man I sure hope you have flood insurance.
Man, as someone whose lost everything they owned in a flood, I feel this comment
@@Doctor-Shoebill so sorry to hear that....terrible.
I thought about that as well
Second that. Shit got all ruined once.
@@Smart-Alex 😢
Bud, happyto see the studio going strong! I know you guys went through so much building it. Awesome!
Really enjoyed this and awesome to hear how this song steered into a very improved direction torwards the end, with the new bridge and all. Nice work!
Those textures and layers really give it a classic vibe and open sound - like something from the '60s / '70s!
Thanks guys, fun to see you work together..! 😀. All the best forward! 🤗
You guys have really done it when you can turn your craft into a profession, it always takes work and passion as well
Love that song ❤ would be great to have it on vinyl. Thanks for giving insights in the process!
Love this tune man. Great to see the process as well. Cheers.
love the way how it’s created and recorded. I love those video’s!
What you have is a dream life. Im really happy for you dude. You are a inspiration.
SO. MUCH. YES. Even more of this and even more in depth!!! This is the content I'm looking for!!! epic song, epic recording...TEACH ME!!!
You guys are awesome!! Love your tone rhett!!
Love the studio! What an effort... shows the love for your craft!
Wow! Amazing seeing you work in the studio, what an effort for this video! 🔥
I like this song quite a lot, it sounds ''alternative'' in a trippy way. Like '90s indie rock. A mix of jangly picked parts and slightly noisy/shoegazy ones.
the way the drums and bass are locked is a beautiful thing
That was awesome! Really enjoyed the video and final recording.
These band vlog things are going to be great content. It's gonna be fun.
Id be stoked for more videos like this
More videos like this please! Thank you!
Just listened to whole song, great tune. Love the start, great fade out.
thanks for sharing this with us! amazing!
Wonderful, love this type of video which showcase your talent as arranging your songs and teh choice you made very instructive for band like us who want to devellop more compositions
I like the way Ian leaves out the kick drum on the beat for that chunking part when the bass guitar also lays out.
Man, loved the Khruangbin vibe in that intro song. Amazing !!
I’m trying to build a barebones “studio” at home, you and rick are an inspiration
My favorite song from the tour vlogs!
The cool rugs complete the righteous vibes…..oh, and I love the singers voice
I dig it.
🇬🇧 Oasis & early Coldplay vibes to that new guitar part! Love it!
Great vid, you MAKE recording look easy lol. Always a pleasure watching your vid bro.
I really like that! Good on ya, guys!
Cool. You guys are creating art, it’s good to see.
Happy for you, current culmination of a dream. I like Noah's voice, but I'd love to hear it more within the context of that opening jam. Nuclear grade pipes need something rich to lay waste to.
MOOD ftw!! Great jam :)
Very good, guys! Nice work❤
That guitar idea around 4.50 minutes into the video sounds great to my ears!!
Great band, a true unit: love it!
Man, those vocals always are so powerfull! This man can really sing! Shivers!
🍀
(BTW: if you’re comming back to Europe (or The Netherlands) to play gigs or record and Philip doesn’t want or can’t bring a (back-up) bass, he’s totally free to use one or more of my (Fender/ Peterbuilt) P-style, J-style or Guild Starfire basses. If he wants to set them up to his personal taste? No worries at all. They can handle anything. I can send photo’s / specifics if needed.)
Good luck guys!
🖖
Really cool, you ended up adding in what became my favorite part of the song! Funny that you had played the song for 6+months and only then did u add that in
Man please do thos for every song you guys write! I love this behind the scenes and collaboration! Thanks
Love the vibe of the basement man!
You cant make enough of this type of vids. Also it would be really interesting if you could document the process of making a video, from coming up with the topic/concept to the editing
bro way to innovate! the yellow outline vs white is dope.
Love your amp setup!! I'd really like to own that Marshall or Orange and that cab!!!
Sounding great my friend...
Soon as i hit the Powerball I'll have a badass amp setup
Every band I've ever been in never talks to each other like this -MUCH prefer the way you work together!😉
Sweet, thank you
damn, you published this right when I'm recording!
Sounds great and your studio is a massive inspiration! Parts of the solo remind me of the one you played in "Hell or High Water."
I was thinking the same thing!
that little bass guitar is cool!
good edit, Chris!
My biggest struggle in home recording is getting the drum software to do what I want it to do, and it never does. I usually get burned out after five hours trying to get a beat I like and quit. I have so many lost songs because of this.
Find a song you like and use the beat. Change the tempo and key. I do it all the time. You wouldn’t know. Also don’t be afraid of samples. One of my favorite songs uses a loop from Take Five. Also check out players you like. They often have drum samples available to use free of copyright after purchasing. Joey Waronker has definitely got me interested. .
Studying drummers and figuring out what you like when and why though is essential for a producer. As is hiring talented studio drummers who will have ideas you simply won’t have.
That was great!
So the studio that you were having a nightmare building is now a working studio. Enjoy 🙂Thanks for the great content 👍🏻
Very cool Rhett!!!
Killer song! Rhett you’re totally channeling some non slide Derick Trucks vibes!
Great solo there at the end man.. Know you're feeling when you let the tape roll lol!
Sound GoooooD!! Thanks for Sharing 🎸🎶 🎤🐦 🎶 💪 ✌
I was hoping to see more of the recording process versus a performance by the title. Js sounded great!
this is really excellent ⚡😎🔥👨🎤 appreciate you posting this Video ⚡🤘⚡
Desktop Mac, Garage Band, a Line 6 Pod Go, a few cables, you really don't need more then that. 10's of thousands in gear is just overkill. Pretty good song.
6:02 gave me chills. Gave me a good b-sides long jam feel
great job
Phil is a monster player.
Content you rarely see and i love it. Reminds of when i made music with my old group. ❤
More please...
As soon as I saw the Coles overheads on the drums I knew this shiz was for real.
Thank You Rhett
awesome! been working on my setup. not anything close to this though!
Sounds great! You will be able to do almost any kind of tracking in that studio
Loving the orange amps rhett
Great Rhett!
That was an enjoyable video, and cool vibe tune. Thanks for sharing. Just an observation from the outside in of musicians and friends making music, I wonder if in the ending discussion, the most collaborative and inclusive approach would have been to try both the suggested part drop out succession/chord ring, and the fade out options, listen to them both, then collectively feel how it shakes out. The change in the chug part came out nice and elegant. Word.
2nd to last step: Fall in love with your creation, convinced it's a hit, you convince yourself people will say it's the best thing they heard since the 70's, get jazzed! Final Step: Fall into deep depression as nothing happens, your sonic masterpiece is completely irrelevant.
Pleaseeee post live studio videos. I’d love to hear good trouble that way
This is a fucking fantastic video - Nice job mate!
A real drum kit? NOW you're talkin!👍🤘✌
This was awesome to watch holy shit!
Awesome video more like this
Step by step:
1. Spend years of trial and mostly error
2. Accumulate mass amounts of gear
3. Find several unicorns (people of minds, like tastes, like goals, with their own gear that have lives that allow getting together regularly)
4. Write songs that sound good and have meaning
No sweat hahaha
See? Recording is easy.
One Mac, Garage Band, a guitar, it is all you need, anymore is excess.
Yeah Boi!?!?! 🙌
Is the studio finished? I think I missed that video, can we get a tour of the space please? Cheers!
This is the most subtle click track I've heard thats still audible! :D
Always love to see Rhett playing his ugly Novo 😂
(j/k on calling it ugly, just payback for all the blue guitar shade)
really love this video. the battle of bleeding mics. or does it all go through in ears? well, no you mentioned the 4x12. guessing the shape of room helps a lot. angles and stuff...
Sir Paul would be proud.
Love the song and look at the studio. Got my first Novo coming this month and have to ask: what’s that strap on your Serus J? Really cool.
Is Noah playing through the Tone King? Niiiice
Nice! Any chance you could ever do a video about the optimal recording/practice space setup or at least about the setup you're doing? Curious if those 4x12 are pushing air whilst you're recording or is there a loadbox sending signal to your studio mixer and into your earphones?
😊
looks like a band movie.
sounds great. cool idea about a series of these videos. @RhettShull What Delay was that in the Helix ?? Been trying to make them oscillate with not much success. the Pod XT had an analog delay model that was beautiful for those sounds.
I still think the band should be called just 'Good Trouble' as you yourself referred to it as.
Being in a band is all about compromise. It was nice to see/hear you guys acknowledge the drop out one by one idea, give it a try, and ultimately go with the vamp. You could tell that's what you wanted to do from the beginning but you were open to others ideas. Nice. I would suggest though to try, even for one song or even just a given day, to not play with a click. Get rid of the grid and just listen to each other like the bands that you grew up to did.
And look, after doing this for 30+ years, have fun man, you smiled once and that was at the end where you weren't exactly excited about your performance. Don't be so serious, it's called "playing" in a band for a reason brother.
Cheers Rhett.
Cool video and cool track @RhettShull, I had the exact same amp (Orange Ad30 single channel) few years ago, and I miss it. Curious how you run it (settings), in the studio it can probably cover a lot of ground, but live, since it's a single channel, no fx loop, and no crazy headroom, I found I was sometimes fighting with it a bit
Should do a vamp out with the just the drums and then all come back in like The Beatles!
Hey Rhett what is that other Orange Amp you have that isn’t the AD30? I tried to identify it in the Soldano video.
Awesome stuff! Please get some stabilization on that vlogging camera - we're getting sea sick here! haha 🫨 Greetings from Denmark
